I made my prediction on P&B last night. Accies to beat Hibs again in the Play Off final.
  2. At least we know where all the Well Bois were on Saturday - in hiding!

With goal difference we basically have a 5 point lead and a game in hand against Kilmarnock. Could do with Aberdeen, Celtic and St. Johnstone all winning tonight though!

Don't think 35/36 points will do it this season. 40 points keeps you safe three quarters of the time but doesn't guarentee it. Think we should be looking to put another 10 points on the board, minimum. The highest points total for 11th is 43 points I think and that was the only time it's been above 41 points. It will be interesting to see if Dundee Utd can keep up their revival, if they do they could take valuable points away from the other bottom 6 teams.
  5. This season Louis Moult scored in the 90th minute to get us a draw against Ross County. Also scored in the 87th minute away to Kilmarnock for the win and Scott McDonald scored in the 90th minute to take the League Cup match against Morton to Extra Time. Also another couple of late goals this season that weren't as crucial so it's not just late goals in the against column.

I don't think there is room for "massive improvement". We can be better than we have been but we've come through a period where the bigger city clubs were in disarray and that period looks like it's over now and everything is returning to 'normal'. Aberdeen and Hearts look miles ahead of any provincial club this season and certainly Rangers and perhaps Hibs will be in the top league again next season and you'd have to imagine they will be Top 6 sides. Right now we are 4 points behind the best of the provincial clubs and I don't really think there is much chance of us competing beyond that level, ie, with any city clubs in the near future with the exception of Dundee United. I grew up in the 80's and back then Motherwell finishing higher than 8th was eye popping. The year we won the cup we finished 6th in the league which was an amazing achievement in itself in an era of football when Aberdeen, Rangers, Celtic, Dundee, Dundee Utd, Hearts and Hibs basically had a hegemony in the top half of the league. I reckon we are going back to the days when gate money basically determines where you finish in the league - with the odd anomoly.
  7. Won't be there and I think this will be the first match there that I've missed since the last time we won. So I'm confident.
  8. It's going to be an interesting week. Full card on midweek, except for us, so the potential for a lot of gained or dropped points. Partick Thistle have three games in 6 days. Away matches against St. Johnstone and Hearts and then a home match against Aberdeen. Then we play Accies with the chance to open up a 5 point gap there.
  9. Accies haven't won at NDP for 10 games. Guess who it was they beat on the 19th September 2015!
  10. With just over 3,000 supporters even turning out for games these days the Well Society doesn't seem like it's on to a winner so people need to start asking themselves what happens next. There is a lot of money to be made in the business world from taking over failing businesses where the value of the assets of the company are more than the worth of the company itself. Hutchinson may be benevolent or predatory, I don't know, but there has to be some kind of Plan B as a contingency against the Well Society being unable to raise the money and as far as I know there isn't one except a "see you later, now pay up" from Hutchinson.
  11. Probably disappointed that we were winning and he had nothing else to complain about. Thought Louis Laing was a bit 'clunky' at right back today, better than Gary Miller though who had a shocker. In any case I think right back is one area where we should be shopping for come next season. Ben Hall has done well for me, Cadden is a bit rough round the edges (he reminds me a bit of Darren Smith) but I think it's definitely worth giving him game time to see how he progresses.
  12. This. Since McGhee took over Scott McDonald has been superb. Was at the centre of everything today, including defending when we had our ropey spell. Immense.
  13. Deserved the win. First half we were the better team and were chapping at the goal but just couldn't get the final touch. Definite penalty, only our 3rd of the season. Great pass from McDonald for the second and I thought Partick's heads went down and they looked well beaten at that point. Moult might have got the goals but I thought McDonald was immense today. Looked all very comfortable until Ripley threw in one and then we were on the back foot for a bit, but in truth Ripley didn't have much to do today, perhaps just as well!

If we won today, we'd only be 4 points short of last seasons final points tally with 10 matches to play. So that to me says we have definitely improved this season, regardless of league position.

Partick have been pretty tough to beat away from home. Two 0-0 draws away to Aberdeen and Inverness and a 0-1 defeat to Celtic. Before that they beat Dundee Utd and Kilmarnock, got a draw at Dundee and beat St. Johnstone. Pretty good record, of course if they get a result against us it will be because we are the worst team in the world. Actually I think Alan Archibald has done a tremendous job at Patrick as he's had to completely rebuild the team twice and kept them competitive.
  16. Here's another one since you like them so much. Since Mark McGhee took over we have taken 19 points from 16 matches, while Hamilton have taken 14 points from 17 matches.
  17. Accies have two wins from their last 20 league matches.
  18. Stats just seem to confirm that our greatest asset at the moment is a front two of Moult and McDonald. The team we play should be set up to suit this front two.

    Away Crowds

Geographically Motherwell is better placed than somewhere like Kilmarnock in terms of getting to other grounds. It's also close to the motorway and is a major rail hub.
  20. We have a bunch of games coming up that are very winnable in my opinion. If we can win two out of four I think that will put us in a relatively comfortable position after 30 matches. The play off place will probably go to the wire this season but I think as long as we can keep the psychological advantage of having 2 or 3 teams below us in those positions we should be OK in the long run.
  21. Everyone knows that the general principle for staff and players is "the more you do for Motherwell FC, the less you are respected by the support". He should consider the opprobrium a sort of badge of honour.
  22. Aberdeen have quite a small squad and Hearts are probably being run with strict financial overview by Ann Budge. Example - they brought in Souttar and Cowie in the transfer window and Billy King and Gomis went straight out on loan. Dundee Utd have brought in 'name' players like Kawashima, Riski, Sinama-Pongolle, Demel who will all be on decent money and they have one of the bigger squads in the first place.
  23. Catching them at a good time, no wins in 7 and St. Johnstone have gone from looking like dead certs for a top four place to potentially being dragged into the relegation zone. St. Johnstone have had a very, very good home record over the past couple of seasons but they've not had a win at McDiarmid since early November.
