  1. Not sure about the red card decision but it certainly turned the game. United became less expansive as soon as Dixon was off and as such soaked up the pressure we had better and all of a sudden gave themselves and out ball which they didn't have. We did not react to this. We should have been passing the ball from side to side and as high up the pitch as we could manage so they were chasing and wasting energy. This would have tired them out and then we could have had more benefit of Humphrey. By not doing this and allowing them to play it meant that they got a succession of set plays and they are better than us at that and it was no surprise that they scored from one of them. Second goal was a real bit of bad luck. Ruddy seemed in complete control and then the ball seemed to bounce badly in front of them and all of a sudden Bauben had a sitter. To be fair to him he did well in the game of cat and mouse. Of course before the goals we had one disallowed. Crowded box absolutely impossible to tell if it was a good call or not. And then another one right after half time. That goal had it stood would certainly have had them asking questions of themselves. We had a spell then but our atacking just wasn't on it today and from another scuff they broke and scored a game and the game was killed stone dead. With the offside goals and the jammy second one we did not get the breaks today, did not play that badly but to me our tactics were wrong the moment Dixon went off. Houston reacted and Brown did not. And while we were not as bad as 3-0 suggests we were off peak. A good reaction is key now. Don't kid on, next week will be a tough game. In seven games we need to gain fourteen on Hearts - not losing the game between us should be enough! Poor today overall though, after such a good start.

Apart from the year we came third our record v United up there is pretty good. A good place to watch fitba too. Looking forward to it. Should be a good crowd because they're going well too. Much better than their fans feared when Levein left.
  3. They always work on the assumption that the same six make it as previous year. Which is as fair as they can be. Hearts may have to come back to us again, I know that. Point is they are the only team who could push us out the top five so I am wary about wanting them to win.
  4. They are only eight behind and we should be back at Tynecastle after the split. Our record there is not brilliant so that is potentially only five. So NO WAY Hearts are catching us this season is to me blinkered. So aye I think I would have been happier with Hibs getting something today. I know we want to finish as high as we can but finishing in the European places is everything now and Hearts are the only team through the SPL who may stop us.
  5. Maybe I imagined it but was there not also an improvements in the T and Cs of hiring the Cooper and or the Centenary also announced earlier in the season?
  6. And if that is all people have to worry about in their lifes then I would love to be one of them. Think its great that the club are doing something. Its a holiday weekend which means folk who live further afield will have the opportunity to come for free. If folk who fire in £20 for most home games because they can't get a season ticket get a wee reward all well and good. And if folk are reintroduced to the 'Well even better. I agree we'll be lucky to break 5000 well fans but if it brings 20 folk back to the club long term and a wee bit of good press thats excellent. What they need to do is build on it during the close season for next season and encourage folk back on season tickets.
  7. We're close but we're not there. I think the fact that Hearts/St J/Aberdeen have nearly all their games left v the top six should ensure we have done enough because they are all not good enough to string that many results together against good opponents. However if we get 52 points that should sew it up for us. Part of me thinks coming 5th is ideal as it would allow us a run and in all probability a couple of victories. However competitive games in July will lead to a second short close season in a row and Mark Reynolds suffered for that when he went to Canada for those U20s World Cup so I think we aim as high as we can.

    Hearts

Jennings for me. Though you could make arguments for Sutton, O'Brien and Lasley. Don't think the defenders were tested enough defensively to consider them. Not that they did much wrong.
  9. I'm lucky enough I can afford to go every week. However there comes a time you ask if its value for money. Nearly every week Motherwell and Hearts games are finishing 0-0, 1-0 or if you very lucky 2-0. Would you pay £22 to watch a game when one team is incredibly defensive and the other organised? The quality is shit, Hearts' results are shit and it costs a fortune. All things considered the best part of 5k is a remarkable attendance but not because its so small!
  10. I would say that is inconclusive. However both at the time and from that I would say to be fair to the linesman (who was hopeless) that at least it was close. The two against United (Lasley) and Rangers (Forbes) cost us two points each and there were yards in it. Yesterday's, even if it was wrong, does not bother me at all.
  11. True - but they were losing for the whole game! My thoughts were we were magnificent today. Especially in the first twnety minutes when we could have been 4 or 5 nil up. Hearts edged into the game a wee bit more after than but we were still the dominant force. Second half we remained the better team and thoroughly deserved the third goal which was a great hit ad he remained unmarked for about a minute in the build up. Disappointing to lose a goal which was well worked. Hearts made the next wee while nervous because 3-2 would have been squeaky bum time but even so we rode that and again came back to the front foot. On another day it could have been another 6-1 but three points is the main thing and we got that pretty easily. Steven Jennings - already a legend.
  12. Caldwell is a damn fine centre half (home game with France anyone?) but he also has days when he is a one man shambles. In a choice between him and Reynolds - Caldwell every time. Agree with that entirely. Man isn't good enough for Scotland. Berra and Webster both light years ahead of him in ability. If Reynolds gets called up it will be at McManus's expense and to be honest I think I would have Reynolds ahead of him.

