Paatelainen rejects talk of Smith deal

    Published Date: 10 March 2009

    By Iain Collin

HIBS manager Mixu Paatelainen last night insisted he hopes to secure Grzegorz Szamotulski on a long-term deal as he laughed off suggestions he was ready to sign Motherwell keeper Graeme Smith on a pre-contract agreement.

Smith has so far failed to pen fresh terms with Motherwell and weekend reports claimed he would move to Easter Road on a free transfer at the end of the season. However, Paatelainen, who is continuing his search for a long-term solution to his goalkeeping dilemma, has dismissed the claims and maintained no talks have taken place with the former Rangers player.

He said: "That is just some agent's way of advertising his player. There have not been any talks with him at all."

Paatelainen brought in Szamotulski on a short-term deal in January and the 32-year-old has added badly-needed security between the sticks with back-to-back clean sheets in Hibs' last two matches against Falkirk and Hamilton.

Paatelainen added: "We are very happy with Szamo and we'll see what happens there.

"I think he's done a good job for us since he came into the team and obviously we've got to look at that situation.

"His wage demands are quite big. But he enjoys it here, he enjoys training and playing with the rest of the boys, so we'll have to wait and see."

o the Home Club and Visiting Club should exchange details of those to whom they have sold tickets to the visiting support area if requested to do so.

    Hibernian F.C.

Each and every away match ticket sold from the Hibernian Ticket Office must be assigned to a client on the database. The Ticket Office will require the following information

    · Name

    · Address

    · Contact Number

    · E-mail address

    · Date of birth

If the purchasing client is purchasing more than one ticket, and the other attendees are not on the database, the minimum information shown above must be provided in order to register them onto our database and ensure the club is compliant with SPL Rules and Guidelines.

    Falkirk F.C.

"As long as we comply with SPL guidelines and ground safety regulations we can continue and there is nothing anyone else can do about it.

We have to take names, addresses and contact details for the seat allocated to an individual person and that allows a fair degree of security."

And, I have been asked for my details for every ticket I have purchased from the Fir Park ticket office this season, as was everyone ahead of me in the queue each time.

  4. Ha Ha good one - How they gonna do that - I was never asked for any identification or supporting documentation prior to buying my ticket. Did you post this on the basis that this is what should happen, rather than any basis of fact - because it brings nothing to the discussion or resolution.

Agreed though the likelihood is that MFC will be billed - If anyone knows who they were, then shop them to the Club.

SPL rules state clubs selling tickets must take the name and address of the customer, so anyone who bought a ticket at Fir Park should have been asked to provide this.

  5. how can they bill the club if you are able to buy tickets at tynecastle therefore got no evidence if it was actually mwell fans all be it in the mwell section ?

Even if they can't prove the people who broke the seats are genuine Motherwell fans, the damage is caused to the Motherwell section, so the bill for any damages will go to Fir Park.

Also if the tickets corresponding to any broken seats were sold at Fir Park, the first thing Motherwell will probably do is look to see who bought those seats, which could mean innocent fans getting the blame for something they may not even have done, because a large number of people wouldn't even have sat on the seat their ticket was for.

  6. Instead, we've announced it as early as was possible and slashed the current stock in the Club Shop.

Going by the above post and the shop website stating "All Bukta merchandise reduced to clear", I would have expected to see the stock reduced by more than the current half price.

I realise PSL are trying to make as much as they possibly can from the Bukta stock, but I can't see a great deal of shirts selling at £20.

Price them at £10 each and you'd probably get a good few people buying them for playing 5-a-sides.

  7. tbh, think it is quite outrageous how several fans are posting, "Ebc are gay" for a start you havn't gave us a chance or even seen the group in action, fair enough posting it after you have seen the group in action, but just posting negative and pathethic comments only because you dont like the name is absoulutly pathetic!!

Is your group the ones who had the loudhailer and set off the flares at Inverurie?

  8. It was also said that they were NOT putting the covers down as the forecast is fine ;):O and that there would be no need for an inspection at all :D:O:O

If the covers haven't been put down, and the game is postponed, then the game should be moved.

WINGER LINED UP IN SHOCK LOAN MOVE

    By Kenny MacDonald, 31/01/2009

MOTHERWELL are set to land Derby winger Gary Teale in a shock loan move.

Sport of the World can reveal that Well boss Mark McGhee negotiated the move for former Ayr star Teale as part of the £400,000 deal which took Chris Porter to Derby.

The wing king will beat tomorrow’s transfer deadline to join up at Fir Park until the end of the season.

Teale, right, joined Derby from Wigan for £600,000 in January 2007, but he’s had loan spells at Plymouth and Barnsley since moving to Pride Park and looks to have drifted out of new boss Nigel Clough’s plans.

Teale, 30, has won 11 Scotland caps and gaffer McGhee hopes he can boost his side’s European bid.

