In this league if you only have one 'style' your success will be short lived as other teams will figure it out.

Happens all the time when managers have a good run in one set of fixtures and then when they play teams a second time round they are sussed.  It's one of the biggest reasons why no team, outside the OF, can really put together any kind of consistency.

Also, it's possible to have a base structure and then adapt that depending on what is happening in a match.

That's really the key to being a good manager.  Making intelligent changes in response to the flow of the match.  Not rigidly sticking to one system for 90 minutes every week.

I'm not saying McKinstry should be starting matches, as has rightly been said we are in form right now, but I don't think it's literally impossible for him to play a part in this side.

Manager has been getting points so it's hard to argue with team selection. But who's to say we wouldn't get points with McKinstry playing in this formation. He's never been given the opportunity. To me he's way more than winger. Best player we have. Scored 4 goals when we were playing shit. Always bust a gut for Hamill. Many in our current team threw Hamill under the Bus by not trying.

Tin hat time (do we still say that?).

I definitely don't want to knock McKinstry, and I'm sure he knows better than anyone, but there are still many flaws to his game, ball retention and decision amongst the most obvious. He's still learning his trade after all.

Without doubt he is an exciting prospect, but at this stage of the season, the position we find ourselves in and the formation we have adapted, the bench seems the right place for him at the moment... And provides the management team with an excellent attacking option if and when required.

Just noticed. Auld buggers like me still say Tin Hat LOL. anyway, only in SPFL or Scottish Football would we say that players are still learning their trade at 20. in other countries especially Europe they're in the first team from any age.

Hard to come on when 2 nil down and be expected to turn the game. Ball retention? he's the only player we have that can take a touch and look up.

So you'll drop Spittal, one of our best performers in the last two matches (I'd argue over 180 minutes, he's been the best)?

I like McKinstry and I was puzzled when Hammell was refusing to start him in a 433. But to suggest starting him ahead of Spittal right now is a headscratcher...

Don't know what Hammil was playing at. Twice McKinstry had to come on a half time. 2 nil down both times.  Says a lot about his initial line up.  By the way I never said I'd drop Spittal. He's done well last 2 games with his battling qualities especially after been booed and told to f'k off every game for weeks by our so called fans. Shows great character.  Fans love someone kicking the ball out for a throw in especially when it's a slide tackle. Gets the loudest cheer of the day. I'd always find a space for our best creative players. Hard graft without someone that can do something different only lasts so long.

  5. Most defensive team of the season so far. This will be a real cracker to watch. Kettlewell desperate for the job so making sure it's a real aerial battle. Wee question to the interim manager. Who the f'k is actually going to take a touch on the ball and look up. Dreadful. Fear the worse.

Losing to St Johnstone in midweek was a morale hammer blow. I’m looking at the state of the club and I can’t believe the state we are in.

For the last decade or so I’ve proudly claimed we were the best run wee club in the UK. We punched above our weight in league and cup competitions, we developed great young talent and we fought against our financial limitations to build and rebuild sides season after season to compete. We always seemed to be a place players would thrive, when they left they were a much better version of the player that arrived and we’d benefit from their development.

Off the pitch our social media and fan/community interactions were head and shoulders above any other side. We had club blood running though every aspect of the club and in Alan Burrows we had what every football fan in the world wants, their club ran by one of us. Not just one of us but a Well fan who also happened to be a fantastic Chief Exec.

Now the club is unrecognisable to me. On the pitch no one is thriving, players are all getting worse it’s most obvious when we bring in a new addition. Matt Penney for example, he came in and was levels above, won consecutive POTMs but before he left his form had slumped. Same with McGinn, he came in and was a breath of fresh air but he’s a shadow of the player he was 4-5 months ago. Even Kelly, whom I firmly believe is the best Scottish Goalkeeper, has gone from making world class saves several times a game to the wet paper bag that conceded the second against St Johnstone and the near post shocker against St Mirren. Who’s working hard? Who’s fighting for us or for the manager?

Off the pitch Alan’s stepping down. I’m honestly heartbroken he’s going. No one has done more for our club than Alan in my lifetime. We don’t know why he’s going. I hope it’s because he’s got a massive job offer somewhere but it could be because he doesn’t want to do it anymore, that would kill me. The only way is down from here, we’ll never find another Alan Burrows.

As for our social media/comms we’ve gone from fully engaged with our fan base to KGB levels of secrecy and silence. Even basic information is withheld now. We don’t hear about how long injured players are out for. I went weeks checking team sheets looking for Moult to come back from injury only to find out from Twitter that he was back with Burton. There’s nothing in the pre and post match media, it could literally be the same videos every week. Contrast this period with the month or so before Robbo resigned. Robbo was a broken man, he was killing himself to turn it round and was demented that it wasn’t happening. What do we see from Hammy? He’s ‘disappointed’ and he’s got an itchy forehead. This is the time we need to hear things like he’s given them a bollocking, that he’s going to make changes to the starting 11 or tactics. That they are having them in on their day off for extra training, fucking anything at this point.

everything feels like it’s falling apart and I can’t see how we get out of this.

    Col

Scunnered at the situation within the club. That could've been the reason for Penney's drop in form. Slip it in to midfield and they take that long to decide what to do the momentum is lost. Central defenders should take at the very most 3 touches. 2 normally. Watch ours. Opposition defense is set before they've made their mind up. Look how quick Raith broke.

Lambert turned out pretty shite in bigger clubs in England however he has enough experience, is a big enough character to boot some baws & can surely handle our league. He isnt exactly inspiring in interviews but i would give him a go before goodwin, yogi etc

All this we need a manager to motivate the players. if players look like they need motivated then hunt them to f'k and put the youth team in.

