It is a funny old game
So do we fire out the cheating Rangers - first thoughts are Yes, absolutely and take your other half with you!!,
Would the majority of the other clubs throw us out if we did the same - absolutely, therefore the logical answer is see yah !!
But . . . how does this affect the mightywell?
Can someone tell me what it means for us without them. The way I look at it is, say 7,000 - 8,000 tickets at £28, twice per season is around £400K per season + extra revenue from corporate and sponsorship, but remove extra Policing etc, so say these even themselves out and it works out at the £400K, can we live without that for next few years?? Probably, what does this do to the team in terms of the squad and Youngy with the youth team.
What we need is to encourage more younger supporters to come along and bring their fathers/mothers/uncles/aunties along and get them to buy season tickets and support the team and build our fan base.
If we want a league without the old firm then we need to get off our arses and support the club !!
I don't see it as a case of firing them out. It's about letting a new club in. It shouldn't happen.
The thing about Rangers fans ticket revenue, I'm sure they were advocating a boycott of all SPL clubs for our insolence in slagging fuck out of them and wanting them deid. So it might be the case that that money is gone either way.
As an aside, people often bring up policing cost, but surely they're pretty negligable compared to the ticket revenue they come with, like with pie sales, people often mention them while 'm sure the number of pies sold are numbered in the hundreds at games.

There's a fair chance the SFA will suspend Rangers' share, so this discussion might be null anyways.

I thnk the point is that if a clubs 'folds', or 'goes under', that should be it, start again from the bottom, whereas a CVA, although not pretty, is a legal last resort business move to save a company.
I've changed my mind a few times on this whole thing. But I've came to the conclusion that this is indeed a once in a lifetime oppurtunity to fuck this whole old firm centric system. Motherwell have been giving it large with the 'join the revolution' patter, it's interesting how it now coincides with the oppurtunity for the 'wee teams' to kick the big two in the baws and make a genuine change to the scottish game.
I just don't think we could live it down if in a years time we're back to the same old old firm dominated league. Imagine sitting getting pumped 5-0 at fir park while the hvns belt out a 'party tune', knowing fine well we passed up the oppurtunity to usher in a new era in our game.
There's a sort of analogy with scottish independence I think. We can trundle along with what we know, to scared of risk, or we can grab the bull by the horns and try and stand on our own two feet. It might well fail, but at least we can say we gave it a shot.

i'm fairly certain the vote will go this way.
the poor clubs - us, ict, st johnstone, dundee united, st mirren, ross county, killie, - plus rangers will vote it through and take the heat for it.
celtic and aberdeen will vote against it because the majority of their supporters hate rangers vehemently. it's complete posturing from both of them as we know and lawell knows how much celtic fans stick by their team - we've played their twice to sub 20,000 crowds recently - and with no old firm games and a team who aren't competitive in europe every day is mother's day. milne is tight as fuck and wants a 10 team league but he'll be pleased to make an empty gesture with their white elephant stadium on the horizon.
hibs will vote against it because petrie needs to get fans on side after running them into the ground and killing rangers is about the only thing farmer will invest his own cash in hibs for.
the other owners will make sure vlad's vote is meaningless.
NewRangers won't be able to vote thereselves into the league. Also, ross county surely won't be reliant on the rangers cash.

The only thing I'm surprised at is that people are surprised that McCall said this. He's a Rangers fan, he stated his opinion.
Probably shouldn't have though.
-
And when did we last qualify for the champions league play offs?
Fair enough but even in our Europa league play off the seats left were still in the thousands I believe.
I imagine well society members will be given ticket priority too.
-
When did Fir Park last actually sell out? Anyone wanting a ticket will get one

I like to think theyre taking into account a rangerless league, and therefore keepin a tight budget. Just incase.
-
although a pretty neutral statemetent, it gives me a bit of confidence that they Will actualy listen to the fans on this.
-
Think the squad will be decimated in the weeks to come ,Jennings will be away, and I think we should brace ourselves for a number of players being sold ,Hutchy, Law ,Murphy and Randolph could all be away. We have enjoyed success as a club for a few seasons now but I'm afraid the lean years have arrived and it will be bottom six and perhaps a few relegation battles in the foreseeable future. Sorry to be so gloomy but that's just my thoughts on the matter .
Where does that come from? If it's lean years for us, it'll be similar for the rest of the SPL. I do wonder in what way we're budgetting, if we're considering the possibility of no rangers?

