  1. Every one a potential banana skin and each have enough about them to make life difficult for us. Without any disrespect you have to hope the lowest level team at home would offer the best chance of progression so it would have to be Brechin City at home.
  2. A situation that I'm perhaps not privvy to, or have missed? Hence the question mark Then the attempt to answer the ESA's question and point him in the direction of the thread. I do beg your pardon...
  3. In the context of an Ins and Outs thread. What situation? If you mean his non-selection, there was a thread about him recently where the upshot of it was, that he wasn't being selected because there are others ahead of him in the queue and given the importance of the games being played!! No more, no less.
  4. I seem to be in the minority here but I don't think it was quite as miserable as is being painted. I take the view that when it comes to Old Firm games its about sneaking points. The style in which we manage to do that I'm not overly fussed. I've seen enough games where we've been absolutely sensational yet come out of it with fuck all so I'm not going to be overly negative or harsh on them when we've not played well yet its still taken a large helping hand from a referee to undo us. Aye Celtic got pumped in Europe too but they have resources and capabilities far beyond our means and whilst we're not a bad a team by any manner of means it doesn't guarantee we're always going to reach a certain level of performance. It rankles more the manner of the defeat. You almost knew what the end result was going to be before Maloney even got into the box. Haven't seen a replay as yet but Brown has rightly questioned McDonald's positioning which must have been around 30 yards behind play and there also appeared to be a further covering defender so the red card was rubbing our nose in it. It's been a disappointing and morale sapping few days but hopefully if Brown can get a couple more in, as he said he was hopeful of doing on the radio, then there's still a decent season for us to be had I believe.

  6. It's impossible to tell as you just don't know what the circumstances will be at the time of the next appointment so in a sense its a bit of a pointless debate. You just don't know what the finances will be like, will we be able to chase a manager we want or be financially restricted to appointing from within or someone out of a job? Will there be a desire amongst the board to go with experience again or give someone their first job? Will the appointment be forced upon us or will we have time to plan for the appointment? I just think there are so many variables its not really worth putting up any candidates at this stage. Certainly no bad thing though that Gordon Young is gaining experience working along with the 1st team as well as his vital youth development duties, if it does provide another option when the time comes - but more importantly if he, the players and the existing coaching team are benefiting from his involvement currently.
  7. I don't think there's any harm at all in hoping for an increase in support based on turnouts like last night. It crops occasionally, not as often as the crucial pricing debates mind you, but it does crop up now and again as how we might capitalise and encourage more to come back be they lapsed supporters, only occasional visitors or undecided potential fans of the future. There are rafts of ideas on previous threads so I won't go into them, but given we've had to give names and addresses for buying these European tickets I would like to think that there should be a database of them somewhere at Fir Park where they could be contacted at semi-regular intervals by the club and encouraged to maintain or step-up their support of the club. I fear that the manpower at the club will prevent that happening but to me its an opportunity in waiting for those at MFC. I also think there's an element of responsibility that rests on our shoulders as existing supporters to encourage, cajole, drag along folk in the hope they take up the Dossers. That can often mean some sacrifices if you have to pay in younger family relatives or friends and could mean you foregoing a couple of beers etc but from personal experience I know that encouragement and welcoming into the Motherwell fold can be the difference between someone choosing to support MFC, going to the dark side or even being a fitba fan who never actually goes to any games.

    Odense 2nd Leg

Seems a bit inconsistent to me to read some absolving a 20 year old Jamie Murphy with about 100 appearances to his name for missing from 11 yards but willing to hang out to dry a 20 year old Nick Blackman with about a quarter of his experience for missing about 8 yards. Their chances were both equally important and game changing chances but to hold it against one and not the other seems unfair. I'm not quite getting how Jim Gannon's stock has risen either. I agree that there were changes that could have been made - at one point I turned to my mate and mooted Forbes for either Lasley or Hateley, or even fired Hutchinson up as a target man given we were firing loads into the box. But I don't see where JG's noted acumen for positional changes and willingness to switch comes in on this occasion given were actually playing pretty well and were largely dominating the game. For me it ultimately boiled down to our strikers failing to take gilt edged opportunities rather than any formation or matters of personnel. Oh and I'm still struggling to pick a MOTM between Murph, Humph and Saunders.
  9. Deflated. Don't think there was two goals between the teams over the two legs and the opportunity we had to get through is going to rankle for a good while. Fuck me, pop in that penalty and you are looking at 5-10 minutes to get a goal against nine men and potentially another 30 minutes against nine men after that.... I can't fault them for effort, application and spirit mind you. I'm proud of the team's efforts over this Euro campaign and with just a little more luck and clinical finishing and it could so easily have been us going through to the Group Stages. Fine margins again with Murph's lob bouncing just the wrong side of the post, Blackman's header when it seemed easier just to hammer it and Murphy's penalty just a yard the other way... Sounds like a typical if's, but's and maybe's from a Scottish side's exit in Europe but I still think we weren't far and that's what's going to hurt. On to the league now - so we can get right back into Europe again next season. Mon the fuckin' Dossers!!!

