  1. Worth mentioning that Dundee seem to have accepted a £500k + add-ons offer from Birmingham for Greg Stewart who has a year of his deal to run.
  2. It depends what you're comparing or where you're looking for the logic I suppose. Cummings is 21 has only just signed a new 4 year deal at a club who won a trophy last year and you'd think are pretty much aiming solely on getting promotion this season, he's viewed as a key part of that and presumably Hibs don't want to sell him. If he scores goals to get them promoted then his value to them in terms of increased income that would follow would, you'd think, be worth £1m to them, assuming they don't actually *need* to sell him. Magennis on the other hand is about to turn 26, is in his last year of his contract and Killie, it'd appear are open to getting what they can for him rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season. They've also got their own board room problems and posted significant losses so you'd think they'd be keen to get some money in for an asset whose value is soon to be negligible. Beyond that as many have said on here, a player's only worth what someone else is willing to pay. So in that respect it's a case of who's making the offers and what they're willing to spend: Charlton were relegated last season and are a bit of a basketcase. At the very least there's a lot of friction between fans and board/owners. It'd be surprising if they'd be chucking a lot of money about. On the flip of that you've got Peterborough who seem quite happy to be spendy and have a wealthy owner who quite likes the attention.
  3. No one as far as I can see. The article says he was at the Stranraer game and that "scouts" have watched "almost" every Motherwell game thus far.
  4. In fairness I thought Watt had a good game against Edinburgh City and I've generally been quietly impressed when I've seen him at centre half. However he's another who I'd say would probably benefit from going out on loan for a season, he seems more than capable at u20 level but a fair distance off even the first team bench.
  5. Not even taking into account Johnson's relative value in terms of ability, if you consider the disruption it'd cause to the team and also that a league placing is worth what £100k-ish then I don't blame the club for rejecting the (improved!!!) offer.
  6. So it seems McGhee called it right. Oxford can't afford Marv. http://m.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/14668659.Oxford_United_give_up_on_Marvin_Johnson_after_Motherwell_reject_another_bid/
  7. I think a degree of what happens with Clay, Lucas or anyone else we may bring in will be dictated by what happens on the fringes of the squad. With Blyth just coming back from injury, Moult out and no Laing or Kennedy of the 7 subs 5 played in the u20 cup final. To say it was a youthful bench would be putting it mildly. Picking up on Busta's point about missing a trick loaning Dom Thomas and also Craigan's hint that a couple would be going out on loan if say Campbell and Turnbull go out on loan that's probably putting us in a position where we'd need some sort of additional midfield cover given both those players have been appearing on the bench through pre-season. Another point is whether or not Joe Chalmers is now viewed as a midfield option or simply just a general utility man, who'll sit on the bench and fill in when needed.
  8. He's saying to the press there's no concussion and that he's keen to play on Wednesday if they can protect it with a headband or such. I guess the question is the likelihood of the wound opening and needing to have him subbed off.
  9. Was Jackie McInally. Played for Killie ''59-'68 and Motherwell '68-'73. http://www.steelmenonline.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=15300&do=findComment&comment=474625
  10. Absolutely. I thought it was, surprisingly, a great decision by whoever gave it. Watching it back you see Coulibaly kick out at Heneghan's knee with his right boot while they're competing for the ball. Results in a tangle of legs and he goes down. I've seen quite a lot of chat from Killie fans banging on about pens that the feel they should have had, honestly can't say I thought any of them were. Well, certainly not of the nailed on variety they seem to be claiming. Samson was perhaps a bit crude with his punched clearance but whilst he cleaned their boy out he made good contact with the ball.
  11. 2nd round of the IRNBRU Challenge Cup.
  12. He played in their 3-1 win yesterday.
  13. That's a tremendous press conference tbf.
  14. Just saw that. It's a sensible move from the club IMO. While I have my doubts we'd get that for him, for the market you'd think we'd looking to sell and the player would want to go (top half English Championship) it's not exactly a prohibitive amount. I don't think anyone could say they'd be pricing him out the market by quoting that sort of figure. Main thing I suppose is you'd hope it stops clubs like Oxford coming along and disrupting things with low-ball offers. As far as I can see that article is saying the club's stance is: "the player has 2 years on his deal, we don't need to sell. Unless you're going to offer proper money, don't bother asking." Fair play to the club. They handled the McDonald situation well and also seem to be saying the right things re: Johnson.
  15. I'm not sure this is totally relevant but did McHugh not go on record saying that the deal he's signed was "significantly" less than the terms Plymouth were offering? Whether he was just trying to play down the whole thing given the absolute seethe it seemed to have caused (and still is from the looks of thing) IDK but it seemed an oddly explicit thing for him to say.
  16. ^^^ Pretty much this. I'm genuinely interested to see how El Bahktaoui fares. I'd have picked Skippy over him every day of the week though. Given Dundee are looking to replace Hemmings' 25 goals (plus Stewart's contributions when he goes) it's a fair amount of pressure on a player with one good season in the seaside leagues to his name.
  17. Thought Watt showed up well at centre half again. Standouts by some distance were Campbell and Turnbull though the latter dropped out the game 2nd half. All in all a very decent performance, first half in particular I thought they passed and moved well. Played with a fair bit of composure too. Couple of lovely goals, Mackin's in particular.
  18. Key points here IMO: "But sources at United this morning made it clear while a polite enquiry had been made about Johnson's availability, no formal approach had followed. They are monitoring the situation, but the chances of securing a move for a player who would command a significant transfer fee at this stage was described as "unlikely"."
  19. No reason why we can't go there and win. Would be interesting to see what happens if we start taking some of the early chances we seem to be creating. The team seems to pick itself at the moment and unlike last season where there was an influx of players McGhee seems to have settled on a wide 433 that should, in theory, get the best out of the players he has at his disposal. It may just be me but there seems to be less of a square pegs in round holes feel to the starting XI. Question for me is really how the defence holds up and whether we can get a winger close enough to McDonald to play as a 2nd striker so he's not completely isolated. I'd have thought we'd be looking at: Samson Tait Heneghan McManus Hammell Cadden Lasley McHugh Ainsworth McDonald Johnson
  20. Was it not Rangers who were in for Goodwillie? Seems it was: http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/14409830 United want £1.5m+ Rangers offer £500k. https://www.thecourier.co.uk/sport/football/104861/dundee-united-reject-rangers-bid-for-david-goodwillie/
  21. I see Celtic are apparently going back to Villa with a £3m bid for Sinclair. If that ends up happening I wonder if Villa have Johnson earmarked as a potential replacement.
  22. In fairness given the general chat about how we've missed a trick not loaning Dom Thomas out I wonder whether we'd be likely to see Campbell going out on a Dev loan.
