Bit of chat from Stevie today...... Hammell hoping for new Well deal Defender Steven Hammell is aiming to retain his place in the Motherwell team to ensure he secures a new contract at Fir Park. The full-back is closing in on 400 appearances for the club and wants to mark the milestone by signing a new deal with the SPL outfit. He returned to Motherwell for his second stint in January 2008 following 18 months at Southend and is keen to stay with Jim Gannon's side. "It's a lot of games, but hopefully I'll play most of the matches this season and make the 400," said Hammell in the Daily Record. "I don't imagine many players will have done that. "I'm in the last year of my contract, so need to stay in the team and stay fit." The 27-year-old also harbours ambitions of breaking back into the Scotland squad five years after winning his solitary cap against Sweden. Hammell played in the B international against Northern Ireland earlier this year and hopes he can earn a call-up to George Burley's senior squad. He added: "I'll keep my head down, try to play my best for Motherwell, and hopefully the Scotland call will come along."

That Forbes strike is just something else. Every time you look at it just gets better and better.

I'm surprised JIm O'Brien is still in the one piece at the moment. He's been getting kicked up and down the park in virtually every game we've played this season, right decision to get him off before someone else finished what Proctor started.

On the subject of Ins and Outs, one of our outs from last season I've just watched is Mugger Malcolm and he was doing his usual, as the commentator put it, "sleeping" and being ripped apart to concede a very soft goal indeed. Chunky Miller was strutting about as well and quite literally standing watching play going on around him. Brisbane were dumped 2-4 by Perth incidentally.

I was surprised to hear Stokes started after his carry-on at the week-end. If Saint Johnstone can tear them apart, and it certainly sounded like it, then we clearly have the personnel to do so. Gannon won't tolerate a second slack game like last night in-a-row, I imagine we'll be back to our passing best again on Saturday.

That's just the thing with good, young players. Not every game is going to be the same, and we are going to have ones where they don't play as well. However, as we've seen and will do plenty of times this season, when it all goes right we'll cuff folk. Got to be patient and the rewards will arrive.

Bit slack tonight but 3-2 is as good as 10-2 in the Cup. Next round is all tha matters.

For such a big guy, Ruddy is amazingly quick and agile. It's credit to him he was able to get across to make a brilliant save for the third of the set. He's got to be signed long-term please!

We ended the season with a goals difference of For 28 Against 39 over 36 games. We had John Hendry "spearheading" the attack until Willie Falconer was signed. During the season, we went on a 16-game run scoring just twice during that spell. Then, bizarrely, a seven game run without conceding. Changed days!

Superb!! Wonder if we'll be docked 30 points for abusive behaviour now?!?!

Meant to say six wins in a seven-game run. Honest..........

No easy task to win this today, United were 13 unbeaten in all games (friendlies, league, cup etc) to this point. Fanastic result and the Gannon bandwagon marches on!

Everton don't want hiim and perhaps he'd be happty to take a cut to get a regular game in a side which has huge potential. Would like to think we can make it permanent, he's been superb virtually all his stay this far.

Wonder if we'd be better getting an agreement in place with Everton now. Can we make the move permanent now or must we wait until January?
