Just merging the two topics.
As you point out Craigan has been a standout for us since at least December, and it is not just Clarky that helped us get that run of games that seen us go from bottom to a bawhair away from top six this year but Craigan as well. Saying that Gannon knows what he is doing, and I'm sure Craigan will talk with him and admit he could have done better himself.
Where did I say O'Brien and commitment for the team? I was talking about McGarry, who last night covered more territory in the first half than any other midfielder in the team, always looking for the ball and never shied away unlike the person he took over from in the second half! Not bad for the worst midfielder in the side... not forgetting him receiving a sore one very early on.
I think we won't play much better but I see the youngsters like Forbes, Slane and McHugh (and maybe even McGarry, Fizzy etc. if they play) shooting on sight and I think we'll win at a relatively easy pace. Lets face it, playing 4-2-3-1 and trying to cross the ball into Sutton and eh... no one... doesn't work. Shoot on sight.
Lets face it all they did (when not time wasting - how long was the ball actually "in play for" last night?) was scare the shit out of us fans with every throw and scored from a corner which to be honest, I doubt in the end when we think about it is not really surprising!
I notice you mention O'Brien has his fans. It seems Lasley does too. I know you mentioned before Christmas but what has what a player done over 7 months ago got to do why they should be in our squad this season?
So to sum it up
You're binning a keeper after one game. Our two most dangerous players going forward (Hammell and O'Brien), a player that looked interested and actually you could tell was wanting to do their best for Motherwell (McGarry), a striker that will bag at least 10 goals a season (Sutton) but you're keeping a midfielder that cant pass, can't trap a ball, and trips over his own feet.... (going on the reaction of last night)?
Yes and it wasn't Monday. It was the day of the draw when the list had to be in. The next Squad (if we make it past Llanelli) requires to be submitted by 11pm on 10 July 2009. Although we have one wild card transfer available for First Qualifier Round by 11pm tonight if I read the regulations right.
I think it will be a wee tough encounter but I think we'll be too good, just, for them. 2-1, with Sutton hitting a double then it will be a few panic posts after the game due to their away goal.
I have edited the topic title to make this the 'fishal match thread
Do you mean Turner? Everton Keeper who has won cap at Under 21 level for Scotland and featured in a couple of squads. Came in a few times at Everton and had one howler of a game if I remember right. Cost them a goal and got sent off - I think.
Decent keeper and would be shocked if we rejected him!
Aye per round for the Qualifiers. I'm sure Keepers are of course not included as I think UEFA require three keepers in the named squad. Means you can't swap a keeper (in our case Meldrum maybe) for an outfield player in the squad.
The good news is, we do not have the worry of falling foul of the Home Grown and National player Rules
Not really... Out of them all I think Gannon has everything we need. Plays good football, doesn't take any shit. Not to mention we have had fans from Stockport praise him, we have had fans from Fulham saying no matter what don't get Sanchez! Staunton's club record is zero while his International record see his side have five smashed past them by Cyprus.
To me and it seems many on here he ticks all the right boxes with regards to what is needed to manage Motherwell Football Club.