Although I'm disappointed at first sight that there's no many western teams, if it means going to a country I'd never otherwise visit, it mibi provides an oppurtunity for a more memorable trip.
-
Nice to see the stadiums we could visit. Kiev is a definate no no for me now. No doubt will be stuck behind the goal..........and I thought Hampden was bad. That is ootrageous
Copenhagen
Athens
Istanbul
in that order. Kiev.....nah.
I was thinking similar, kiev doesn't appeal much. Fenerbahce and pana would be some experience though. Although probably a tad more expensive than copenhagen?

Games against accies are generally the worst games you can put yourself through. If it's sunny fair enough though.

We never made the Euros
Aye and we're pish!
-
While I'm critical of higdon, I think he's no bad, and does a good job when he plays.
However, I think we've started playing some pretty pish stuff because we're focussing on him so much. The 0-0 willl rangers was the best we've played in a while I think, definitely football wise. So i'd like to see ojamaa and murphy getting played more often upfront.

Best case scenario is this drags on untill they just can't keep going and collapse. Then have a scramble to start a new club, two or three start up in division 3 and the whole brand just melts away as none can claim to be the 'true rangers'
-
It'd be unbelievable if we won our first tie. Proper top team in the playoff and then europa groups. Just hope we can keep the team together as much as we can to give us a slight chance of an upset.
-
even with rangers in the spl we are cutting our budget.
without them we would have to cut it even further which would mean we are unlikely to be able to resign the out of contract players and may have problems paying the players we have contracted for next season.
Wot he sed
-
I could live with that......
Fair play then, I'm just surprised people are entertaining the options of keeping jenno and the like if they're going to walk away if we don't cut our budget to keep rangers out.
-
Surely this discussion is a null point to those who are going to walk away if a newco get in. If rangers are out, I doubt we can offer hammell lasley or jenno reasonable deals. We should be resigned to a youth team.
-
There is something that the ten chairmen could do and that is say they will make their decision after the vote to change the existing voting structure - if rangers vote for the status quo then the other chairmen should vote not to allow a rangers newco entry into the SPL.
If rangers are not willing to vote for a faired league, then screw them. The ten chairmen must be able to prove that they have gotten something which changes the league (and Scottish football) for the better out of this sorry episode - and I don't believe a fairer split of tv money will be enough - or I fear many fans will walk away.
Thing is I don't think staying in the league is even that beneficial to Rangers. So it's not necessarily much of a threat. Plus I imagine that'd throw up a load more issues, could you trust rangers to keep their word?
-
The question is are they? I have not read anything from BSkyB about this whole scenario. Just those who think themselves journalists and eh... Neil "SPL requires to go down to 10 teams, becoming one of if not the smallest top league in Europe to survive" Doncaster....
A good point, and that maybe makes it even more important to make your voices known if sky are as yet undecided.
Surely the clubs would be in touch with sky though and be told what the potential situation is. If sky has told the clubs they will offer vastly reduced terms, then the clubs should come out and say that so the fans know what to think.
-
I agree this is the what we should be doing. It's sky that are effectively holding the game to ransom if they threaten to reduce the deal.
Straight Question To The Board Of Mfc Re. Rangers Newco

This is what I've always thought really. But when you think about it, the one thing that does and always has hindered our growth is 'the old firm'. With the old firm, we will always be consigned to feeding off the putrid scraps from their table. We can never grow into anything more than a sideshow to the celtic and rangers brand.
For this reason I think the only option we should consider is to hammer Rangers as hard as possible. It's a golden oppurtunity. Yes we'll take a big hit to begin with, but it's a matter of ambition. Are we to simply know our place as the lapdogs of the old firm, or can we take the leap to be equal contenders in a genuine, competitive Scottish league?
This is without even considering the fact that it's completely outrageous in itself to readmitt a new rangers in terms of fairness.
