Players with that pedigree who have been playing consistently the past few years wouldn't be anywhere near Fir Park.

Looks like he's had some injury issues since a serious car crash when he was at Crystal Palace, and hasn't really kicked on since. I guess depending how the deal is structured it's a worthwhile gamble. Being as he was released by Morecambe after only being there for a few months I doubt he's come in on big wages.

He'll either look really good and get a move in January, or look rubbish and disappear in January. Either way, he's an extra body in the door.

As a Well fan in exile, I am now a season ticket holder at Charlton.

Soare started last season at the Valley and was welcomed by a similar response. There’s no doubt the bloke has a great pedigree.

The problem is that he has never truly recovered from the car smash in 2016 that nearly crippled him.

Come January, he was let go and his squad role was taken by Matt Penney.

I really want it to work out for him at Motherwell.

It’s just a sad reflection of Scottish society to be honest, not just our support. There’s too much fear and cowing of Celtic and obsession of Rangers and far too much credence is given to both of them.

Now that is the first thing you’ve said in a while that I can agree with.

You do still need to chill a bit though man. No point getting so vexed about sh1t that’s outside of your span of control.

Same goes for all those who are seemingly unhappy with the new away kit.

Buy it. Don’t buy it. That is our (fans) span of control.

Leave all the hating to those muppets who don’t have the intelligence to see beyond a bigoted herd mentality.

We all chose Motherwell because we are better than that !!!

  3. As it goes, I am not a fan of the new away shirt. The home one is lovely but the sublimated Amber and white sash/diagonal band and claret collar on this one just feels a bit cheap like a Turkish holiday knock off cheap.

Common sense like that will never catch on with some people in this part of the world I'm afraid.

I've said this before but there are too many people, not just in our support, who's hatred and obsession with Rangers overrides their passion and love for the club they support and it's pathetic. The irony is that it's usually these types of people who shout longest and loudest about how much they dislike Rangers and want their club to be nothing like them, free of any connection with them, yet at the same time they can't help themselves but bring Rangers info the equation no matter what. Some of the responses on here and on social media to the away kit reveal are the prime example of that. We release a kit which is claret with an amber diagonal band, not a sash, and you get some wahoos bubbling about how it somehow makes us have a connection to the OO/Rangers. That's one of if not the first things they think of when seeing a new Motherwell kit for the first time. As I said, absolutely pathetic.

You'd think we'd brought out a black kit with two diagonal orange bands that meet in the middle complete with white gloves and a bowler hat.

I don’t really visit this forum very often anymore and only been back on in recent weeks. I must say, you do come across as rather over opinionated and my visualisation is of an angry wee man with a big red face.

    Take a chill pill pal.

That has been the case with most of the Macron kits I’ve found but in fairness they are designed for professional athletes with toned physiques as opposed your average 30s/40s/50s y/o punter.

The last few years I’ve found opting for the next size up from what I usually take has helped a bit in that regard.

I coach youth football at a club who has Macron from the first team right through to U7s and even their training gear is really unforgiving. For all shirts, I’m an Adidas and Nike size M and an XL in Macron.

The only the trouble is that unless I tuck the shirt in, all I need is a night cap and I’m wee Willy winky 😜

So with only five games left of us having to endure this seasons ridiculously bad home kit and with all kits now at half price, it’s safe to assume that we will be bringing a new kit out in the summer.

Obviously everyone has their own views on what our home kit should be like but for me we should be keeping it simple. A mostly Amber shirt with a claret band and trimmings and mostly amber shorts and both colours represented on the socks. I don’t see how that is difficult, no nonsense, no ‘out the box and different’ just go with our unique and vintage home colours and deliver us a proper Motherwell FC home kit.

I suspect we may well see a mostly Claret away kit next season as it’s been a few years since we’ve had that and as long as it’s done right then I wouldn’t be against that, as long as we only wore it when there was an obvious colour clash and not in every away game like we did with the 18/19 version.

    What’s everyone’s views?

See, it’s all about taste. I’m not a fan of your favourite recent kit  (the 17/18 ”Kipre”) but I really really like this seasons kit and the one before it. The only thing I don’t like about this years is the slim and unflattering fit on a middle age man with bit of middle aged podge. Sadly,  this is a recurring Macron issue.

I don’t subscribe to the “it must be a whole hoop” or “white shorts are our history” arguments. My fan history (from early/mid 80s) is of some really good experimentation (with the obvious exception of the Jester of course). With our colours being unique to us, that is how it should be.

Jokes are funny. This doesn't even rise to the level of pun.

It's like someone has failed a word assocation test for "kettle" but keeps repeating it.

Nobody felt the need to write "ham" every 4 words when Hammell was in charge, but "kettle" seems to have induced some sort of mass psychotic event.

Maybe Derren Brown is recording a domestic appliance special I'm not aware of, otherwise I can only assume Russell Hobbs has paid some influencers to start posting on football sites.

I'd rather watch Mrs Brown's Boys Kettle Special episode than see more random kettles on here.

This is a serious matter that deserves serious consideration.

You might be on to something here.

My 11 year old has been convinced since Hammell walked that Kettlewell would become the new manager because he has WELL in his surname

Others will correct me if I'm totally wrong, but I think Stevie Hammell was asked at the recent AGM if he'd want or benefit from an experienced manager/consultant/adviser to help him out and he rejected that out of hand. He also chose Brian Kerr to be his no 2. As far as I know this was Hammell's own choice.

Then Hammell is more of a fool than thought he was

  9. Kettlewell strikes me as a very sensible chap who perhaps is tainted by a difficult spell in a difficult job.

His next role is critical to his career longevity and it may suit him to not be “formally interviewed” for the role. Becoming the no2 and groomed successor to someone like McCann, who has lots of experience at both League 1 and Championship level, would be very credible.

