  1. He certainly doesn't put covers on the pitch or cut the grass. There have also been no games called off.

But my idea of a General Manager is that the internal departments of the club will report to him, media, admin staff, ground keeping etc and he will report up to the board and flag up any issues that need escalating. He is not picking the team or the manager or signing off on contracts.

He did help clear the snow off the park recently!

  2. Guy at works son played for Dunfermline Under 20's and he was at the match against Motherwell Under 20's on Monday night. Said we were excellent with our left back and left winger particularly impressive.

Looking at the team, left back would probably be David Ferguson, and left winger would be Dom Thomas.

  3. Is Hall not the first player to come through the ranks and secure a starting place since the likes of Pearson, McFadden and Clarkson? I know Hutchinson did, but we got him from a youth team down south.

I'm a bit concerned that we've not had many coming through in over a decade.

Hall came over from Northern Ireland when he was 16.

  4. Or the other club will be paying more of his salary. Disappointed but in no way surprised.

Sounds like we were trying to sign him on a permanent deal, but another club came in at last minute with a better (ie much larger) deal.

  5. Who was the referee yesterday seemed to be some confusion my friend told me it was Craig Thompson but the guys next to us were convinced it was iggy something or over but the guy in front of me was shouting about thompson as well so anyone know

Because personally i think its hardly surprising if it was Thompson and crew by far the worst ref I've ever seen (so far)

    It was Greg Aitken.

  6. I know he has been helping put with the development squad and at the Academy free and for gratis for the past few months. I think this is a combination of a thank you for that (and he will be continuing on until end of January), plus it will help if he could get a little game time before he heads off to the MLS, if that works out for him. A case of he helps us and we help him. He will be getting paid very little I would suspect.

Didn't Stuart Rennie suffer concussion during this match as well and played on with a bandage "a la " Butcher?

I seem to recall the facial injury he received was the reason he grew a beard.

This was a great game, I also think that we started with, I think, Colin McAdam at right back and he got subbed off soon after we went two down.

Yes, I think he got kicked in the face, got it stitched up at half-time (no goalie subs in those days). I often thought his bravery spurred us on to win that one.

  8. At least he's not irritatingly sarcastic, I'll give him that.

What I was actually referring to is that we have three days before a game against the best team in the country, McGhee said himself that he'll get most out of his players when he's with them, yet he's giving everyone a day off today while he's away to Sussex. When it came up in conversation he made a wee joke and everyone moved on. Textbook McGhee, exactly as I remember him.

Did he say he was giving hem the day off? I thought he said he was going home for day and then back on Thursday. Didnt hear anything about players not being in.

Unfortunately the support dwindling is the only real way of effecting change in the way the owner is thinking and going about his business. We've seen it time & again with other clubs, unless something affects the financial income nothing really changes.

Most club owners are "money" people, and that's all they understand. Truth is, most of them believe they can get away with pretty much whatever they want, because they know that, unlike other businesses, fans of a football team will more often than not continue handing over their cash at the end of the day.

I have to believe that the people responsible for bringing McGhee back knew about his reputation and how a fair amount of our support felt about him, right? But they appointed him regardless, because they know that whilst a lot of us will bitch and moan about it we'll still hand over our cash.

So basically you are saying you want Motherwell Football Club to crash and burn out of existence, because you don't like the way things are at the moment?

  10. If we're true Well fans then we stick by the club through thick and through thin. Managers, players, owners, pitches, strategies all come and go but the fans should remain end of.

Throughout my 55 years of supporting the Well a lot has happened that I didn't like and perhaps you voice your disquiet but in the end you accept that and move on to the next game.

There are supporters and there are fans. You, my friend, are a supporter as am I (not quite at 55 years, but close to 45 years).

  11. If a change of manager is gonna put you you off going to the football , I suggest your better suited to holding yer woman's hand and juking about a shopping centre on a Saturday.

Or more likely your Mammy's hand!

  12. Accounting for my obvious dislike of McGhee, I was still disappointed by the tone of the press conference. In addition, Motherwell should have ensured there were no questions about his 2nd job.

My interest in Motherwell will now be restrained to the 90 mins on the park.

Suspect Robinson is on his way out after guiding his country to he Euro's while we bring in someone who contributed to an 'embarrassing' failure for Scotland.

Ah yes press censorship that's the way forward.

  13. I'd have liked a manager who could build a team, and believes that Motherwell is something other than a stopgap till something better comes along, if McGhee is successful then he will be linked again to Celtic if he flops then no one will bother bar the folk on here. And we'll be back looking for a new manager next year

If he is successful, then that means Motherwell are successful, which is what we (well most of us at any rate) want. Or would you rather our managers were unsuccessful so we can sack them and they dont move on to another job?

  14. See while you're there - check to see if they have any 2nd hand scud books in stock

They are not worth the money - pages are all stuck together...er..so I am told, apparently, cough.....

  15. I am glad I am old enough to have seen him play. Not only was his timing of the tackle impeccable, but he had this uncanny knack of being able to judge the high ball and whether the attacker was going to get it or not. You would see him sometimes take a few steps back, the attacker would jump and miss the ball and there was Joe in exactly the right place to collect it. The best left back I have ever seen at Fir Park. A great player and a great man. RIP Joe.

  16. Same here. Remember the dogs and also my dad took us to the main stand for games like that.

When we were dossing around in the First Division, post-fence days, they almost always opened the gate and we'd swap sides to get a closer view of Willie Irvine's goals.

Your dad, my dad, same dad! This is your big brother here.
