  1. Im sure if you read match reports on every celtic or rangers game there is mistakes made on their players, lazy as it is, if you want quality buy a quality newspaper.

And Jamie Pollock is 17, nearly 18.

The comment about the journalist "being one of them so he has to be biased" is stupid. So motherwell fans can't admit celtic were the better team yesterday, simply because they support motherwell? I don't think so.

I think this thread is just about nit picking and having a moan, nothing wrong with that but it just makes you look slightly bitter.

  2. His old boy is his advisor AFAIK, and he advises Celtic. Being badly advised, even being pushed into a move to Celtic by the sounds of it.

    False, false. And false again.

He has an agent. And how could you possibly know what his Dad advises him? And pushed into a move to celtic? Does he not have a brain of his own to decide either way, nobody will push him to sign for either club, he isn't 5.

Maybe people should stop making up absolute shite.

  3. Been saying this for a while, snap em up and finally i can sleep that wee bit better now.

P.S. been having nightmares, mainly of Slanes face Ewwwwww, (Yeah think he doesnt want to sign - hes "celtic-minded anyway")

    LOL

Pathetic post. Maybe if he could walk he would sign.

  4. Yeah but is his father not wanting him to be a Celtic player, and what is his agent telling him?

Where shite like that comes from baffles me! And even if that wasn't absolutely made up, he's 17 not 7, the boy has a mind of his own.

  5. So possibly NOT false then.

tbf it has been posted several times previously and always along the lines of McGhee / the club having done the deal against the boys wishes.

I have no clue whether it's true or false.

Im not saying the deal wasn't done. Im saying, paul had NOTHING to do with it. IF it was done, it was motherwell who done it.

  6. cant see this posted anywhere else, but paul slane was a done deal to go to celtic at the start of this season, the only reason it fell through was that he got a taste of first team football here and at the last minute changed his mind. Thank god for Jim Gannon!!!

100% false. HE never had any inclination to go to celtic. If the deal was done, it was on motherwells part.

  7. From what I am led to believe, Slane, Saunders and maybe one or 2 more are receiving higher wages and bonuses than the other 19s players, wether that means they are on 1st team contracts or not I am not sure!!

    Or not !!

  8. There is actually. Paul Slane has been nurtured by Motherwell for 6/7 years. He has given us 3 games in return. If he doesn't see fit to sign a Contract extension and give us the MINIMUM 2 years of his time in the 1st team then he goes back into the U19s for another TWO years. Without first team exposure who is going to sign him?

Promising 17 year olds are highly sought after. 19 year olds that haven't kicked a ball are generally looked over.

Maybe if mwell treated him better last year he would already have.

And there is one year left of his contract.

  9. Good interview with Hammel in todays record:

Hammell backs Motherwell rookies to secure Europa League win

    Jul 16 2009 Neil Cameron

STEVIE Hammell walked into the Fir Park dressing room on the first day of pre-season training and wondered where everybody was. Half the team had been sold in the summer. Most of his mates were gone. They would even have struggled to hold a game of five-a-sides.

With no manager at the club after the departure of Mark McGhee and a European campaign just a few weeks away, Hammell would have been forgiven for fearing where exactly Motherwell were headed.

Then Jim Gannon arrived and his first action was to invite the young players to swap their away dressing room and join the senior players instead.

It was then Hammell felt Motherwell were in safe hands and had a bright future.

For the 27-year-old left-back can remember a time when he broke through the ranks at Fir Park just ahead of the likes of James McFadden and Stephen Pearson.

And the defender has been impressed by the latest crop of kids who shone brightly in the two Euro ties against Llanelli.

Hammell said: "The boys who've come in performed brilliantly.

"They h a v e n't looked out of place at all. Steven Saunders, Ross Forbes and Paul Slane were excellent for us at Llanelli.

"Young Slaney came with us last season for pre-season training, but for one reason or another he never got his chance.

"The new manager likes to give young players the opportunity to play. He will give them a chance and they certainly haven't let the gaffer down as they've been excellent up until now.

"They'll have a big part to play for us this season. Other players will hopefully be coming in, but if they continue to do well then they will be a big part of things.

"Slaney was one of our most creative players down in Wales and was probably a big difference between the way we performed in the first leg when we lost 1-0 and winning the return 3-0.

"We can't expect them to win games for us every week, but they have come in and are doing a job for us just now.

"We really need the youngsters to step up to the plate as when we reported back for pre-season the home dressing room was empty.