If we stay up, the experienced no1 stays on long enough to raise his profile enough to launch on to a better gig elsewhere and Kettlewell steps up.

If we go down, Kettlewell steps up to lead the campaign to escape the Championship.

Either way, he is afforded the protection and tutorage that Hamill never received

  10. Sorry, I reckon I’ve missed it. How do we know that Ross is out of the running? Has he stepped away or has he been discounted?

McCann would be a decent appointment. He’s got a fairly decent record at Doncaster, kept a poor Hull side in the Championship with no budget and it’s only been a disappointing second spell at Peterborough that’s having him anywhere near a Motherwell shortlist.

  11. The club need to be brave with this appointment and be prepared to spend some wedge on someone (even if til the end of the season) who has some form of pedigree.

Lots of talk of wanting a hard bastard leader who can command respect and kick some arse. I just don’t see us being able to find that in Scotland.

When considering this brief, Lambert is the best of the names I’ve seen mentioned. It is worth noting that he completely lost the dressing room and the plot in general at Ipswich.

Ross has only really seen success at St Mirren. He had a large budget at Sunderland and had to settle for play offs as his best chance of getting out of League 1.

He failed, largely because he was outsmarted and outfought by his opponent and his squad that Wembley final day.

His opponent that day was Lee Bowyer. Bowyer has pedigree as a player and has a proven ability to get a lot out of not very much. He is currently out of work and would be a coup akin to the first Mark McGhee appointment back in the day.

He doesn’t need the money but he’s the sort of bloke that could be sold a challenge

Rumour mill suggesting we have offered £100k for Gerard garner of fleetwood. Highly doubt that given we are having to move players on to get players in

Can’t say I’m inspired by that. It makes sense in that Fleetwood are looking to clear out having made 2 big signings today.

  13. Just playing devils advocate to all the big fat NO’s to come …. Are the people who are saying no saying no for football reasons?

Tony Watt is most certainly a divisive character and not the sort of fella I’d want to go for a pint with. However, if his presence makes the difference between staying up and going down (and he has the ability to make that difference) then surely it has to be a bit fat YES regardless of how much of a baw bag he is?

Admittedly I haven't seen the guy play but his CV certainly makes good reading. Pop him in the lineup for Shields would do nicely.

He’d most likely be seen as an Efford replacement. The boy is rapid.

He played most of last season as part of a front 2 looking for knock downs from a big CF but is at his best as a winger and driving at full backs.

Surprised to see Leko linked with coming to The Well.

This is a player with true ability. However, having seen him over 2 spells at Charlton (one in the championship where he ripped it up and one in league 1 where he was a passenger) his signing could be awesome but could equally be a total disaster.

There’s a reason why he’s being touted in the EFL rumour rags for a trip to Scotland and he needs to reverse his career decline. Perhaps Fir Park could be the place to do it.

If he does, we’ll have a player on our hands.

Given who was on the shortlist this is the best appointment. Simo was too big a risk considering our current position and the other candidates were poor. Hammell's only job this season is to keep us up which will be very difficult.

Hopefully the lack of interest in the job from credible managers gives Burrows and the other key decision makers at the club a kick up the arse regarding our transfer policy. We have been burning piles of cash on dross for too long and it's left us in a very precarious position. Something has to change on that front. No more Effords, no more Grimmys, no more Niernolds, Ojalas, Sloths.

Is your reference to the poor candidate list based upon knowledge of applicants and interviewees or the social media rumours?

  17. I don’t get this insistence that it has to be someone from within or a former club legend.

My adopted English home team Charlton are exactly the same (so very similar to the well in so many ways) are exactly the same.

From my vantage point, Stevie Hammel is not the right man for the job yet and if he’s doing a great job in what is a critical role, why move him? Perhaps in time, he will be and hopefully he’s smart enough to see that.

I also watched them regularly, having lived there for a bit. Sure, the situation at Ipswich wasn't great, but his style of football was rank. As you'll no doubt know, the fanbase there is fairly passive, so to see them react to him in the manner they did was a bit of an eye-opener.

Basically, Lambert was many of the things our support didn't like about Alexander. Which is why I think he'd be a terrible choice.

I have several Ipswich fan friends and you’re on the money.

Yes, weeyin is also correct, the club has been in decline before and after Lambert but it’s fair to say that Lambert got access to more resources than his long term predecessor (the much maligned Mick McCarthy) who worked minor miracles to keep them a mid table Championship club.

In short, Lambert is still living off of his Norwich days where quite frankly, he  was fortunate to have what he had at the club. Motherwell’s player budget is a fraction of what he would have had to get out of League 1 and the squad he inherited would romp our league outwith the top 2.

in short … if you think Alexander was a bad move, Lambert would have burning effigies outside the main stand by next summer.

If you think we have a decent squad then we have traced the root of your delusion.

I'll judge Alexander on our league performances.  If we have a poor opening round of matches he'll be under a lot of pressure.

I'm not judging him on these European matches where facts show we are the minnows while our support adopts a delusion based assumption of superiority.

We had exactly the same situation last season against Airdrie.

What are the facts that show us as minnows?

    Airdrie are superior too?

  20. This was the first shirt my parents ever got me as a 6 year olds Christmas present.  All these years on, I have an original adult size Patrick one and I absolutely love it.

whilst this new one isn’t quite as nice, it’s still a cracker. Badge is in the wrong place, waaay too many macron logos and Amber shorts would’ve been better but a great kit that is bang on the trend of making modern versions of old classics.
