I wouldn't object to Jimmy Calderwood being given the job just now, he is a proven top flight manager and he would sort out our defence. Derek Adams though gives me the fear.

Whoever it is it must NOT be an internal appointment, ie. Leitch, Black, Johansson etc. We as a club now need to show some imagination and vision and get the right man in to the hot seat. That right man does not currently work at Fir Park!

. Best decision that McCall has made since he's been at Fir Park and I for one respect him for walking away instead of hanging out for a payoff. Over to you now Motherwell FC, make the right appointment.-

The day that Motherwell FC cease to exist in it's current form is the day I give up on football. I really doubt I could even bring myself to support a Sevco style reincarnation of Motherwell FC either.

Thats the last 4 games we've come up against teams who were really struggling for form and we've been pretty much comfortably despatched by all of them. Its the same dross being spouted by a manager who is clearly devoid of ideas on how to get a completely lopsided squad winning again. Just as i was typing this out i just seen the 2nd goal on the news

Unless we have a change of manager ASAP then we are going down. McCall OUT.
Both sides have been poor but we nearly got away with a 1-0 lead at HT before normal service resumed thanks to our non existent midfield.
Fully expecting a defeat here.

With this latest development then a Scottish Cup run this season is now more important than ever, especially as the club have expressed openly their anticipation of more financial losses this season due to poor league form. However with our cup record under McCall then a decent run would seem unlikely to say they very least.

We are an absolute shambles from top to bottom, a sinking ship. Completely agree with the above calls for a complete overhaul of staff at all levels within the club and, perhaps more importantly, transparency. Quite how we managed to get ourselves in this mess after our hugely impressive league performances since the turn of the decade plus a Scottish Cup Final appearance is absolutely staggering. Administration is not too far away by the looks of things.

Where you're argument falls down is that this summer, leading on to our current horrendous situation, was probably the most settled the team has been. Losing 3 players Hutch, Annier and Faddy, only 1 of whom was a nailed on starter, was the best summer we have had in years in terms of outgoings.
Yes but you have to take into account that we have lost key players to injury on a good few occasions this season, leading in us having to chop and change, play players out of position and look out of sorts. Hardly a sign of a settled squad surely?
And don't forget that three of the men handed new contracts by McCall in the summer - Lasley, Hammell and McManus - are all a year older and have naturally lost a few yards since last season.
There were posters chugging the head off it desperate for a cup run at the expense of a good league placing...i would take 2nd/3rd any day of the week...but anyway..looking forward to visiring Palmerston etc next season
I saw many posters, myself included, stating that they'd trade a European placed finish for a mid table or bottom six finish in exchange for a Cup win.
I saw no one saying that they'd take relegation/relegation battle - and make no mistake, that's what we are in here - for a Cup run or even a Cup win.

Well I do see where you are coming from with that. Surely any manager who guides Motherwell FC to 3rd, 2nd and 2nd again must be doing something right? And indeed he obviously has and I hand on heart cannot deny that Stuart McCall has done well for us during his tenure.
But if you take a step back and look at the bigger picture here then you cannot fail to see that McCall has also had his fair share, indeed, more than his fair share of good luck during that time.
Last season we were poor throughout and won many games that we probably didn't deserve to or barely deserved to win as the football was awful throughout but somehow we eeked out one goal victories by the skin of our teeth on several occasions...think Pittodrie last game of the season, both Thistle games at home, Ross County, Inverness at home when Billy McKay's shot hit the post....And the previous two seasons we had the 'best of the rest' in terms of player quality and while I do not for one minute decry our high league finishes, we have always had the benefit of a settled squad and a generous helping of luck to keep us ticking over during that time.
McCall seems to be a manager who places emphasis on a squad which is settled and content for the present time, rather than on tactics and/or discipline and building for the future - his poor performance in the summer transfer windows of 2013 and 2014 and his non youth policy are evidence of this in my view.
There was always going to come a time when we werent so fortunate with injuries and struggled at the wrong end of the table and it seems that McCall has no answer to it. Its one thing keeping a settled, injury free squad ticking along but its another thing altogether to have to have them fired up for a battle with their backs to the wall every week. Unfortunately McCall demonstrated, even when we had a good settled side, that he couldn't get them to roll up their sleeves for important Cup ties and now that problem has seeped into our league games.

