  1. Quite a few of our players had below par games and without Bigi we struggled in central midfield. The first 15 mins we were getting nowhere near them and could have been 2 or 3 down but the rest of it was much better and pretty even.Hard to tell from one game but i thought we looked a better side allround than last season, Rangers should finish second with that team but we were well in it right til the end.

Oh and whatever the club did to stop them getting in our end didn't work, there were at least a few dozen in the middle section of the pod stand.Heard there was some fighting after the game too.

  2. Someone who's done it at a decent level probably has better offers than us.I'd be happy enough with what we have at the back now, i reckon kipre could turn out to be our best signing and if McManus is fit he's still a decent mid table cb.If we can only make one more signing it has to be a forward, if Moult goals whatever combination of forwards we currently have won't score as many as our front 2 last season so we need a decent forward even if its on loan.

  3. If we got a swap for Jones that would be a decent deal, he was one of their better players in the latter part of last season and was it not him who ran the first half against us in the last home game.

  4. Scottish teams have still had pish results when they were well into a season and it won't help at all when we're playing decent teams, Odense, Nancy etc.It might help for the odd game against teams that are already into their season but i can't see it making any difference in the 3rd game or playoff when our teams could be playing somebody from Portugal, holland, France etc.

  5. If someone is consistantly shite in every friendly then it would be a concern but this was the first game obviously some players will take a while to get up to their usual standard, that's the whole point of friendlies.

  6. Sorry Maxywell, I just don't think that we are much or any better than Oldham of last season.

I watch more League 1 and SPL than any other football and IMHO the SPL is not a step up on league 1. Granted, it's a different style of game and often in both leagues, the standard of "football" on display is turgid. I think it's the difference in style that determines whether a player makes it in either league or not.

It's a fact that some non league teams have greater financial clout than us and it's also a fact that many league 1 and 2 teams live on extremely restricted budgets. That's the three tiers of English football we have to compete with in the transfer market.

I'm quite enthused by our signings this summer.

Hopefully this season we will turn the corner but in truth, with that defence and midfield, had Motherwell been in league 1 last season, we would most likely have been relegated.

I'm not meaning to be controversial, just an observation as a league 1 regular.

Celtic would have won league 1 easily, Rangers and Aberdeen would probably have won it too.For us that might be about our level financially but i reckon if you offered most players the same wage for a mid table league 1 team or a mid table spfl team they'd rather go to the latter where they have a chance of playing against 2 of the biggest teams in europe, possibly winning a cup or playing european football or just generally being more watched and probably being more likely to get a move to a championship team. The spfl overall is shite compared to the epl and even the championship but i've seen a fair amount of lower division games and there's a big drop off after that.

  7. Weeyin he might well have looked a decent player at Oldham but i think most on here would say we're probably better than them, for players coming from mid table league one or below teams the spfl is a step up and one that plenty haven't been able to make.

  8. That positive could easily turn out to be negative with 2 of those 4 games being ones we lost last season and could easily lose again, of those first 5 games we'll only be favourites in 2 of them.

  9. He's been playing mostly in better leagues than ours and often as a sub so i wouldn't look into his club stats too much and his international record is decent. If we signed him he'd get 15+ easily if he stayed fit but it's not going to happen.
