I've been heartened to read some likeminded comments on here. I couldn't believe some of the dross some guy next to me in the East was giving each and every one of our players. Fair enough, you pay your money, you say what you want but it's quite simple - the team will play better with positive support. Save the booing for the opposition!

Some of these guys have just been doing it so long they don't know how else to behave, but that's no excuse. How can they possibly believe that abuse is going to make the players respond better?

Totally understand that post.

If a player is having a howler then fair enough, but there's no need to get on his back.

I can't undertand some folks reactions at times, even those I sit with.

On a seperate note, On Saturday I thought the ref had a good game for a change. Then some guy infront of me starts the pelters.

Some people just don't understand how football works I guess.

I always give refs pelters whenever they give something against us. Even if they are correct!

I think the simple answer is to encourage every player by cheering when they do something right and not saying anything when they do something wrong. They themselves will know it was wrong & if not, the coach should/will update them on this so that they can take it on board ala constructive criticism.

That way, we foster the positive environment in which we will see more young players come through the ranks and hopefully enhance themselves and the club/fans by contributing to us winning games!

We Scots are not big on positivity but it is the answer. It's difficult because there is a balance between being positive and being taken for a mug.

As far as Fitzy's concerned, we need to give him our backing. Nobody can play well under such hostile conditions. I would love it if FP was seen as a place where young players had the chance to flourish but it just ain't going to happen. I happen to think Fitzy is going to be a good player in time (think Paul Lambert) but he needs a chance.

On the being taken for a mug thing. That pitch is a disgrace. It was the single biggest factor in Saturdays game and we are paying money to watch games that are being dragged down to amateur level before a ball is kicked. We should give Fitzy and others a level playing field (literally) before getting on their backs.

The cup game at the weekend was the first game I've been at since the Nancy game as I've been out the country. The team didn't play particularly well, but the clear fact was that Fitzy was really poor. What gets me is, when he broke into the team, he picked up the ball and blitzed down the wing with it, he was confident and looked really promising.

Sadly, he did the exact same as Clarkson did after his first season and went massively backwards in my opinion. Clarkson came into life last season and the fans got off his back, probably for a combintion of reasons. Fitzy does some amount of running and puts in some effort. For that reason I wouldn't boo him or shout him down at a match.

But at the end of each run, lies a horrible touch, wrong pass, dragged badly out of position or woeful finishing. Folk on here always go on about this unseen job that he does for the team, yet no one really goes on to say what he adds to the team. We know he adds Hee Haw attacking wise and is as good as a player short when we're pushing forwards. And Lasley and Klimpl are there to break down play and help out the defence which they both do better than fitzpatrick. We only need one holding midfielder and Klimpl is that man, you seen the diffrence in the TEAM when D.Smith came on and added to the attack as well as tracking back.

This seems like a real attack on Fitzy, i will always support the team and the players at a match. I think he is a great squad player, a squad that is the better of having someone with his attitude. He needs to work on the basics of being able to control and pass a ball. For someone thats been getting a lot of first team football he was really, really poor at the weekend and still looks like a wee boy thats just been indroduced to the "Big" League. Unfortunately thats the impression I get more often than not after seeing Fitzy play. Hence I don't really get HOW he's a first team pick.

I look forward to being proven completely wrong with a MOTM performace against Hamilton (perhaps a goal). :)

have never really been a Fitzy fan, (even with his goal at easter road! almost killed me,choking on ma softmints while trying to celebrate! ) but while he gets a lot of criticism, and I confess ive done it myself at times, the double standards from some fans at Fir Park astounds me!

Some people need a reality check, were Motherwell for fucks sake, we always have and always will have players who give the ball away or fuck up and as frustrating as it is for us watching, dont you think its even worse for the guy on the pitch? they dont try to make mistakes. And imagine how much worse it is for Fitzy, knowing theres guys waiting with delight till he does something they can shout at him for, esp when other players get almost no criticism even tho they can be worse.

Im no happy clapper, and I will admit my emotions do sometimes get the better of me and il have a grumble when someone makes an arse of somthing ( i do prefer waiting and just being a moaning faced chunt on here instead of shouting at the game) but im an equal opportunity wanker, il moan about ANYONE who Im pissed off at, none of this picking favourites shite.

Away on a bit of a tangent there, but what im basically trying to say is I know players frustrate but lets stop going down this road of singling out a certain player, and if u do wana do that, try doing it on here or in the pub, not at the game,it does no1 any favours
