  1. I was brought up in the 60s and schooled in a Rangers environment and I loved football. My first strip was a Rangers one, my first game attended was a Rangers one.

I was oblivious to the other stuff around that (at first) but as I grew older and went to more games that changed, the culmination in that was a game v Hibs, sitting with my dad in the posh seats, (his bosses season tkts) while the smartly dressed guy in front with wife by his side stood up and called Pat Quinn every sweary anti catholic insult you could think of and nothing was said. I was 12 and can remember it as if it was yesterday, I never went back and drifted away from senior football until after a change of school in EK I met lads who were Well fans and found my spiritual home, 50 years later, still lifelong friends.

I have a deep rooted dislike of Rangers and Celtic and everything both of them stand for. With the odd exception you cannot have a reasonable football discussion with fans of either, who view everything through their tinted glasses and cannot comprehend any other view.

Deep as that feeling is I do not dislike either of them more than I love my club which stands for everything I believe in, and I believe all of us who take the harder road of supporting a 'smaller' club do so from that perspective.

I honestly do not believe any Well fan hates either of the arse cheeks (detestable as they are) more than support our club; that is our overriding purpose.

Round and round and round and round........a great solution if your an insomniac. Makes Alexanderball look positively riveting.

I actually saw a team in claret and amber winning yesterday, pity i had to travel 280 miles to see it! Spent this weekend with a mate who supports Bradford City, took in their 2-0 win v MK Dons, wasn't full Alexanderball but not far off it, 36% possession, no nonsense defenders hit it long, pacey front men, press high and win second balls, both goals came from putting opposition under pressure when on the ball. 2-0 up early in second half just saw the game out. 17000 crowd who made plenty noise, natives seemed very happy with things, actually quite nice to be in a happy crowd, I was a critic of GA, but right now I'd give anything for a win no matter what style we play. (for now 🤫)

First season at Luton wee Al made 39 appearances. Second season at Luton he made 47 appearances in a team that won promotion to the EPL. He also won Luton's player of the month on multiple occasions.

You can argue whether a player is EPL level, but I'm not sure those Luton stats make you "overrated".

It certainly went went wrong in the last couple of seasons, but that could be due to multiple factors.

He also got fans player of the season, I know a diehard Luton fan who got him that night to do a wee video for my daughter which she treasures.

Anytime I watched Luton though he wasn't on the ball that often, plenty energy and seemed to be primarily in the back up/supporting role picking up scraps and recycling

Saw his first game for Millwall and it was more of the same. Like others I thought going to Charlton and renuniting with Nathan Jones would resurrect things for him but sadly seems not.

I get where Kmcalpin is coming from, although maybe a tad harsh

  4. I've got a feeling this might be a rough ride initially, I can almost hear Kenny McIntyre and his cohorts on radio getting their knives sharpened for a big pile on if the new regime doesn't start well. 5th when he left etc etc. They love nothing more than a crisis they can feast on (a la Adeen, Hibs, Hearts)

It's going to be important that the fan base sticks behind him even if initial results disappoint, and I think it will as there is universal acceptance he has a huge task on his hands. (as long as an improvement in tactics, work rate and aggression is on show)

My Thistle-supporting mates told me at the weekend that the talk amongst them was that Doolan was about to go and Kettlewell was lined up to replace him. Wonder if that's why his BBC buddies haven't handed him a gig.

IF that is the case I would think the Thistle board might think again after that piece in The Sun. Their fans are not shrinking violets when it's not going well.

  6. Was at a physio appt today and in between the sadistic sod torturing me, we did discuss the SK situation.

When I talked about the irony of the abuse allegations given SK's interactions with match officials he said that was nothing new, when he was a physio with a youth team, they played Motherwell and Ketts was constantly berating the officials.

Said his behaviour was completely unacceptable.