"There were only nine or 10 senior players there but some of the young lads have now joined us from the away dressing room which is where the youth players get changed.

"Every season there is always one or two who come through at Motherwell.

"This year we've more than that because as well as the guys I've mentioned there are a couple of young defenders, Shaun Hutchison and Jonathan Page, who are also impressing.

"It's up to the guys who have been here for a while to pass on advice to the younger players.

"The lads here aren't big-time Charlies so they take on board what you are saying to them.

"But you don't want to help them too much though in case they end up keeping us out the team!

"The fans here love seeing a young player coming through the ranks. You can feel them willing the younger players to come in and do well and hopefully they all continue to progress and can play a big part in our season."

Hammell, in his second spell at Fir Park following his two-year stint at Southend, could tell you everything about the SPL players he's faced over the years.

But he doesn't know a thing about tonight's Europa League opponents FK Flamurtari. Not one of their players rings a bell.

And that's just the way he likes it.

Hammell said: "I prefer going up against someone you know nothing about. You suss out your opponent yourself, you see what they are capable of and you take it from there.

"As a team, we have to find out as quickly as possibly on the night what they are like and then play our game and concentrate on the things the gaffer has been working on with us since he came in."

As a football club, Motherwell have much more on their mind than just European football.

With so much change going on over the summer, SPL survival must be their priority as Gannon builds his own team.

But that doesn't mean they don't want to hang around the Europa League for a few more rounds yet, especially as there are some big names such as Hamburg and Roma in the next draw.

Hammell said: "We definitely want to enjoy a good run in the Europa League. We are in it now so we want to go as far as possible.

"It's difficult to say how far we have to go in Europe before we face a top-quality side as we really don't know a thing about the team we are playing tonight.

"We don't know what standard of players they will have or what to expect from them at all.

"If we get through this round then we would have to progress beyond another two qualifying rounds to reach the group stage.

"If we could get that far then that would be brilliant but it's impossible to look that far ahead, especially as we don't know anything about Flamurtari."

  10. You'll never meet a nicer guy in football than Darren Smith. Never let being a footballer so young get to him unlike alot of the wee brats. I also think he is a decent player, hes still rough around the edges though which concerns me at his age.

What does it matter that he is a nice guy? He has very little ability IMO and Im talking about even in reserve games he doesn't look good enough. The fact he was in the stand in Llanelli and hasn't even travelled to albania says it all. Think he should look for a new club for his own good as much as anything. Good luck to him.

  11. I can agree with some of this mate but I'm not sure we can go about getting rid of players - who will take them!! We can;t just 'release' them so I'm going to suggest who stays in the Starting XI, the matchday squad. U19s for a bit longer and finally release if we can/keep in the reserves if we can't.

Fraser: We DO need another experienced (ish) 'keeper in to battle for the number 1, if nothing else it will bring the best out of Fraser, you don;t want a 'Keeper who knows he is starting every week even if he is off form. Starting XI / Matchday Squad

Saunders: Your argument for Murphy and Saunders contradict each other. Both are just wee boys who ARE NOT READY yet you are happy to play Saunders who is 'anorexic' but not Murphy for the same. A full back needs to be stronger than a forward like Murphy so if anyone is dropped for being too light (at the moment) it has to be Saunders. We need an experienced grown man of a RB to replace Quinn. U19s/Matchday Squad

Craigan: We need his experience around the squad, no doubt but aye, I wouldn't be adverse to a big fuck off centre half coming in too. Starting/Matchday Squad

Reynolds: If we bring in another CB then I think we have potentially one oif the best even Left Backs in the country in Marky. He is fast, can tackle out wide (is always caught out in the middle but his covering tackles are immense!) and can header better than Hammell. Marky for Left back!! Starting - but at Left Back!!

Hammell: Unless we get an offer in Hammell could be a decent enough cover for Left Back AND perhaps Left Mid. His days as a starter for Motherwell have to be over though if we want to change the same old same old pattern of play. MAtchday Squad

Murphy: Just a wee boy and doesn't seem to have the 'Wirey-ness' of previous wee boy successes like Faddy and Clarky. Not ready - U19's for another year and benched for a Saturday just in case. U19s/Matchday Squad

Lasley: Not good enough. Too slow, poor passing range, can't EVER shoot or score. He is ok in the tackle SOMETIMES but not sharp enough for Centre Mid, too slow for out wide, not big enough for Defensive Mid can't shoot or display any skill for Attacking mid. A MIDFIELDER?? Yet, I like him but it is do or die and he has to go as it would be a waste of a wage in the reserves. Offload/Reserves

