Our first season back in the top flight was 85-86, when the likes of Gardner, Wright and Reilly were at the club ? Ian McLeod was captain ? Walker, Wishart, Boyd, McCart and Alex Kennedy were the hot new talent. That was when I started going regularly as a wee boy and was at virtually every home game that season. I think it's a case of rose tinted specs but I liked the likes of 'ruby' Murray, John Reilly and Tam McAdam (who arrived the following season). But I guess when falling in love with your team, no matter how shite they are, each player in claret and amber was a hero. Ps that is also my favourite well kit of all time.

You're right...Jamie Fairlie. I hated him for that goal alone. I was young at the time and that's my excuse. A player I did like around that time who I often heard getting slated was John Reilly.

Just to clarify, I never thought Brian Wright was that bad and absolutely there were worse than him coming in an out of the team on Tommys conveyor belt of transfers. But as a centre mid, he didn't really set the heather on fire, hence only being with us for only a year or so. It was because of that 'windmill' run that my dad developed that irrational hatred. Now, a player that I hated was Dave McCabe. Did heehaw in a Motherwell jersey and then papped off to the accies. In the first derby after signing for them, the wee prick scores against us at Douglas Park and runs the length of the stand getting right into the faces of the traveling 'Well support. http://www.sportsworldcards.com/ekmps/shops/sportsworld/images/motherwell-dave-mccabe-438-panini-football-90-football-trading-sticker-28154-p.jpg Wee shite!!!

Brian Wright. He was in the midfield when I first started coming to fir park and my auld man developed a really irrational dislike for the big man. He used to rant about how he didn't even look like a footballer.

Really? I know quite a lot of hammers fans and none of them have moaned about Randolph.
-
Crikey, can't say I'm enthused by that lol
-
Are you enthused by the prospect of signing this guy?

Tried to quote, but won't let me???? Ya Bezzer, if it doesn't come off, will you tell us who it was?

I watched Theo Robinson lead the line for Southend yesterday against Charlton. I'm not sure if it was because of Charltons inability to keep a pig oot a close or whether he played well, but he did cause problems.

I've seen similar allowed to stand many times before. Like I said in a post earlier, I think the lino will look back and regret that. I can see why he called it from that angle but with hindsight and a better camera angle, it's apparent that Pearson was not interfering with play. Had the keeper saved it and Pearson scored on the rebound...different story -

Fuck me, we get a battling draw at ibrox and it's still pish!!' Granted a draw is not a win and on another day we could have walked away with three points but we just got a draw at ibrox, turned in a really encouraging battling performance and the gaffer made attacking substitutions. Steelboy, I think it's you that's lost your composure lol -

Not sure if you were watching the same game as me. The only shocking thing is your patter. We had a perfectly good goal disallowed and two wonder saves from their keeper. We play like that for the rest of the season and relegation won't be a worry. -

All too familiar feeling of being robbed!!! The linesman got that very wrong!!! -
It's melt mate. Welt is something on a shoe. Just ask Danny Dyer

It was of course that excellent passing performance and the manner in which Lambert ran the show that got him his big FREE move to Dortmund. Within was it 2 yrs (?) he was a champions league winner!!! That was the quality of our team. The likes of we're unlikely to see again.

If I remember correctly, that midweek rangers game really put us as credible title contenders for the first time. It was that night I really started to think we might just win the league. The St Johnstone game was scunnerin. I remember standing up by the floodlight on the corner of the the terracing and the east stand and a really good crowd in fir park. Also, for that midweek win against the h*n, didn't we wear the new pony strip for the first time replacing the Hummel one? I'm convinced of this. I bloody love that pony kit aswell. http://www.mfc1886.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/782360.jpg Sorry, going off topic again.

Slightly off topic I guess. Are you old enough to remember the final McLean team (and the one big eck destroyed) that finished 3rd and 2nd with the likes of big buff, Rab McKinnon, Paul lambert and TC? That was the best 'well team I've ever seen but having never seen your best team that often (Seldom get to games now due to living down south) it can't fairly compare.

I'm hearing rumours at the valley and on charlton forums that Karl Robinson will be having a mass clear out, has already drawn up his wishlist and is very keen on signing Louis Moult. Louis would excel in league 1 and in my opinion, clubs like charlton or bradford would be a more sensible move like Jamie Murphy has proven. It's a question of money of course and as much as I'd love to get to watch him every other week at the valley, I don't think they'd pay the money we want.

El Grew, a well structured argument. I agree with most of it though not all. Just for my own understanding, in what way was the manner of McGhees departure handled with disgraceful ineptitude as indeed how we have gone about the recruitment of his replacement? I have to agree with Sinjy, I haven't seen anything done by the club or reported by the press as having been done by the club as being shambolic, disgraceful, unprofessional or illegal. I do accept though that there are many who are far more in the know than me. So it's a genuine question.

That's fan power for you.
-
By the time he reached us, not really. We were his last chance. I remember him arriving with a degree of expectation but in reality, i just about remember him as another one off the conveyor belt of Tommy McLean signings. He was forever shipping players in and out.

I've remained silent throughout the entire 'McGhee out' and 'who's next' debates on here, but having read all the comments, I am genuinely surprised by the degree of absurdity freely on display. In pure stoater terms, there's been some amount o' pish getting slavvered. Good luck Robbo. You're going to need it. You're now in charge of a disjointed squad in a relegation battle that has a support that (if this forum is anything to go by) have little or no clue of where the club truly sits in footballs economic and job market and are in the main, never going to be happy with anything you or the club will do. Robbo, you have a tremendous task ahead and despite my open mind, it would appear you're already fucked !!!
