  1. Would he go to Aberdeen if offered the job? Who knows. He would have more money to play with I reckon but the expectation level would be up a few notches likewise. I do think that a few sides are going to be losing some important players in the next few weeks so there are some rebuilding jobs going to be taking place at several SPL sides so I'm not quite sure whether from his perspective it might be better to stay put, given the security the Motherwell job offers him or whether to take that "step up" he decided against last summer. Interesting one.
  2. For me, that's almost the complete opposite of how I remember Brian Kerr. A player who had the talent and ability but who seemed to lack the will and desire to get on the ball and impose himself on proceedings on any kind of regular basis the way a player with his capability could have.

  4. Not really been much chat about the actual game, though not much of a surprise I suppose given its lack of importance and err....we got beat! I thought we started quite well and were playing, or at least attempting to play some nice stuff. Despite that we never really created anything - I'm struggling to think of anything other than Sheridan ballooning over and we got suckered with a well-worked breakaway Killie goal, though our defence seemed to allow them acres of space. After that I thought we still held the upper hand, though Killie continued to threaten on the break and our equaliser was no less than we deserved. Hoped we could go on and get the win after levelling but it wasn't to be. Again another neatly worked goal from Killie, with further questionable defending. Bit disappointing to end with a defeat but suppose it doesn't mean too much in the grand-scheme of things.
  5. To be honest I'm not so fussed about the loanees or non-committers getting a game. I know there's a feeling that the loanees aren't "our" players and we should be preparing for the eventuality that the non-committers move on, but while they are on the payroll, I think we should consider all the options at our disposal. That said I had been hoping for one or two of the younger members of the squad to get a run out today so that was quite disappointing. I thought Hutchinson didn't deserve to be dropped after an excellent display last week and the eagerness of both Slane and McHugh in the games before that had whetted the appetite. At home, with nothing at stake, then why not?

    Your thoughts......
  7. Can only echo the above above the stewarding in the South Stand. Truly embarassing stuff watching on from the East Stand. How many visiting away fans have they cost us next time Kilmarnock are in town with the handling of the Killie support? See the worst of it though, is that it all stemmed from their own actions. From a situation where you had a group of 50 folk having a carry on they managed to sufficiently wind up enough people that you had the entire Killie support on their feet and folk in the East too. As for the "Wall of Steel" at full-time, Dear God! Sure I spotted Waynetta Slob in front of the East Stand and some looked like folk who had been making their way for an afternoon game of dominos in a retirement home who had been bundled into a van, dragged to Fir Park and made to wear a yellow bib. Not a good reflection on the club whatsoever.
  8. Without wanting to burst the Kevin Kyle bubble they've managed to beat twice without his services this season. I think it'll come down to who wants it more given that neither the two of us have anything to play for. I read that Combe has delayed an operation to see out the season, which given that they are now safe, perhaps suggests they haven't chucked it yet either. It would be nice to beat them, given that they've taken 7 from 9 from us but a bit like Accies and Caley before that as long as we avoid defeat I won't be too fussed. If McGhee is going to go with the tried and trusted from the start I would hope he'll give Slane, McHugh and possibly Hutchinson a run out at some time during the match.
  9. Seems like a fair compromise to me. It's cheaper than the standard price but no so much of a reduction that should get season ticket holders hot and bothered.

    Well Worth It!

Got my renewals sorted but if it was me unless you're heading along at opening time I would be a bit wary about renewing on Saturday morning near kick-off time. Past experience trying to get tickets for the St Mirren replay has really put me off trying to get tickets sorted pre-match. That day for no apparent reason PC Plod decided to call a halt with no more than half a dozen in a queue. I would hope the club will make the police aware of their plans to sell tickets so they won't but I don't have much confidence in them not doing the same at a whim on Saturday. Also given that the club want people to fill out forms for every ticket purchased (there are bundles inside the ticket office incidently) it might be useful if MFC have someone on hand outside the ticket office to distribute the forms with pens to those who perhaps didn't get a letter or are first time buyers. If the weather's good they might also want to get a table set up so folk can get themselves sorted and save getting to the front of the queue and start form filling.
  11. Disagree a bit there. I always thought Brown was as every bit erratic as Stevie Woods in his time in the side. What he did have on his side was his youth and the potential to go on and become a goalie of some repute - which he has gone on to do. But I didn't think there was much between them at that point. Like you though Milo, though I'm not sure if he would contemplate coming back while John Boyle's still around, I wouldn't be against him returning either. While its neither here nor there as regards Brown I'd also say that Woods got dropped loads times during his time at Motherwell. Look at the keepers who came and went - I can think of Brown, Kaven, Howie, Goram and Dubordeaux that competed with Woods.
  12. I'm one of the older school who remember pre-season's as part of the season ticket package. Whilst I would still prefer that it remained so, even if I have to pay to see a game at Fir Park I'm still a sucker and will do so even if it is a pre-season. I think there's a balance to be struck though. Its fairly obvious that a Premiership team aren't just going to come and play us out of the goodness of their heart and there will be costs incurred in attracting them to Motherwell. So long as the admission isn't overly excessive then I'm happy enough at that. I'd personally hope for 2 home games per pre-season and a tenner a pop for those would seem reasonable to me. Any more than that then I would hope the club would be a bit more creative for example using last year as an example they could have offered the 3 friendlies for £25 say offering a fiver of a saving.