Forbes/Slane: VERY impressed. Great on the ball both of them and should be in and out the starting XI this season. Not definate starters but ALL OVER the match day squad every week. Starting XI/ Matchday Squad

McGarry: I'll agree he offers very little. He is blowing oot his arse EVERY week. Offload IF someone will take him :DOffload/Reserves

O'Brien: I''ll disagree here. While he can be frustrating he DOES have some natural ability and if he can sort his crossing we have a player on our hands. We aren't exactly brimming with forward talent so it would be folly to let him go. Contract up next year anyway so he will do untill JG builds his own squad. Starting/Matchday Squad

Sutton: Again, the only Striker we have and he has two years left on a deal. IF we get another good forward in I have no doubt he will nick us 10-15 goals this season. He CAN score goals. He can't play on his own up front. Matchday Squad

Fitzy: Squad player for ANOTHER YEAR? I don't know, perhaps he does have it. The only problem no-one really knows his position. Offload/Reserves

DLS: Must be garbage if an out-and-out Forward couldn;t get on the park on Thursday night!! Game over Darren, which is ashame. Offload/Reserves

    So we NEED:

    Anyway needed:

    1 Keeper

2 Defenders- New Centre Half, and a new RIGHT BACK (Reynolds can play LB)

2 Midfielders - We have Jennings. We need a Klimpl replacement and a Left Mid.

2 Strikers- Basically we need to replace Clarky AND Porter/McCormack

That would be SEVEN signings and I can't see any more than that mate, certainly not the TEN you were suggesting, unfortunately! :whistling:

Agree with much of what your saying but Murphy is 20 next month. He was too old to play for U19's last season never mind this season.

  12. I actually had Slane in, the boy is a wee dickhead but a good player. Id still be tempted to go with McGarry just for experiences sake, i dont buy into the idea of playing youngsters in a game like this id much rather go with experince when trying to break down an 11 man defence. I would however be tempted to make changes early on if it was clear somebody like McGarry just wasn't at the races. Im not trying to defend McGarrys performance tonight, he was absolutely garbage but i do think he has something to offer if played up front in his natural position. Sutton looked like an absolute carthorse tonight but give him a good chance and he'll usually strike it cleanly and it ends up in the back of the net most of the time. I just cant see two youngsters having the same presence up front despite Suttons poor display tonight.

Do you know him, aye? Bet you've never even spoke to him.

  13. Sorry, but James McCarthy was born on November 12th 1990 in Glasgow.

What part of Ireland is Glasgow in again? I forget.

So you think where your born is what makes you? So if your born in London your english? If your born in Paris your French? Well I actually feel James McCarthy is Scottish. BUT many people don't have the belief; I know many people who have Italian heritage but were born in bread in the same Glasgow as James McCarhthy who class themselves as Italian.

Now, personally, I think McCarthy, Aiden McGeady, & Jim O'Brien are Scottish. BUT they don't. And this is the point Im making, it is not up to me, you or anybody else to judge what country they feel loyal to. And so when people take it upon themselves to shout abuse at them, Im saying it is because they can't accept these players have chose Ireland over Scotland. Whether I think they are right or not, I don't have the right to pick for them and so I should let them get on with the football.

I also think if it was Australia rather than Ireland they chose, their would be little or probably no criticisim.

  14. Anyone who pretends they boo McCarthy for his ability should admit it has nothing to do with it IMO. He is a good player but one who I definately don't think is such a stand out he would be booed if he didn't pull on an Ireland top instead of a Scotland one.

I think people who waste their time abusing wee boys because of their nationality are really just pathetic.

Your at a game of football, enjoy it & go home.

And if you do shout and ball at a 17 year old player, at least admit its because you can't accept what country he is from.

    Rant over.

  15. Will be good to see some of the younger players, as a lot of them have been in and around the first team squad but don't seem to get a chance. What about Paul Slane who McGhee was raving about at the start of the season? Or robert McHugh? Theres been a few others too.

Should be a good game, shame bout the pitch.

  16. Pish poor again. Starting with no wingers is causing problems and McGhee obviously doesn't have much faith in DS or Jim O'Brien. Jamie Murphy is a striker not a winger so playing him on the wing isn't going to get the best out of him either. Why does he continue to play so many players out of position?

The whole team could do with a boot up the arse.

Lets hope the tide truns and soon.