I would think both Goodwin and Ross would be in the picture, If either are appointed it would probably be better to see it as a long term project and retain them even if we go down.

Won't go down. Just have some courage on the ball. Raith played us off the park because they had players that were comfortable on the ball. They did not have better players than us just more confidence. Hot potato stuff in midfield. may lose the odd ball but it's still way better than the lump up the pitch. Get it wide and play ffs.

Sorry but KVV doesn't need bench time, he needs support, the manager hinted at2 up front, then Mandron got injured. So on Wednesday played him up front with no support, plus Kelly firing missiles to 3 Giant centre backs. When Obeka came on was the same, no support, just high balls launched. Give the man support and he will either score or set up one. But ir must be soul destroying getting no support.

And what did he do. Drop the most creative player we have. Twice now. It's no coincidence that we've hardly had a shot not on target but any shot since McKinstry got left out.

I was questioning why SOD was not in the team seeing as we are so short in numbers at the back, but that performance tonight really has me baffled, can someone actually try and play that badly and if so,why?

Players travelled through the night. Down to our bare bones. So I'll drop McKinstry because he actually looks like he could score. F'k off.

I don't believe players would be happy to see their team relegated, simple fact is they aren't good enough.  I just can't believe you haven't got KVV on that list, his attitude is worse than the lot of them

Something absolutely stinks. Who's picking the team. Slattery & Goss? Hammy said players had travelled through the night. So he drops the only player we have that can look up and play a pass and create. Best player we've had all season. That statement (excuse) alone tells me everything and could cost him his job.

As much as it’s great to see the new players I’m pretty disgusted at the dropping of our only two performers lately. Johnson and mckinstry do not deserve getting dropped to the bench.

I'm afraid starting 3 new players all at once exposes the lack of experience Hammy has. As for dropping McKinstry, absolute madness. Only one that looks like scoring last week. Last time McKinstry was sub Hammy had to put him on at half-time and he won Motherwell's man of the match (again). Although that isn't hard these days. As an aside. Did Van Veen have a single shot at St Mirren?

Anyone see the toxicity in the stands at the end of the game yesterday? Hammy straight down the tunnel, I think. Sol marching over to applaud the fans and getting absolute pelters, and then a club official marching onto the park to stop the players coming over to do similar. They all deserve the boos due to their meek, pathetic displays. Not one of them is a leader. As someone else wrote on this forum, we need hard bastards, and Hammel/Kerr and those players are not that.

Days of hard b'stard managers are long gone. Precious players take the huff and down tools. They'll always get another team. That's difficult to manage when you've on money to replace them.  Look at Aberdeen.

It sounds like McKinstry put it on a plate for Mandron. He's stepped up a level in terms of end product since the WC break.

If he can work on his crossing and composure around the box there is a very good player there for us.

He's plenty composure. Always seems to have time on the ball. Both feet. Great signing. Remember when he joined apart from a handful of minutes in Leeds first team he'd only played Under 23's. Almost up to speed now.

He's our go to man for creativity. Midfield don't find him often enough.

Regarding Penney, was it not mentioned that his future would be addressed post County game? He's a player I actually really liked but judging on his last two outings if he feels the need to move on I won't shed a tear.

He's certainly went back the way defensively.

I would agree that from your post there is sense in recruiting the following

    - young players with a point to prove at clubs at a greater level than us (ie Liverpool and Celtic) albeit you will have fans saying we shouldn’t be a breeding ground for competitor clubs

    - players released from clubs bigger than us with a point to prove

    - players from a league standard below us that are deemed the best in that league ie nisbet when he was at Dunfermline going to hibs

given budget constraints to which are pretty tight this season profile of players and their ambition is massive in recruiting players who can make a difference

English National League should be looked at

I've been a dad twice over  in the last 5 years with Covid sandwiched in the middle and life has got in the way of going to Fir Park for a bit. Probably a similar story for some of you. I've therefore not been to Fir Park in about 5 years, with my last post in here in 2017....! Sort of fallen out with football a bit, with mental home life I got a lot more into NFL which is very easy on a Sunday night when the kids are in bed. But, when other plans fell through today I thought fuck it, I'll go back to Fir Park, I know the football won't be great but at least it might be exciting and hopefully I'll catch the bug again just in time for my eldest being old enough to start going maybe next season.

Well, it was absolutely turgid. The weather didn't do a lot to help and I don't think we should underestimate how hard it is to play in those conditions. But this team is one of the worst I've seen, possibly since the days of Tony Vaughan and David Patridge but I remember those two at least having a bit of bite about them. Having literally not been in 5 years here's my thoughts on each player...maybe indiciative of what a prospective new fan might think...

Liam Kelly - made a few very good saves l, was impressed

Solheim and Lamie - I know they get a lot of stick but it was one mistake. Generally they looked ok

Penney - not up to standard

Johnson - reminded me a lot of Paul Quinn. Not the best player but will have a good career

Mcginn, Goss and Spittal - all fairly anonymous which is probably a big issue for creativity although it's hard to be creative in that weather. Get the impression given league position this is a big issue though.

Mckinstry - had high hopes but wasn't impressed...seemed reluctant to take a man on. Keeper should have done better for the goal.

Crankshaw - very fast but didn't seem up to standard

Van Veen - good work for the goal but generally not impressive

In all honesty I'm not itching to get back, sad as it is to say. It's a miserable, pretty negative atmosphere, with a terrible product on the pitch. I'm not sure where I stand with it really!

McKinstry was and is most weeks the only player that has time on the ball. it's like a hot potato with every other player. So it's also a shit goal. Wow. You must be a real laugh at party's.

Lamie kicked the ball into touch twice last week under no pressure. Very low in confidence. it was also more than one mistake against Hibs. Centre back pairing is not working.