Everything to do with the warm welcome received from the award winning Fir Park media people, McGhee's scintillating footballing side and absolutely nothing to do with the fact the 2 other bottom six games are already on live and the rest of the games are the following day, I'm sure....
  14. I think you are right in that UEFA allow it in certain instances, but obviously there's a time factor involved in them digging up their existing surface and laying an artificial surface - that was more my point.
  15. Thought Airdrie were getting an artificial pitch installed over the summer?
  16. I think there's a lot more to come from him too - though whether that'll be at Fir Park or Parkhead remains to be seen. There have been flashes of what he's capable during his time with us but he's miles away from being anything like the finished article. I wouldn't be against a season long loan deal for him if we could get him on that.
  17. Congrats. Don't suppose he's a relation to Rab McKinnon seeing as he appears to be a fellow gingger and all?
  18. I'm also of a mind that if it happens it'll be fantastic but if not then I won't be gutted in the same manner as if someone had denied us a place by beating us in the last game or whatever. How much of that is down to the fact I'm unlikely to get to the away leg of our first tie in the comepetition (he said positively) I don't know. Whether its good for the club if we do get in remains to be seen. I had always been against the idea of going into the Intertoto because of the early start but I suppose Hibs have shown that you can start earlier and still have a half-decent season - I mean they seem more on form now at the close of the season against top six teams than they did at part earlier in the season. I also think its a factor that, I think it was Neil who posted it earlier in the thread, that the round we would go into is only a week different from that which we would have done finishing 4th or 5th. Had that been the case and I don't think when we started would even have come into many folks thinking but because its through the fair play route some more moral questions have muddied the waters a bit and the pros and cons examined more closely.
  19. Your top man in the "lets put the Accies in their place" romp.......
  20. I tend not to be get involved too much in the "What team would you play" debates but it will be interesting to see what team McGhee picks today. Obviously Reynolds is out and I haven't heard anything suggesting Craigan is fit. Looked to me that Lasley was went off with a knock on Wednesday - he certainly went up the tunnel pretty quickly after going off - and Fizzy took a late knock so that could complicate things further. Does he throw in Hutchinson alongside McLean or slot Maros back in alongside McLean? Those would seem to the easiest ways to fill the position without too much shifting of other players, but ofcourse we know McGhee's hardly averse to doing that. You've also got the option of putting Quinn into the middle with Lasley at right-back or even Saunders who has experience of playing against Accies. You see now why I tend not to get involved in trying to predict the team now eh. So much pondering over so little In terms of the game, hoping for a similar display to last week seeing as we'll be on a better surface again, though I don't see them being as lacking in fight as St Mirren appeared to be. Obviously want to win, though wouldn't be overly upset as long as we avoid defeat.
  21. As I see it the new stadium will come be it sooner or later when the financial situation is right. I don't doubt for a second that planning is already afoot however early or late in the planning that might be. In the meantime though we should look harness Fir Park as it stands to our advantage as much as we possibly can. I don't really see what opposition fans have to gripe about too much - a overpriced plastic seat behind the goal is surely the same in a 15 year old stand at Motherwell as it is in a 15 week old stand in Paisley or Kilmarnock or wherever. But if opposition players don't like coming to Motherwell because its a perceived as a hole - then great!! I love the girning the do about our pitch for example - coincidence that since this blew up we've lost only one game at home in about 5 months? If the fact our modest dressing room facilities aren't quite what they are used to in more modern stadia puts them off then good. If monkeys like McGeady, McCarthy and Broadfoot get put off their game because the East Stand is right on top of them and right in their face, then fucking fantastic. Savour the old place while we can and use the current state of Fir Park in as positive a manner as we can for as long as we can.

I can't say for certain about when each shirt was released but there were several of our Xara designs that were that were sported across the country. Off the top of my head I remember Ross County and St Johnstone wearing a dark blue/blue version of our all amber top/no band around the Stuart Elliot era and the Tractor Driving bams even used to the design of the competition MFC ran for the kit for the Malpas season. I just couldn't say for certain that we hadn't been passed off something that been worn by a Tranmere or a Cardiff the season before.

I can't remember if it was on here or for the programme a few weeks back but I remember writing much the same. The split has changed perceptions of success and failure for middle ranking teams. Clearly if you are going for the title or europe or are fighting for your lives the split isn't going to mean that much at all but if you a team that's 7th or 8th and have missed out on the top half, then there are some who view that as failure. Fifteen years you might still have been playing out 4 or 5 meaningless end of season games but folk just carried on watching them anyway without giving it much thought. Now it seems like you've failed and some don't want to be associated with that.

Pleased not to have lost obviously and if that's 7th place secured then, well that's good too. Bit of a topsy-turvy game. Thought they were right up for it at the start without ever being threatening before we scored and suddenly we looked right in command. Then out of the blue Caley score, look much the better in the second half, deservedly get in front and suddenly the roles are reversed and having looked clueless for much of the 2nd half, we get a goal. Not many you could really say were on top of their game for us. Several played half-decent in patches, some were pretty anonymous. Hope we can up our game a bit for the derby on Saturday.
