Other thing to think about is that it is highly unlikely that any money would be paid in full up front. So if it was £3m, it's likely to be 3 payments of £1m over 3 season for example.

To be fair, if players leave the pitch, they pretty much always book the goalscorer.
I've been checking.
A weird one in the league cup semi, where Leigh Griffiths took Dembele to the crowd, and jumped the wall into the stand, but Dembele got booked as he scored rather than Griffiths. (Who took him to the spot David dray had gone when hibs scored in the cup final).
Griffiths is on the right....
Except they should either always be booked or never be booked. Rogic wasn't booked for going into the crowd after he scored winner against us. Personally if players run to or into their own supporters its fine by me, different if they run to the opposition.

I presume he scored all their goals in September? It must be a bit tongue in cheek, as 2 of them were tap ins and one, possibly 2 were crosses.
Yes he did - he got all 5 of the goals that they scored

Just watched highlights there, Johnsons booking for celebrating is a disgrace. Jumped the mini advertising board and stops at front of stand to celebrate with the zero fans allocated seats there. Enough is enough with these petty rules. Basically he's been booked for daring to enjoy scoring a goal. Totally shite rule.
During the Euros players were celebrating with the crowd and not getting booked, I had hoped they had relaxed that stupid rule. As long as its your own fans whats the problem? The authorities seem to want to remove all the joy from the game. (Admittedly our players can sometimes do that on their own!).

It's all about balance though. Some will stay some will move on. It's kind of how it works. It's obviously disappointing if players with potential move on but equally if they're moving to clubs that are viewed as a step up it's a positive as long as we're being compensated (and a club in the English Premier League is exactly that). OK it may be disappointing if Robbie Leitch and Ben Hall move under freedom of contract but the balance is surely that we get the development fee and we've kept Cadden, Campbell's signed a new deal as has MacLean.
We've heard all the chat about how the club is trying to position itself as a platform for youth development and most folk are on board with that, some players moving on earlier than expected is something people will have to get used to. Some will stay, some will go and if those moving on are stepping up to clubs such as Leeds (in the case of Erwin) and Burnley then it's placing MFC as a decent platform and pathway.
Thistle moved Jack Hendry on to Wigan last season having only played 8 games and brought in a couple of hundred grand, Falkirk moved Ryan Blair to Swansea on a 3.5 year deal and he had only played 7 games for them. In that respect it's by no means a Motherwell thing that a young player with little first team experience might be profited on, especially if an English club at a certain level is willing to take a punt. It's not a case of the players not being viewed as good enough or not rated, it's about both club and player taking an opportunity when it presents its
Spot on. We can't pay players what we can't afford, and if they move on and we get compensation (or a transfer fee), then that's fine.

Where's the advantage of being top seeds if we end up away from home to the second seeds?
That means we should have all our games at home as we are higher seeds than all the other teams. The seeding was to keep last season's Premiership teams apart, nothing else as far I am aware.

That's what we should be budgeting for every season in my opinion, and I've made that point before. If we attain a higher level of success or sell on a player for a decent wedge then we can look at how best to invest the profit as & when, but 10th and no cup run is how we should be budgeting.
I also had a feeling that the glut of signings under Baraclough would come back to bite us on the arse. A few disagreed with me at the time, but I was confused that Les was preaching about staying within budget and cutting our cloth only to go out and sign a shitload of players, especially when we should have been drafting from our youth team.
I think there was a panic set in that we were going to go (straight) down and that's how they decided to try and prevent it. I guess if Johnson goes for a decent fee it would compensate somewhat.
As for current budgets I agree with what you are saying. It might mean we don't get in the same the level of player, but with decent coaching and hopefully youth players coming through we should be able to achieve a minimum of 10th, and you never know we might win a couple of cup games, or sell a player for some money!

It's sobering to think that I've been going along to Fir Park for more than 25% of our entire history!
Oh dear, 35% for me!

We never really gave McHugh his chance did we?
88 appearances (all competitions) 8 goals. Mind you about 80 of those were from the bench!
-
Yes he was. I thought he was excellent.

First time watching the u20's, won't be the last. Great entertainment and the future looks bright.
Was Campbell No 6?

Surely it's drop ball if the ball boy kicks or picks up the ball before it went out of play? As that's what happened
I didn't see it properly either from my seat in East stand and wondered what was going. I thought we only had ball boys behind the goals, so didn't realise that could have happened.

I was at that game, Coop was amazing and added about 2500 to our gates, at that game there were over 8,000!!!. My first game was April 1977 as a 5 year old when we beat Ajax 4-2 in a friendly. A Hamilton lad Born and bred but my Dad was a Motherwell man and made sure I would follow the Well, been a rollercoaster but wouldn't swap it for anything. COYW!!!
I've still got the match programme from that game, probably ruined its value somewhat by scrawling the final score on the front of it!

The first game I remember being at was a 4-0 home win against Hibs. I did a bit of digging around this afternoon and found out it was played on 10th October 1970. I don't remember anything else about it, other than I was 7 and sat in the main stand with my Dad. Back then I only got taken to 2 or 3 games a year, and I never saw them lose until about 1978! Thought it was about to happen when we were 2-0 down at halftime to Kilmarnock in 1976/77 season, but that was the one we came back to win 5-4, one of the all time classics.

As an aside, if we've offered him a deal and he opts to move on I guess we'd be entitled to compensation.
This may be exactly why we have offered him a deal. If we don't he will leave for nothing. It might be a minimal offer that he won't accept but allows us to claim compensation.
My understanding is that he has to be offered the same deal or better than he is currently on, before any compensation can be claimed. Admittedly his deal may not be that great currently.

I agree
I'll be going to the final and I hope a lot of other well fans head to Hampden too
I'll be going too, and my Dad as well.

Inverness and County are at least two hours drive away from the nearest clubs in their halves of the split.
They have to play someone midweek.
County could have played Aberdeen, and Inverness maybe one of the Dundee's. Still not close but a bit closer.
Or better still, no mid week games.
-
Mid-week games - Accies v Inverness, and Ross Co. v Motherwell - SPFL always putting the fans first !!

Kennedy's an interesting one for me. Like most when I watch him play I enjoy his physicality and willingness to put in a challenge.....but I can't shake off the feeling that it's not a case of if he's going to do something incredibly daft but when. A younger, less experienced and less psychotic version of Tim Clancy if you will.
Happily though he is young enough that, you would hope, with more experience the rashness will fade. Whilst he might have Manchester City and Leicester on his CV he's not got that much first team experience behind him so he's miles from the finished article yet.
I am sure that I read his first game for us was his first senior game. So he is very inexperienced as far as first team games are concerned, I like him though, I think he will definitely improve if given the chance.

Being a saddo, I have just calculated Ross County and Motherwell average home gates for season so far - league games only. County - 4054 and Motherwell 4,559. Our average is bolstered by having 3 decent home attendances at start of season and 8888 against Celtic.

I see the club have issued a comment on the actions they need to follow up on. Anything we can do to encourage the youngsters to keep off the park?
Electric fence? Seriously though, its going to be hard, no matter how often they are told they still run on.

I take it the U20's are not allowed to play over-age players in the cup games and that only applies to the league games. Can anyone confirm?
You are correct. Quite a few the lads in our "Cup" team are just 16 or 17. Davie Turnbull who scored 2 goals today is 16.

I feel ashamed about this but... Davie Cooper. I thought he was past it and we would roll him out for a crucial penalty or free kick. Glad to have been so very wrong!