Feeling similar: the failure of the club to defend the vast majority of decent of our support has left me wondering if they're the kind of people who should be running our club and I'm not sure either that they can make the correct decision on the next manager. The media pile-on should have been challenged from the start and their ignoring of the Thelin abuse  just shows what a hypocritical bunch our football churnalists are.

Ketttlewell's bacon roll and "holding court" style press conferences have certainly paid dividends.

I'm with you mate, been disillusioned for a long while on and off the pitch, but backed the WS and increased my subs after Barmack as I thought it might be the start of a new dawn.

I am so angry at the way the club (and WS) has handled this and lost control, throwing us all under the bus, and generating huge negative publicity for the club, and the only reason the correct narrative is getting out there now is from non club channels like Graeme McGarry in the Herald, Tam Cowan, and some sensible fan interviews. But damage has been done.

The Well Society have been virtually silent. Their comms was great during Barmack, and in general since, but apart from one vague statement there has been nothing. Now perhaps they decided against adding fuel to the fire, but a simple appreciation of SK, a condemnation of abuse but speaking up for the majority of a fan base that supported the manager last season during a 15 games winless run (hi Aberdeen) might have redressed the balance.

Dont agree that Aberdeen get better treatment from media than us...we can get a bit paranoid re the Glasgow twins but not so much Aberdeen.

I agree with this, maybe not with Richard Gordon, but last week Kenny whatshisname (dreadful anchorman btw) was desperately asking Billy Dodds at Adeen multiple times, is there any booing, have the fans turned, so he could get a right old pile on going.

He was similar during Hibs bad run, him and Tom English and the reporter slagging them off continually on openallmics during RC game, and then it was a ' condescending guess what happened, Hibs have scored.

Fact is Sportsound have become shock jockeys looking for sh1t to spread with the exception of calling out the OF fanbase.

Don't think they have it in for us more than any other club/support they are just crap

Been mulling the interview over for a wee while to give me time to clear my head. Mainly because I found myself with more questions than answers. And a few things that I struggled to make sense of.

Firstly, for me, there is no doubt that Brian Caldwell was at a low ebb and was shocked by the whole turn of events. He clearly feels empathy for his employee and is supporting him as best he can. It was a difficult and disturbing watch. I also get his unease at how quickly folk were applying to fill Stuart Kettlewell's shoes.

But I find it strange that given the close working relationship we are told the two had........meeting or talking nearly every day and almost certainly more so in January given our downturn in form, injury situation and the need for action in the transfer window.....that our CEO had no inkling whatsoever of the mental anguish Stuart Kettlewell and his family were going through. To a lesser extent that also applies to other Board Members.

Also we are told that the abuse situation heightened during the home victory against Aberdeen. Initially I thought it must have been during the cup loss to St Johnstone. I sit directly behind the home dugout and have witnessed fans screaming at SK to sort things out. At the Aberdeen game and at others throughout this season and last. So it does happen but not to any greater a degree than Alexander, Hammell and others before them had to endure. Not excusing or justifying it but just trying to get things into perspective in my own head. Given that I and others were aware of it, I find hard to accept that those sitting in the Directors' Box a few rows behind me did not see or hear what was a fairly regular occurrence. Or did they see it and disregard it as something that happens at matches the length and breadth of the country? Either way it makes no sense.

It also struck me that there appears to have been no serious attempt to persuade SK to hang on a bit longer. possibly following a Club Statement asking for calm and informing fans that such abuse would not be tolerated. If I was to take a cynical view I might think that Caldwell was in part relieved at Stuart's decision as it might have avoided him having to take action if the performance on the pitch continued to spiral downwards.

I don't do Facebook or Twitter so apologies if more details of the abuse Kettlewell suffered was revealed on those platforms. But I have witnessed nothing first hand that merits the all out assault on what feels like ALL Motherwell by the media,. And which sadly seemed to be supported by the statements initially released by MFC and the Well Society.