  11. Asked my Airdrie mate his opinion on him when word broke of our apparent interest and he considers him to be one of the finest players to have served them in a good number of years. He reckons he would be a great signing for us. His Airdrieness perhaps slightly skewed my opinion of him, thinking to games gone by I recollect considering him as something a luxury player or one that comes into things when the hard-work is done. Obviously clean slate if he does come here.
  12. Maybe worth reminding folk that according to the initial statement on the 'fishel, phone and online bookings are only available to mid-day tomorrow.
  13. Not that I necessarily agree with the posters point of view but I would suspect its much less sinister than is implied above. I'm guessing its no more than a combination of fearing that whenever Motherwell get a bigger than normal crowd behind them things often go awry and having a smaller crowd of committed fans may be more helpful to the team than a full house where more of them are more indifferent in their support.

  15. Come on, so much to be excited about the performance and result tonight. Let's not get embroiled in an argument about an incident none of us as yet know anything about and concentrate on the fitba. Mon the 'Well!!

  17. No actually. Old man has been gripped by Euro favour and will be making a rare trip up from darkest Culzean. First time I've ever used it, and it worked a treat. Was able to get in, get a seat in our vicinity, paid and got email confirmation all within a couple of minutes.
  18. The time passing has clouded my memory of much of the in's and outs but it could well be the administration process has yet to be fully completed, which is why Forrest may consider himself due further monies from MFC. Periodically since we came out of administration shareholders have had letters from PKF advising on any outstanding matters and certainly as recently as the court case attempting to recoup money from John Spencer the process hadn't been concluded as letters were still coming from PKF. Over and above the agreement reached for however many pence in the pound it was, there was a commitment that money from the Spencer case would go to creditors (I can't actually remember if transfer money from the sales of Faddy and Pearson were included) and wee did get some grace to install undersoil heating in first time around which could have added to the delays in things reaching a conclusion. That's a fair and measured analysis I think. My recollection was that there was a fair degree of sympathy for all concerned at the time, albeit the over-riding concern was the survival of the club itself. And this was where the sympathy began to dry up. There was an understanding that the players were shafted. It seemed however that they couldn't comprehend that in paying up what they were due and not taking the course MFC did, that there would be no MFC and they would ultimately end up with less than what they got. Eight years later and Forrest still doesn't seem to realise it. It appears to me that several of these players, in particular Forrest and Dow cling on to being released by Motherwell as an excuse for their career failings. Again I would agree with that completely. Its to the club's credit that not only have they come through administration but we do actually appear to have learned from it.
  19. I'm sure I remember speaking to you in Hartlepool many moons ago. Englandshire's in Europe, even if it was a friendly. Hoodoo burst I'd say!
  20. Quite a lot of options for parking if you are down sharp enough. Close by there's Dundonald Road. It gets coned off close to the junction of South Hamilton Street and Dundonald Road but if you keep heading towards the town centre you should be all right. Again if you head along Dundonald Road theres a wee side street that you can nick into and get parked on and can then walk through to come out close to Rugby Road where our end is. On Portland Road there's a wee car park between the town centre and the ground, though you might have to pay to use that and further away again you've got both a Morrisons and Tesco if you want to take the chance in there.
  21. That being the case then hopefully a little complacency may set in which we may be able to take advantage of. In keeping with our previous European opponents I really don't know what level Odense are at and how far ahead of us they may be. I do know that as far as we're concerned though we do have one of the most experienced and streetwise managerial duos about who will be versed about what they are all about and will hopefully have a game plan to deal with them. We also have a team that have proven themselves capable of nicking a vital away goal. Nervous, excited and a little apprehensive without doubt, but I'm not for writing us off just yet.

Fair do's. I'd concede that it could be a tricky to find one particular stand-out but I'd argue that was far removed from what I'd term as a shocking performance and think you're being a wee bit harsh on them today.

If that's your definition of shocking performance then dear God, what would you term the 3-0 to Airdrie's, 5-1 to Livi's, 3-0 to Thistle's, 4-2 to Hamilton's, 6-1 to Hibs' etc etc that we've had......
