  1. The Community teams are at the same level as boys clubs & play in the same leagues as the other boys clubs in the area. From there, any boy that stands out will get scouted by pro teams, the same as boys from the likes of Mill Utd, Camby Talbot etc. The boys that attend the camps, Saturday Club, etc tend to be unattached boys that can get picked up by boys clubs & the community team
  2. They are completely separate. Boys from the community sides would get scouted like boys from other boys clubs

    2016/17 Ins & Outs

I thought Watt was disappointing against Edinburgh City. I thought his distribution was really poor, which I thought was one of his stronger attributes. Of the 2, I thought Maguire showed up better.

    2016/17 Ins & Outs

    In a coaching capacity?
  5. Absolutely right. Scottish Cup quarter final at a packed Fir Park. I was one of the mascots that day. Note I didn't say "lucky mascot"
  6. I've been to a few under-20 games this season & always been impressed with Allan Campbell in the middle of the park
  7. I agree about Forbes & Slane. I thought when Ian Ross broke through he'd go far in the game. Bags of ability. I remember Greig Denham winning man of the match in one of his first games in a Sky live game during a 0-0 draw against Rangers (knee injuries set him back big time though). Big Innes Ritchie looked like he'd have a good career in the game without necessarily progressing beyond us.
  8. Mark O'Brien getting released by Derby. I wonder if Baraclough will offer him a permanent deal. http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-County-Rams-reveal-retained-list-2015-16/story-26486415-detail/story.html
  9. Superward - the under-20 left-back is Jack McMillan, think he played in one of the pre-season games. He's 16, just promoted from the under-17s last season.
  10. It looked like an injury for Vigurs. McHugh got subbed at half time so I'm guessing the plan was for Vigurs to get 45 mins as well.
  11. Can't believe there's a full page on people saying Angol's utter shite & the worst player to play for us in years. I'll agree he's woefully inconsistant (even within a game), and I get frustrated at time watching him but he's still a young boy and still learning. He's a good athlete with pace and is probably the player with the most sell on value we've got due to these attributes being the prime factor when clubs down South look for players. He's had his moments though, 3 goals, some assists - so he is contributing.

    Board Statement

    Here's the link: http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2014/05/21/statement-from-the-board-may-2014/
  13. I heard a story that the David Murray told John Chapman before the game that he wont be able to have a wee drink with him afterwards because they'll be celebrating the league win. When Coyle scored his second apparently Chapman ran over to Murray in the directors box & gave him an earful. The Daily Record were handing out 9-in-a-row flyers that day as well. Best visit to Ibrox ever. Great performance, obviously Coyle but I seem to remember McMillan had a stormer at centre-half.
  14. As a couple of guys have already mentioned, the Scottish Cup gubbing at Tynecastle (1990 I think) was the worst for me. The fact that it was pissing down, we got soaked behind the goals, we took a big support through and I think it was 4-0 with about 40 minutes left to play.
  15. I don't really have any concerns about or squad, outside the our 13 or 14 regular first teamers, being "untried, inexperienced kids". Maybe Lawless, Pollock or Halsman could be a game changer, we don't know because they've never been given a chance. The club have spent a fair chunk of our player budget over the last couple of seasons to either offer full-time pro or more luctrative existing full-time pro deals to these guys so we should give them a chance to see what they can do. If it doesn't work out then fair-do's. They will get released at the end of the season when their deals expire and we get new players in.
  16. That's a belter of a list. Don't think anyone will be able to top that!
  17. Jamie Pollock, Steve Howarth & Ross McKinnon have all signed one-year deals http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2011/06/07/young-trio-pen-extensions/
  18. From today's Evening Times: Stuart McCall has reached a verbal agreement with Motherwell skipper Stephen Craigan over a one-year contract extension. The Steelmen gaffer reacted quickly to the departure of last term’s top scorer John Sutton to Hearts by signing former St Mirren striker Michael Higdon. But McCall has been left in a sweat over the signatures of Craigan and midfield general Stevie Jennings, who have both stalled on signing new deals with the Lanarkshire club. He is now confident of keeping his captain and is delighted about Craggs continuing presence at the heart of the Well rearguard. McCall said: “Stephen is on holiday in Ireland right now, but we have talked things over and I am happy we have a positive understanding. “I have said all along how highly I value Stephen’s presence both on and off the park at Motherwell. We are a young side, possibly the youngest on average in the SPL and his leadership is absolutely vital to us. “If you look at the way young lads like Stevie Saunders and Shaun Hutchinson have progressed over the last season or two then Stephen’s influence has been a huge part of that.” However, the future of Jenno is less clear cut. The former Tranmere Rovers star is being tracked by Aberdeen gaffer Craig Brown as a replacement for the retired Paul Hartley, but it is believed the midfielder is not keen to relocate to Pittodrie. There is also thought to be League One interest in Jennings, who would find a return south of the border attractive. But McCall says he has not given up hope of keeping the 26-year-old. The Well boss said: “We will have to wait and see how things pan out with Jenno, but I am still hopeful there. “Obviously he is another key part of our side and it is one of these things that he is going to take his time over and assess his options. “Motherwell are still one of those options.” Meanwhile, the Fir Park gaffer has admitted that he will be looking to England to beef up his squad with loan players for next season. McCall said: “Obviously we brought Gavin Gunning in from Blackburn Rovers and he did very well for us last season. I am not sure how Blackburn are planning to go forward, but we are staying in touch on that one. “What I would anticipate is bringing in two or three talented youngsters later in the summer. English clubs are aware of the value of loaning out there top young kids to get competitive football and the SPL is a great place for them to get that.” Well will start their pre-season build-up with a game at Dumbarton on Saturday, July 9.

    Ins & Outs

I read in one of the tabloid yesterday that Hibs, one other SPL side I can't remember and Aberdeen were looking at him.
  20. We did indeed. Those two victories over the old firm came either side of a trouncing at Dens Park. What is is that Fatcalf says? The more things change the more they stay the same. He's right!
  21. Cheers for the info Pele. I stand corrected. A particular low point for me that season was the 4-3 defeat to Clyde in a SC replay at Fir Park. Did Nicky Walker not drop the ball into the net or something?
  22. Not sticking up for him or anything because I still shudder when I think of that season but did Davie Hay not do a similar thing to McGhee in that he allowed loads of players to leave and then buggered off to coach in the States so when Wallace took over he didn't have a lot of players to choose from? Thus kickstarting one of the worst player recruitment exercises ever witnessed. Or am I totally wrong????? I was a 9-year old Motherwell supporting anorak at the time!!!!

    Raith Rovers

I agree. If he's good enough sign him up & get him in the team no matter what his nationality or footballing background is. I'm not sure if this was a reply to me or not but my point about Hutchinson (and fo Page, Pollock, Meechan etc) is not that he's come completely from start to finish out of our youth system (very few players are). I know he was scouted & signed from the North East but my point was based solely on him having a fairly long-term contract with us and should be given a chance to see if he shines, attracts interest and possibly goes for a sizeable transfer fee.
