  1. Faddy called it one night on Sportscene when he said VAR is not the problem, it's the people operating it. We could have the best VAR system in the world but when people are using flawed judgement such as Bairs "handball" on Saturday, then it's a waste of time and money. Common sense and understanding of the game are sadly lacking.

Our refs have been abysmal for years and allowing them to sit in a studio looking at a TV screen just compounds the problem.

It's now time to get rid, save some money and acknowledge that our refs are just not up to the job which we knew anyway. Has it improved the game? Most definitely not, in fact it's made things worse so why bother.

Love this guy.  We all doubted him but his workrate could never be questioned.  Putting it out there but with Mika leaving did that actually help as he then got moved to a central position? Just curious

You make an excellent point. Mika would probably have attracted all the headlines but his departure opened up the opportunity for someone else and Theo has certainly taken that chance.

I think Kelly's problem is where would he go? I think he would struggle to be first choice elsewhere in SPL or down south.  On a big wage so if he didn't sign a new deal I wouldn't be too bothered but also if he did re-sign I wouldn't be upset either but I feel would need to be on reduced terms which I would not expect him to sign which I couldn't disagree with

I hope Kelly walks at the end of the season. He is a decent shot stopper, but that's it. He doesn't command his box so any high ball into our box causes problems. Any semi decent keeper is able to use their reach advantage to gather high balls but this is beyond Kelly.

Yes he may be a big presence around the club but if he's not competent at the basics then he shouldn't be playing. However seeing Kettlewells interview it looks like he will play Kelly against Aberdeen so the messages is clear, no matter how bad you play you'll remain in goals for our next game and beyond. I despair.

Don't really see your logic. Why not hope for a winnable home draw in the next round then face one of those Glasgow clubs in the semis or the final? Surely those are worth more to us financially.

What would you consider to be a winnable home draw? Just think Raith Rovers or Albion Rovers for example. After last night I wouldn't trust us against any level of opposition.

We are capable of delivering a poor performance against any team.

  5. No one seems to be mentioning Butcher so I will!  Thought he was awful all night. When the Morton player hit the bar Butcher tried to pull him back rather than get a challenge in. If VAR had been available who knows. He failed to block the shot at their second goal and did exactly the same again Alloa at Salmons goal.

He got booked tonight after a cynical challenge which summed up his evening.

Not sure what his best position is but it's not in defence.

I feel really sorry for Kelly and he's far from my favourite player

Kelly is one of our highest earners, if not the highest earner, and our captain. That brings certain expectations and responsibilities which he is unable to fulfill. He should be leading by example, not conceding poor goals and generally being ineffective .

If ever there was a time to drop him it's now.

Oh dear, These forums have gotten pretty sour tonight. I mean obviously its a stinker being put out the cup by a championship team and yes Liam Kelly did have a howler but we would have most likely drawn Celtic or Rangers in the next round anyway. Lets not start squabbling and throwing our toys out the pram. Our game on Tuesday clearly took its toll on some of our players fitness this evening and Morton were a well fought, Dirty team flying high.

The aim was to draw one of the Mould Firm in the next round especially away as this would have been a financial lifeline.

It's quite clear Kelly has lost confidence lately. If you think most keepers are better than him I'm sorry but that's unnecessary in my view

Very necessary in my view. How many goals has he cost us. Same last season against Raith Rovers. We need a competent keeper who can do the basics ie command your box and deal with crosses. Kelly can do neither.

The sooner kelly is gone the better and chucking them in for a new club the better, what he was attempting at the first goal is a mystery and his distribution is god awful.

He's out of contract at the end of the season and should only be offered a new one on much reduced terms. If he doesn't like it show him the door

We're the 4th highest scorers in the league right now. We've conceded the most goals in the league.

I'm no statto genius, but if I had money to spend on the team my first focus would be to address the goals conceded.

Now that we have replaced Spencer, we also need to be looking to replace Slattery.

Maybe then we can think about a striker, but I imagine Biereth, Obika and Bair are going to be ahead of him.

As for KVV, I'm also one of the people who think we cashed in at a great time and don't really want to see him back. Loved him last season, but the timing of his move was perfect.

The "next season" stats for all the strikers who have great seasons and move on make for poor reading. I won't repost them, but if you're interested, check out Coyne, Moult, Sutton etc. (and of course Kev himself) to see. I think Higdon is the only one that ever managed double figures the season after he moved on.

Of course there's a chance he might recapture some of his form, but Kev being Kev, there's as good a chance he reverts to his more typical form of 7 or 8 goals a season.

If we're looking for a loan, I'd rather we bring in another young Biereth type.

Totally agree. We're doing not too badly in terms of scoring goals but we can't stop conceding them so any money available should be spent on making us more difficult to score against.

The Daily Ranger reporting that we are interested in signings Dipo Akinyemi from Ayr United, Dundee also in the mix. A Premiership club was interested in signing him in January but bid was declined then.

I hope we do our homework and don't end up with another Conor Shields.

  12. The press don't have a clue who we're considering so print any old rubbish. We are good at keeping things highly confidential until an announcement is made but the press don't like being kept in the dark so print utter nonsense. I just laugh when I see some of the names mentioned because the press have proved time and again they invent stories to try to convince people they are in the know when they are in fact clueless.