Meanwhile, Well have netted the same amount of money for Porter even though Derby’s fee was £25,000 less than Cardiff offered.

Well made the same profit because Porter waived money still due to him from Fir Park to ensure the switch south went ahead.

Porter won’t make his Rams debut in the FA Cup replay at Nottingham Forest because he is ineligible.

He could make his bow in Saturday’s Championship match at Plymouth.

Rams net Porter in Well Raid

MOTHERWELL striker Chris Porter last night completed a £400,000 move to Derby County.

Fir Park top scorer Porter, 25, even waived his agreed cut of the fee to make sure he got the transfer he wanted.

The hitman dramatically rejected a £425,000 switch to Cardiff City on Thursday after being told of new Rams boss Nigel Clough's interest in him.

Derby chief Adam Pearson agreed a fee with Well and a delighted Porter quickly agreed terms and passed a medical.

Now the former Oldham striker — who scored 27 goals in 65 games for Well — could be set for a Championship home debut against Coventry City.

Porter was a Bosman signing for Well in July 2007 and hit 18 goals in his first campaign to help inspire the team to a stunning third place and UEFA Cup spot.

He had scored nine goals this term and Well boss Mark McGhee said: "He's been a terrific player for us and I told him that. It's been a pleasure having him here.

"He has got a great attitude, he's a good pro and he is ambitious.

"The move's not been fully processed yet, but we've agreed a deal with Derby and he's agreed his personal terms and had his medical.

"We're getting slightly less from Derby than we would have from Cardiff, but there are other aspects which make it just as good a deal."

McGhee, however, still reckons Porter should have gone to Ninian Park.

He said: "I respect his decision to go to Derby, but I went on record to say I thought he should have gone to Cardiff and I stand by that.

"Cardiff are a team vying for the Premiership.

"Derby are a great club, but I think they are a wee step behind Cardiff at the moment.

"But he's chosen Derby for his own reasons. I think he feels he'd rather be nearer home than way down in Cardiff."

McGhee is now anxious to find Well a replacement for Porter.

He said: "It's a blow to lose Chris.

"The fee will help the club's finances but the wages are already in the budget so we can use them to bring in one or two players on loan.

"We've got a couple of contingencies. We have spoken to people over the last few weeks and there's a few leads.

"I didn't want to lose Chris but the fact is we need the money.

"We need to balance the books."

The topic title will need changed now.

  11. There is more money to be had for Porter by not moving just now. I would be very suprised if he agreed to move now.

That is true, but, if Porter says he's staying put until the summer, he could then easily pick up a serious injury a day after the window closes and his chance of a big money move could be ruined.

I would rather not lose him, but, I'd tend to agree with McGhee that his best option is to move now.

  12. Just watching Press Box on Setanta there.

Billy Reid on it talking about how he had to let Yantarno return to Hibs as rules dictate he can only have one over 21 player on loan at one time and they already have an over 21 player.

    Never heard of that before

Kinda rules out McGhee's multiple loan moves.

Steven Smith loan deal to St Mirren is off too.

That rule doesn't apply to players registered to a different national association.

  13. Given he currently takes home £6000 a week, I'd rate the chances of seeing Alan Gow in a Motherwell shirt at slim to none.

Paul Gallagher's on loan at Plymouth for the season.

    Don Cowie's signed a pre-contract at Watford.

If we can get Webster, another striker and a left-sided player, I think we'll be okay.

I don't see us spending any money on transfer fees, but the sale of Porter would give a bit more room to manoeuvre in terms of wages.

  14. Yea, definitely was 18 he scored last season.

Other reason I remember because Im sure about Christmas time 'Flow put a fair wack of money on Porter to score 20+ goals (maybe a few hundred 'Flow?) and well, he never quite got there, did he?

I think he will score 20 goals this season.

  15. Wait a wee minute, what about John Hendry.

Spurs paid Dundee 50K for John Hendry and in a 5 year career he played 1 (ONE) match for them. Spurs had been loaning him out with a hope of him striking a deal with another club, it didn't happen. They couldn't get rid of him, along comes Alex McLeish and offers them four times what they paid for him, yes he paid 200K for him. There is nothing in Hendry's career that warrants that amount of money. I couldn't uinderstand it at the time and I understand it even less now. Although I can understand now why Big Eck kept coming to his defence when the fans were booing him.

    The next Jurgen Klinsmann apparantly.

  16. And at Fir Park i would think, is it not 3 strikes then they change the venue??

No such rule exists, Inverurie v Vale of Leithen was played at the fourth attempt.

I think they'd want to make as much money as possible, so switching to Fir Park, getting free rent of the ground and a much larger gate would make all the sense in the world.

Any switch of venue, would not involve the tie being played at Fir Park.

If a ground is unfit to host a tie, the nearest ground of a similar capacity is used.