I am not in any way playing down the abuse that most definitely takes in football be it aimed at players, Managers, Officials or even fans. But this whole situation makes less and less sense to me the more I try to understand it. For me, there are far too many contradictions.

Hopefully Stuart Kettlewell and his family are now in a much better place. Time for everybody to move on.

Spot on, exactly my thoughts, it produced more questions than answers.

I actually started typing out a post last night so similar to yours it's scary, then tiredness took over and the fact I'm getting scunnered with the whole thing.

Thankfully todays interviews with Frail and SODs finally moved things in the right direction, and Graeme McGarry's piece in the Herald has reassured me that there is still proper journalism out there.

I find myself wondering though if Brian Caldwell's heart is in it going forward, not bourne out of any knowledge, just the impression I was left with.

For the second time in a row a manager has taken us from a relegation situation into the Top 6 and then been abused out of his job.

There is no way around saying this, a lot of our fans are deplorable human beings.

I'm the first one to have a go at anyone dishing out abuse to our players or managers and have got myself into some difficult situations in doing so, but I honestly didn't feel he was on the end of anything out of order at games, although am willing to be proved wrong

  11. I think the 'abuse' bit is a convenient scapegoat.

He's realised he can't turn this round so he is going now to protect the legacy of the good things he has done, unsullied by a potential relegation battle, now leaving a club that has backed him to the hilt in the transfer market managerless with only a week to go in the window.

That Daily Record piece could have been written by SK himself, all the positives, none of the negatives.

An article in the Herald this morning which is worth reading.

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/24886398.motherwell-fans-turning-stuart-kettlewell/

The best media summing up I've come across was by Craggs on the BBC on Saturday. Basically our league position & semi final appearance are at odds with our stats, fan unrest and current bad run. This is because we got a bit lucky earlier but now teams have worked us out and we have been found out.

An article in the Herald worth reading is not a phrase you see often, but this one is bang on the money, thanks for posting

Im not answering that. I've had a few digs aimed at me over the last 24 hours and it's been made very clear that my opinions on this subject aren't welcome.

That's nonsense, just because you are swimming against the tide doesn't mean your opinions are not welcome, it's a fan's forum not an echo chamber, be very dull if we all agreed.

Forums can be a bit of a cesspit at times but I've found SO far more balanced and less confrontational than it used to be.

You have made very good points and have been consistent, but if you post a view on a fan's forum you have to expect it to be challenged if someone disagrees,, but you seem to take it personally when someone challenges your views, my advice is try not to, just counter it, then just let it go.

FWIW I am very much known amongst fellow fans I see at games as a 'Happy Clapper', have never barracked the team or an individual, something I hate to see happening, and I don't like to see hard working guys like SK fail, so I understand where you are coming from.

However my view has now changed with the evidence on show in recent weeks, and this is only ending one way sadly.

  14. Honestly if I hear one more 'pundit' saying 'but you are 5th in the league and been in a cup semi final' I think I'll scream.

Blind Pugh can see the way this is going, 6 points above the play off place with Celtic up next.

Interesting to hear Leeanne having a go at the substitutions today and Craggs highlighting only 30% possession, wonder if SK will listen to them as they do have playing and coaching/ management experience?

Can only hope he does well for us but signing a guy who can't get in the squad of 24th in League 2 feels underwhelming.

It does indeed, but I understand there are reasons for that, and Carlisle are a club in complete disarray. Suppose we should remember we got Louis Moult from a club in non league and he was meant to be back up to Wes Fletcher, and look what happened, sometimes a player fits, lets hope so

  16. Was watching the weekly english leagues highlights programme and I see Brodie Spencer and Zak Jules both scored.

BS was of course decent with us, but I still have nightmares about the time the bold Zak prevented the ball going out for our bye kick and presented it to a Ross Co? player to score.

  17. I've been critical of our fans for many years, but in the case of SK, I think barring the usual inarticulate numpties on fb and twitter,  by and large those on here and P&B have been pretty measured in responses during last years bad run and this most recent situation.

