  1. We spent 5 million pounds on wages last year. We are hardly skint. We have a manager, assistant manager and head of recruitment who are all paid to find players for a living. If the best they can come up with is Bair, Paton and Obika then you need to question if they are up to the job. We have 10 days to find out.

  2. And you do obviously, who would you have signed then enlighten us all with your wisdom or why not just have a day off from the shite patter and give us all peace.

  4. Sorry but the signing of Obika was a terrible bit of recruitment. Was out around 6 months at Morecambe with a hamstring injury, missed 7 games end of last season with a hamstring injury and low an behold out to when ever with a hamstring injury these all in last two years!Shouldn't have been avoided at all costs but no 1 year deal with a 1 year extension option. Nobody can't tell me that no other players in UK and Ireland that would could have got on same package that could have been at least fit.

  5. So with all the professional expertise and insight the Club have at their disposal, what is your assessment of their recruitment policy so far? No cop out of " It's early days" or " Who would you bring in" or "We are skint". From what you have witnessed so far what are your first impressions? Marks out of ten if you like. Could/Should they have done better? Have they done their job well? Us fans always have thoughts about who we think might improve us as a team, but we don't employ a team of professionals, with a detailed knowledge of the market, who are paid to scour that market all year round, succession planning for the likes of KVV and Max J moving on and looking to possible injuries to key players. Where I do disagree with Steelboy is that his focus seems to be purely on Kettlewell and also there is no benefit in slaughtering players who I believe are trying their best. But as a fan he is entitled to express the concerns that he and others have. My view is that there are others within the Club who need to look at their own performance. From those charged with overseeing finance and investment, to those controlling structure and policy, to those with final say on recruitment and retention. Given the restrictions within which we are told Kettlewell has to operate, it is remarkable what he has achieved since he took over the Managerial role. How long can that last is my worry. Bottom line, initial evidence suggests our recruitment has been extremely poor but that failure does not lie solely at Kettlewell's door. The issues are much more deep rooted than that. But football being football, we will now win the Scottish Cup and finish top four.

  6. He coined the term “Brave as a lion” for Phil O’Donnell I believe. I’m not a fan of McCoist as a pundit or a commentator but those were iconic words to describe PO’D scoring that goal in the 91 final.

  7. We can't keep going from season to season with that approach. Things don't go well, we panic and spend a ton of cash we don't really have.

  8. This is a very good point. We always see the same old arguments whenever anyone questions the signing the club makes, which is, "well, could you do any better? Who would you sign?" It's a ridiculous argument, really. I know players need six months in the league to learn the language and all that, but I'm not really feeling any different about Bair, Obika, and Wilkinson than I was when they signed. I was concerned about their career numbers and trajectory to this point, and they're not really doing anything that suggests to me that they're going to change. Again, I hope I'm wrong. I also hope we sign some other players who can do a job for us. As things stand, I'm not particularly optimistic about the current squad or how Kettlewell has us playing.

  9. You actually need to have access to the information to come up with players. That doesn't mean you can't criticise it though. That argument is as stupid as saying no one can say NHS waiting lists are too long unless they start doing hospital rotas.

  10. No chance of winning the Scottish Cup. We’ll probably draw St.Mirren again in the 4th Round or some other top flight side and that’ll be that. You never know though, we might get lucky and draw a lower league side, like Dundee Utd and Moult will score against us while his fanboys in the East Stand blow him kisses and throw their knickers at him.

  11. Kettlewell did a very good job in stabilising us last season and deserves his chance to prove himself but he certainly hasn’t covered himself in glory as far as his recruitment has gone this summer. We knew KvV was leaving at the end of last season and preparations to get in an adequate replacement(s) should have been made. Obviously it was going to be nigh on impossible for us to find another 29 goal a season striker but for us to be approaching the end of the window with a crocked and aging Obika, 6ft 4ins Wilkinson who looks like he’s never headed a football in his life, Bair who scored once for St.Johnstone last season, Efford who is himself injured and now a loanee who will probably not play for us again(obviously not his or the managers fault to be fair) is absolutely dismal. We could well be forced to throw in a 17 year old Mark Ferrie in the hope that he can offer us something up front. Not good at all.

  12. The fact that we are a week from the window closing and we are 4/5 starters short is criminal. Right from the moment when he brought Paton to the club it was clear Kettlewell didn't have a clue what he was doing in the transfer market. I said at the beginning of the window he had never made a good signing and with a week to go it remains true. 10 days to turn it around.

  13. Maybe fact it's slow motion but I am not convinced he has deliberately went out to do Mika. It's a terrible blow for us and Mika obviously and only way to get justice is to pump them at Fir Park on 16 September

  14. We werent that bothered when Bowman was putting himself about at Hampden. It was a bad challenge, and its going to have a huge impact on us. But lets not be hypocrites......

  15. Biereth being out for 3 months is a huge blow. He looked the real deal with the pace, power and finishing that we had been missing and would have complimented perfectly the other forwards we have at the club, taking away the unreasonable expectation being placed on their shoulders. We now have a problem, and its one that will require to be addressed as we cant go the next 3 months limping by waiting on Biereth to be fit again. Fletcher is an interesting one. I really like him as a player. He is a clever footballer who links the play well and brings others into play. Problem is he has never been a prolific goalscorer and doesnt have any pace, so Im not sure he would be the answer to our problems. Like others have said. We maybe considered him or even approached him, but the finances didnt allow us to follow it through. Thats why we have ended up with Obika, Bair and Wilkinson who, for me, are all there to fill the 2nd support striker role. I think we probably need to see if there is another loanee out there similar to Mika, with pace and power. Otherwise we wont be able to stretch teams by going in behind. Re McGinley, I think he should have played on Saturday and left the rest of the defence alone given it had been fine in the previous games. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we made too many changes due to one player being unavailable. That says to me McGinley will be on his way as soon as there is a club that will have him. Big problem is it only leaves us with Ewan Wilson fit. We will either need to get someone in there or just play the boy. He might need to sink or swim. That doesnt seem fair to him, but we would at least find out if he is good enough.

  16. Fletcher is a player we should have been looking at before bringing back obika and signing bair,he would have been a better option that either of those,we have wilkinson as the target man so adding fletcher now would just give us another big guy up front with not a lot of movement,we need the opposite, were crying out for pace and movement up front.

  17. Forget corners and free kicks, never in my life have I seen a Motherwell team able to take a successful throw-in. We're just shit at it.

  18. Even just talking about trophies any of our fans younger than late 30s won't have seen us lift a trophy. Guys the same age who support St Mirren, Dundee United, Killie, St Johnstone, Ross County, Inverness have seen it. That's a big disapointment for a lot of our support and every Motherwell manager should be told no weakened team pish in cup games.

  19. Connor Shields was that type of player, had a decent goal record before joining us but it didn’t work out partly because - I believe -our fans helped destroyed his confidence. Hopefully our current strikers and anyone else we sign at least get a chance to settle before being verbally abused or booed when they come on.
