  1. Apparently so but not by me. I will ask him when i see him though.
  2. Yes he was at EP today. There is a strong rumour it's Crewe. Apparently it was interference from the club in football affairs mainly signing players. He was set to resign because of this but the club sacked him.
  3. I have to say, Jim was always very vocal during the games and was always stood. Towards the end we noticed he started leaning against the dug-out and saying nothing. It was completely out of character. Then it started to break that there were off-field problems that resulted in administration. It is definitely not like him if he's mute and sat down!
  4. Oh, and FWIW he was always on a one-year rolling contract with us. He wouldn't sign anything long term although he never had any intentions of leaving.
  5. It's quite amazing reading this as history is repeating itself so accurately. When at Stockport he initially kept us in the FL with an immediate return of results. When he then started to build the squad he did an awful lot of tinkering. During this period of a few months results were a bit indifferent and he started to get some stick. In the meantime he spoke out about the standard of refereeing, he fell out with players (who continued to play for him by the way), he critisised the sponsors choices of MOTM, he argued with supporters behind the dug-outs etc etc. What JG was doing was testing and trying players, pushing them to see if they could play maybe more than just their own position, pushing their ability. In time it worked. What we finished with was a young team that played the most fantastic football whilst being able to constantly change formations leaving the opposition completely baffled as to how to stop us. The only way was to kick us, which happened on a few occasions. Managers often admitted they could not cope with the tactic changes during games, or with the pace and skill that was produced by such a young side. This may happen for Motherwell. I'd stick with him and support his decisions if i were you but that's based on our experience with Jim as manager. I must admit i was suprised at him moving up there. It just happened so suddenly after he had apparently agreed a deal to stay with us and take a pay-cut, which is what he wanted. Next minute the consortium was gazumped and he was made redundant in the strangest circumstances. I also believe he has been reported to have said that he has 'unfinished business' at County. I have continued to follow JG's career and it is quite odd to hear his interviews in the media as it is deja-vu like. Have you any idea who he is meant to have had talks with?
  6. Hi chaps, don't want to worry you lot but it looks lke Brighton are determined to get their man. They tried to get him whilst with us, he went to speak to the then chairman Dick Knight but he turned it down as he wanted to stay with us. Hope things are going well up there! http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/4726375.Bl...it_down/?ref=mr
  7. It's funny reading comments like that. There was so many times when he had us all scratching our heads with his selections and tactics but it then paid off. It was almost a regular occurance.
  8. I'd believe that based on what i know about Jim. He's got his own funny ways, especially with dealing with players. It's funny you mentioned the experienced ones because he wouldn't sign any with us. Many said it was because he can't deal with them, i wonder if it's true? He fell out with plenty of players at Stockport and eventually shipped them out. Like i said on here a few weeks back - if he doesn't feel he's getting 100% or doesn't feel the player fits in then they're history....no matter who they are. Jim was a funny one as a player (10 years with us) and he's certainly a funny one as a manager. Jim is Jim and he will not change for anybody. Glad to see that he's getting some positive feedback from you all already though.

We had him for two loan spells and he is a very, very good all round goalkeeper. Good hands, good shot-stopper, agile and commands his area. Plus he's a big lad. A good signing for your boys. Well done.
  10. Jim's song at our place was to the tune of Mrs Robinson : So here's to you Jimmy Gannon, Stockport loves you more than you will know, Wooooaaaaahhhhhhhhhh Change the words, keep the tune and make him feel at home!
  11. Which apparently cost us appearances on Sky from that point onwards. He would not speak to them for either of the Play-Off semi's v Wycombe or before or after the final at Wembley. He's a stubborn one is Jim.
  12. You will be a passing team there are no two ways about it. It's very, very good to watch. The story of the fall-out, it may have happened but with Jim it most definately could have! The players will have to pull their weight and fit in with his style of play, if they can't they will be moved out no matter who they are. A budget Fergie? Quite possibly.
  13. Josh Thompson - a great prospect but nowhere near the finished article. Manyoo have offered 250k apparently after he was training with their first team prior to the CL final and Peterborough are also prepared to pay for him. Apparently his top target from us is the goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams who is superb! He's regular now for Wales U21 and would be a very good signing. It's soul-destroying seeing all our young talent being taken for next to nothing.
  14. Jim is taking Peter Ward with him. They both played together for County and have been a great partnership off the field too.
  15. Yep, listen to the man! Especially those who sit near the dugouts, your in for a treat.
  16. He will definately need time. You may have to be patient. A lot of other players in our divisions like him. You'll notice at the end of EVERY game he will shake the hand of EVERY player that leaves the field including the opposition, then he will applaud you. Get behind him and what he tries to achieve with you. Like i say though, be patient.
  17. They will get it, i can absolutely guaratee it. He will make unpopular decisions but he's usually justified in it. We ended uphaving that much faith in him most of what he did went unquestioned.
  18. True, he'd stand outside the dugout clapping along. 100% County he is.
  19. Hi Motherwell fans, Stockport fan here in peace to maybe give you a clue about our legendary ex-manager JG. Firstly, we are gutted about what has happened recently and to make a man of this calibre redundant was beyond belief....but that is exactly what the administrators did. Gutting. Jim Gannon first came to County in around 1990 and stayed for that decade playing in lots of different positions but mainly at centre-back or midfield. He regularly scored and was one of the greats for our club. When he applied for the manager's job we were 5 points adrift at the bottom of L2 staring the non-league in the face. He gave the place an immediate lift, installing belief, pride and committment. We stayed up on the last day. A miracle already. The next season we miss out on the Play-Offs on the last day, the following season (last year) we were up via Wembley. An unbelieveable turnaround in 2 years! Last season at Xmas we were 5th in L1 and the football was unreal. It was a pleasure to watch. Then disaster, sales of players started to pay bills and we were in serious trouble. The rest is still going on. As it stands we have no club and worse of all we lose our talisman. What JG will do at Motherwell i expect it to be similar. He wants the game played in the right way. He promotes youth and looks for players who can progress and develop and handle what is thrown at them. He'll look for players who ideally can play more than one position, what he did with some of our players was incredible. Some could play 2 or even 3 different positions. Be patient with him, he'll try lots of different tactics and positions for players to see what they're capable of. He'll most likely play a 4-5-1 formation which changes to a 4-3-3 when you have the ball. Many quotes from opposing managers and players over the last couple of seasons have said that we were a very difficult side to play against because the formation switches constantly. One manager said that there are only two other clubs that can play the system what we played as good as we played it and that was Manyoo and Chelsea. Very complimentary. He is a full UEFA Pro-License holder and it shows. Things to look out for include - programme notes (very entertaining, a great read), his showdown with the officials (expect a dossier of Scotland's finest on the way to the SPL once he gets settled in), fall-outs with players (it WILL happen) and he will speak out against the wrong things in the game. I've probably forgotton loads that i'd love to pass on. Im really envious of you all to have such a man in charge of your club. Im 100% confident it's in good hands. I believe he wants a friendly arranging with us and i also hear his first target is our young goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams. The boy is class. Enjoy having JG, enjoy your season, i'll be rooting for you. All the very, very best and all the luck in the world! He's a County fan and always will be, but he'll be Motherwell also. Look after him for us! Don't be shocked to see County shirts at yours soon.