I do think though that Saturday's reaction has been on the cards for a wee while but I also think SK has also become a bit of a lightning rod for what has been an abysmal 6 years or so since Robbo held his hands up then GA sucked the life out the place, and Hammell's ill fated tenure. Apart from the Spittal/Bair purple patch, there has been no excitement in watching our team for a long time.

I like SK, and he has a lot of credit in the bank for getting us clear of relegation, keeping calm, keeping the dressing room, and guiding us clear of trouble the following year. The support deserves credit also for by and large sticking with him during that spell.

However a lot of goodwill was used up, and the signs are there that he is not responding well to the difficulties this season, the well documented injury situation, his pressers have been more downbeat, criticism of players/team more regular, a passive inflexible tactical set up, poor haphazard recruitment, and the constant yellow/red cards is doing no one any favours, but indication that he is feeling the heat.

He must at the moment feel the world is against him and Saturday's (justified btw) fan reaction will have cut deep.

The rumours of dressing room issues add  to the problems he faces. He needs help and I find myself wondering what his assistant and our 'army' of coaches are bringing to the table.

I hope for his sake and ours he can turn this round, but it would need such a change in approach that in my heart of hearts I can't see it.

When you lose the support its only a matter of time, and seeing  negative comments from fair minded folks previously supportive on here and Pie&B says to me he needs to arrest this slide starting Saturday or rightly or wrongly things will become toxic at matches benefitting none of us.

It was probably bad luck that Heygi got recalled just before Ox got injured. However Matty Connolly was on the bench last week I believe so none of us know why he wasn't this week. It could have been for any reason

The reason that Heygi didn't feature was because Ox hit form

Mair has a good rep by all accounts and it can't be easy being flung in at the deep end like this

Connolly cup tied with EK, thats the reason

We all make mistakes, especially when making split second decisions. However he was offered a way out by his VAR colleagues but chose to ignore their advice. That's fine if you're right but if you're wrong..........

Thats my issue with the whole farce.

I can almost forgive the original call, but not the doubling down.

That is either an obstinate ignoring the obvious because he didn't want to admit a mistake or it was a genuine belief it was still a red card.

Either way it should mean he doesn't ref a Premier League game again

Ryan Jack has now managed a few months playing in Turkey without injury. Surely he’ll now be stopping getting paid by his club soon as per usual in Turkey and we’ll see him back in the UK in the transfer window? Defensive midfielder ticked off when we sell Lennon for £8m 🤣

Whoever comes in when Lennon goes will be on a hiding to nothing.

I'm still of a mindset of getting enough points on board to avoid relegation, as no one seems to be discussing how our season will pan out IF he goes in January.

Our solitary goal on Friday might not officially be an assist, but without looking up or taking a touch he had the awareness and skill to first time a perfect clipped cross to the backpost.

We will miss that ability massively

Absolutely bizarre stuff from the refereeing/var team tonight.

Giving the red card is one thing...but having the ability to 'have another look' and then double down, is quite another. Totally baffling stuff and another black mark against VAR for me...

Less said about Killies penalty appeal, the better. Again, what are the VAR folk looking at?

On the game, we looked jaded, well off it and didn't really ever control the game at all. A point is a decent outcome

VAR not at fault for red card, they did the right thing by asking the clown of a ref to look at it again

I feel for Miller. He’s completely hamstrung by the duds around him and by Kettlewell who has made him move away from his best position. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was on the phone to his agent tonight asking to get a move happening ASAP in January now.

Thats been my thought in last few weeks. It's allright saying he gets game time here, but playing in this team with such mediocrity around him, I wouldn't be surprised if he and his father decide January is the time to go, and then we will see even more of a sh1tshow in midfield. After RC game I thought to myself we are in trouble, non mwell mates said no way, I'm now convinced we are