    St Mirren

After as much time that was needed to make a tough decision (half a second) I've voted for Jennings. Best player on the pitch.
  14. And more to the point why has it been changed from one who is normally pretty good to one that is a complete tit?
  15. I actually think some folk are being overly negative with the performance. There were periods in that game when we buzzed around that box for a long time and whilst people might argue we were trying to walk it in, the problem was we had nowhere to shoot because St Mirren had bodies everywhere as tends to happen when you play ten men behind the ball like they did for the first 80 minutes of that game. We just lacked that final cutting edge to create 'the chance'. But to say we were not playing to win the game is mince. Their organisation forced us into a slower game than we have seen in some other games but apart from the last ten minutes we coped pretty well and seldom gave the ballaway. Would agree that we did not see Coke and Forbes enough and both were rightly hooked. Dorman did us a favour with his two misses. Not the best stand for seeing the other end but they did look gilt edged. And a good clearance on the line at full time as well. Didn't think Dougie McDonald had a great game tonight. I am one of the few who thought he did exceptionally well in the Old Firm game but he just has too many wrong calls, especially from decisions where two guys jump for the ball. The corner decision right on half time - shocking and he gave us a free kick when Reynolds had someone in a headlock and he gave them a couple, both of which should have been ours (one on Humphrey and one on O'Brien). To his credit though you could see him talking to players on both sides throughout explaining himself and keeping his cards in his pocket. Oh and to the guy who shouted 'Humphrey you're too fucking slow' I think you'll find the pass was too fucking heavy! But you have me a chuckle at the time.
  16. Well all these previous games were a riveting read. Believe he did a 1-0 loss at Tannadice in McGhee's first season when Dods scored and a 2-0 win against Dunfermline when Skippy scored twice in Malpas's season and thats it for him and us.

    St Johnstone

Thought John Sutton was our best defender from set plays and some of the arial chances and our best striker knocking down against Duberry and Gartland. Fantastic display keeping their best players at both ends quiet. Thought Jennings was excellent in the middle, Ruddy made a couple of excellent stops and Jutkiewicz made a huge difference when he came on.
  18. I try and be rational when talking about refs. I thought yesterday's was good as he let the game flow and actually helped it develop and as such there were lots of chances. Everyone moaned about Richmond a few weeks ago when he didn't stop blowing at the Accies game and as such it ended up being a turgid 0-0 battle. If Thomson had done that this game could have been the same. I would accept he missed a few but erring on the side of leniency as long as its done consistently is better than whistle happy cretins we get some weeks. And I thought the boy who did the Hibs game was the same. As for Forbes' yellow card don't get me started! A joke of a decision.
  19. Before Coke it was Quinn at Aberdeen on Nov 29th 2008. We actually did have four red cards last season, DC at Parkhead, Quinn at Killie and Aberdeen and Porter v Hamilton.
  20. Just as well we don't count offside in that stat or it would have been about 30-6. The number of times Murphy was caught off was disgraceful - he is quicker than Gartland and Duberry so there was no need to be offside so often. Overall it was an interesting game with their high attack and us using the channels. Don't think there was really a failure in either side and it really could have gone either way. Saints seemed to be getting the breaks with some free kick decisions and also when the ball ricocheted it always seemed to end up with them. But then the one real break we got when the ball bounced off Smith it ended up at Sutton's foot for a poke home. Three points that we worked ever so hard for, effort deserved them but St Johnstone would have said the samehad they won but we are in some rhthym at the moment and I got the impression we had a wee bit more belief that saw us through. Really pleased with result and performance was decent too.
  21. The T idea is good with the barriers which would probably split the flow of people into the turnstyles. The practicalities at the East Stand are a nightmare and I would imagine the ideal solution would be for the turnstyles to be a further few yards from the road though that is clearly impractical. I don't mind being searched on the way in but we need to do it sensibly in a way that causes as little inconvenience and danger to supporters as possible and Saturday was endangering more folk than preventing danger. The barriers could start much earlier and search folk there or the road could be closed from 230pm to allow easier access. But the club have had this forced on them because some folk cannot behave (however small a minority that is) and as a fanbase we cannot then take the moral highground.

    Jim O'brien

That is marginally harsh Frazzle. He had a few decent ones in the first half but in the second half he seemed to be aiming for wee Jimmy in row L of the Cooper. But you're generally correct he is worth working on though I think the impact sub role suits him better.
  23. Only complaint was that we should have scored more. Killie were awful which is not our problem and once we did score I had little doubt we would win. Though their record of last minute goals at Fir Park is unreal so that corner shortened the nails a bit. No real controversy to comment on.
  24. Was a borderline decision, was either going to be a harsh red or a lenient yellow. With the benefit of seeing it again, if I was referee I'd have given him a yellow. That said I don't really criticise Norris for picking red. I applaud him for letting the panel have a look at it - would have been easy to say he was right and uphold the ban.
  25. Quite right - we'd want a free week if we were there so if we can move stuff around so they can then that's fair play.