We're already out of the league cup at the first hurdle - again - and I see no reason why we won't do the same in the Scottish Cup so I don't think there's much danger of a Cup run to make up for a shite league season. This squad and manager have proved time and again that they are not able to raise their game when we need to in crucial games such as Cup ties, because to be a good cup team you need to roll up your sleeves and battle for it, wanting to win more than the opposition do but we can't do this. And now, frighteningly we find ourselves in a relegatin dogfight where in order to survive the drop, we're going to have to play every game as if it's a Cup tie but on the evidence so far, we just don't have any fight in us and that's something we're going to need. A bit of direction and tactical awareness from our manager would be helpful too.
Were getting what we deserve with all this talk were a wee team" punching above our weight for so long", if you say it enough people believe it as do the players, manager etc.
Who's saying Hamilton are a wee crap team punching above there weight not heard a word spoken like that about them its all about the young players they bring through sell on and make money.
As has been said before there's more wrong than just McCall, when we were doing well last year we should be biging our self up not like we seem to have been for years, just thankful to be playing in the big league!
This is a problem that we as a club have had for as long as I can remember and exists from the boardroom to the support. I firmly lay the blame for our inability to negotiate good deals for our key players in the transfer market and also for our repeated failures in Cup matches at the door of this attitude.
Whilst other clubs are talking up their best players we are talking ours down with the apparent best they can achieve is a move to the lower leagues of England, like we did with Murphy, Randolph etc...before we accept the first miserly bid for them.
And repeated Cup failures are simply shrugged off because "we ain't Barcelona" when such losses as our three Aberdeen debacles, Sevco, Albion Rovers and Stjarnan should have seen serious criticism from within the club and in the cases of Albion Rovers, heads rolling!

The concern for me MJC is that if the club is as rudderless as it looks from the outside, candidates may not want the job. Appreciate a lot is hopefully going on in the background at the moment but any decent candidate needs to have confidence in where we are heading. There appears to be a distinct lack of leadership in the absence of Dempster.
Indeed, and that's why I have a horrible and strong suspicion that if and when McCall leaves that his replacement will be Kenny Black or Scott Leitch as the job won't appear attractive to outsiders and it would be cheap and easy to just promote one of them into the hotseat as was done when Dempster moved on.

Hearts are well on the way and Hibs will get there eventually. How many of us actually believe Motherwell would have the same outlook following relegation.

Butcher isn't the answer, look what he did with Hibs last season. And he, like McCall is very weak tactically so that's a no for me. I would go for someone like Jimmy Calderwood, a proven, seasoned SPL manager who has a bit of tactical nous about him, possibly only as a short term fix to get us out of this mess but as I said, that's what we need right now.

Change required although as I've said repeatedly, the issues run much deeper than McCall. Time to bring forward this announcement regarding failure of Well Society and future investment model.
I wouldn't imagine the media will give us much attention as none of them care less about us, Andy Devlin and Tam Cowan apart and the latter has already made it clear that he won't call for change unless/until we are relegated. You are absolutely correct in saying that our problems run much deeper than McCall but the way I see it is that he has no idea how to pull us out of this mess and get us to fight tooth and nail - something he's never really had to do since he's been here - and his tactics and set ups this season have been baffling at times, even by his standards. We WILL be relegated unless we have a change of manager asap in my view! It may only be a quick fix to our problems, but if we can get someone in who can put rockets up backsides, shake that lackadaisical bunch out of their comfort zones and make the best of the squad we have then that might save us from the drop, which lets face it would be catastrophic for us just now.

The Happy Clappers can Happy Clap all they like but the cold, hard facts are that we are struggling badly at the wrong end of the table, having won only twice in the SPFL all season with a squad devoid of confidence, belief and even basic fitness. All of which I put down to the manager. Unless there are drastic changes then we are going down.

Title says it all.
A dreadful line up, yet again, another shocking start to a game and we're staring yet another defeat in the face.
We need to replace McCall before we are relegated - which we will be on current form.
MERGED: That 10 page discussion on the manager slip you by? Or did you just have to eek out that extra wee bit of drama?

I'm not sorry to see McCall go, I never rated him and never hid that view on here and the time was most definitely right for a change. However I do admit that that post you quoted was poor from me, especially making it out as some sort of victory which of course it's not and also by saying that it was his best decision since he's been here. Whatever anyone thinks of McCall, his league record with us was superb, despite his faults. So yes, it was ignorant and in poor taste. I wish McCall well for the future.
