  1. Hibs have at least 3 times more the number of season ticket holders than us. They aren’t fan owned and have a wage structure that is far greater than ours. The 2 aren’t comparable you blethering idiot.

  2. Why do you go out your way to be pedantic prick every time you post? Of course he doesn't want us to do that. What he wants us to do is sign a decent physical defender in order to replace the decent physical defender we've just lost. I suspect you knew that though.

  3. Vigurs could be hit or miss but two of the most skillful pieces of football I have ever seen watching Motherwell involved him. The first was a pass he made at Tynecastle to Ainsworth (I think?) from central midfield to the right side of midfield that was not only inch perfect but also showed the type of vision that Luca Modric would be proud of. From memory Ainsworth ran about 30 yards from behind Vigurs to get onto the ball. Having watched the clip several times, I still don't know how he spotted the pass. Don't know if anybody has footage of the pass I am talking about? The second was against us unfortunately. He was playing for ICT and a corner was floated in to the edge of the 18 yard box. He caught it perfectly on the vollley. It was the ease and almost nonchalant way he did it that was so impressive.

  4. We brought in more defenders because we knew (presumably) Kipré was likely to move on in a window or two. It's unfortunate Dunne is injured, but we have Tait, Taylor-Sinclair, Donnelly, Hartley, McGuire and McHugh to choose from. I'll be sorry to see Kipré leave, but there's no denying it's a cracking piece of business for many reasons. First of all, for our business model, it's much needed cash in the bank/loan pay-off. Secondly, we can use it as an example to other players want to sign - "Look at Cédric - wasn't even playing when we signed, and within a year he had 2 Cup Finals, international recognition and move to the Championship" Thirdly - he's young. While I agree he looks like he has the potential to be great, he wouldn't be the first promising youngster that drifted into obscurity by the time they reach 23 or 24.

  5. Just got an email reply from the club to say that the ticket office is closed tomorrow but that tickets will be on sale at Easter Road from 1pm.

  6. I hadn’t read this thread or seen the news of Cedric leaving until having a shufty on here. I’m glad there’s some common sense prevailing as 3 or so pages ago there was some proper slavering getting done. Yes, losing Kipre at this time is a great loss to the team. Yes, he will be difficult to replace but the club recognised that when they started signing him up on better deals. I and anyone else who wasn’t a half wit knew then that Cedric would be gone sooner rather than later. I can only assume that Kmac is young enough to not remember the Boyle “we are going to be Scotlands third force” era? i also assume that those calling for an expansion on player quality are unaware of the financial restrictions imposed upon a fan owned club of our size? Tried and tested costs money we don’t have. Money we can’t generate without trading players at a profit. On the topic of profit. Cedric has been one the best bits of business I have known Motherwell to have. We’ve done everything we promised him and our player/agent marketing machine gets a fresh story sell. However, all this “he’s gonnae be worth £9m this time next hear” is fanciful to say the least. For example, Charlton sold Ezri Konsa to Brentford for £3m this summer. He’s a home grown centre back with footballing ability and pace to burn. He was a member of the England U19&20 wc winning squads and played circa 30 games last season at CB, RB and CDM in league 1 never once looking out of place. The point I’m making is that pound for pound, he’s a better player than Cedric Kipre on all counts at this time and is an Englishman playing in the English leagues. Cedric will do well but will have very tough competition in the division he’s going to.

  7. If people are going to go into meltdown every time their team sells / loses one of their better players they should probably avoid supporting Motherwell (or any Scottish team for that matter).

  8. Hi Iain just sent £10 smacharoonies your way

  9. We did it under McCall. Kept the side that reached the cup final, added a couple of players for the first 11 and the result was three years at the top of the table. The Euro places are probably beyond us now the city clubs have repaired their finances but there are still positive targets to aim for beyond a 38 game relegation battle.

  12. Some people need to get a grip I think. Selling Kipre will not be the difference between us staying up or going down just like the possibility of losing to Hibs on Sunday with a bit of a depleted squad will not relegate us. There is a long season ahead with almost a month left to get players in. It's very likely the 'football' on offer this season won't be great again but we're a long way off being relegation fodder.

  13. I saw an interview with Burrows where he said the aim was to avoid relegation. If we can't try and push on after two cup finals with most of the squad under contract when will we? Going by what he said in the paper we might as well change our name to Motherwell Accies.

  14. Like for Like for Kipré would mean bringing in an out of work player who has never made a first team start.

  15. Weve probably taken 500 grand wi a % sell on, knowing if he has even a half decent season at Wigan, they will sell him for £9m plus next summer. Gutting how shitey Scottish Football is treated but money talks

  16. You only need to go back as recently as this time last season, when folks were telling us how raw and naive Cedric was and how useless Dunne was, to see why the argument that new signings are "not a step up in quality" is pointless. We need to give ATS, Donnelly (and McGuire ) time to get up to speed and settle in. I guarantee that everyone who complained about Dunne last August is gutted he is not playing this August.

  17. No Dunne and Kipre means our ability to body teams has been drastically reduced. Disappointing.

  18. I tend to think there's been definite improvement in how we've handled transfers of our players. It's not so very long we were in the position of being desperate to sell a player in the January window to help us through to the end of the season. We've come a good way since then and they generally go much closer to our terms these days. It matters not a jot how rich English clubs. It matters what they are prepared to pay for our players. From many of the reports it seems that there's a sensible balance between gaining a decent fee with clauses built in to generate additional returns further down the line. The commitment to players like Kipre, Moult, Heneghan and Johnson that you come to Motherwell, progress and get a step up has been honoured and the process begins again hopefully with whoever next comes in. It's unfortunate timing but the transfer model has worked perfectly.

  19. Yes just like every club in Scotland we are a selling club, but, English football is awash with money and £1M is small beer to them so are we being dazzled or should I say diddled. If we do sell Kipre, as seems likely now, surely we should be asking £1M cash money with add-ons and not £1M including add-ons. We continually under-value our best players and allow them to go for way less than they could.

  20. Need to add another £500,000+ before it breaks our record fee - Phil O'Donnell to Celtic.

  21. Like Kipré, but if a bid of £1m with a sell on and other future income clauses comes in we should accept. It's exactly the business model we're aspiring to and I'd expect it would be yet another example to put in front of would-be signings. In terms of the debt, as far as I know it's interest free, so I guess we need to balance paying it off, with leveraging its usefulness. Eg Rather than just whacking the supposed £1m to Boyle/Hutchison, just pay what we're obliged to, then make a judgement as to whether the remainder is best used to find a replacement replacement, or go on infrastructure etc or pay the debt.

  22. We've got to be realistic as a club and sell players when fair bids come in. That's our ethos as a club and how we sell ourselves to players- if we start messing players around we might not be as attractive an option to future targets. It's fine to dingy derisory offers like Celtics for Carson but if the offer for Kipre is anywhere approaching a million plus add ons then it's fair and we have to take it. If it leaves us short on players we can afford a few nominal fees, even after paying our creditors.

  23. The debt being paid is necessary, but will it give us a warm rosy glow after three seasons in the Championship? The problem is that the only figures being quoted are a possibility of seven figures when the add ins kick in. So we are really looking at letting him go and praying for their success. Cedric is a potential goldmine as he genuinely has the assets to go all the way to the top. We seriously need to cash in on this, whether it is now, or later. Half a million now( speculation) looks cheap and one would hope that we could do a bit better.

  24. Think Carson has played with the shoulder issue most of his career, certainly hasn't stopped him looking like a top keeper that's for sure.
