  1. They were advised that with the Weather forecast fans wouldn't get soaked etc

Don't think they will take that decision again if they listen to their fans who imho are right to complain albeit this boys complaining to the wrong people.

But again most of his points are valid shite tannoy, manky seats, slippy stairwells,, shite atmosphere, terrible playing surface.

Can you really argue against the points not who to blame

Yeah I kinda agree but the thing is, he clearly hasnt written the letter to complain about specific points, it's been written to complain about Motherwell, and he's just using those points as a means to do it. Which grates a little as his first point should be a complaint to his own club.

  2. Worst...and I honestly cant remember ever thinking any different. There's been the odd game, or even a run of games where it hasn't been like that, but it never fails to return to the norm. Most of the time I cant stand our own support.

And would I not be right in saying Duncan Shearer once refused to move to Motherwell because of our fans?

Yeah his official public response to an offer we made him was along the lines of "why would I leave Aberdeen where the fans love me and chant my name, to go to a club where the fans boo their own players?"

We are notorious amongst players, managers and officials for being a terrible support to play in front of, and over the years you'd be surprised how many times that has been the determining factor in players deciding not to come here

  3. I dont necessarily think anything strange has gone on with Chris Sutton, although he bagged a few goals I definately think we suffered as a team by trying to shoe-horn him into it. I dont think it's a coincidence that him being left out has allowed us to get back within touching distance of the performances we know we're capable of. Sutton is a decent striker, but you're never gonna play him ahead of Ports, and then playing both of them means the whole balance of the rest of the team is affected. I genuinely think thats all it is. I wouldnt have any problem with playing him in Porters place however, should he be injured/move on, as I do think Sutton has a lot to offer...it just doesnt necessarily fit with what we do right now when they both play.

One thing I did notice though which backs up the point being made in this thread, is that at half time we had 6 subs warming up in the centre circle....

    McGarry

    Boab

    Murphy

    Darren Smith

    Sutton

    Lasley

Every one of those players could put forward a case for being part of the "starting 11" on another day...and indeed have been regularly. And yet not only was this without our team being weakened, it was actually using what in my optinion was our strongest starting side right now. I thought that was a really good sign of how we stand at the moment...if we are lucky enough to be able to make one or two signings during this window, not to mention big Stretch looking closer to a return, we will actually have a fairly strong looking squad for the business end of the season.

  4. I don't wholey agree with that statement. The Trust should act in the best interest of the fans of the club. This may differ from the Clubs stance on official matters. As an example "No Means No" was probably not in the interest of the club financially, but was something that many fans thought was in their own interest.

Yeah in essence I do agree with you Joe, the fans should be the main priority of a supporters trust, which is why I was wondering what the club were asking for assistance with, as at 3 and a half grand it clearly wasnt anything trivial, and as fans of the club we all have whats best for it at heart. If the trust needs fans for it to grow, and is acting on behalf of those fans...then surely they should be privalaged to information regarding requests that have been granted/declined, so that they know whether their interests are in fact being represented?

Also, the trusts responsibility to the fans aside, I can honestly say that I find the intimation that the decisions regarding whether to grant/decline assistance are based on how much the trust can be seen to be helping, rather than how helpful the assistance would be in itself, quite off-putting.

Of course it may well be the case that depending on the nature of the clubs request I would possibly agree with the stance of the trust, but how will we ever know if it's something we'd want to be involved in, when we dont know what that is?

  5. Disappointed to see it closed. I dont agree that it wasnt going anywhere, I just think it was going in a direction that wasnt doing certain quarters any favours, and closing it seems to trivialise peoples questions and queries.

That will be me as far as the subject goes, as I said before I know precious little about the trust and was genuinely interested in finding out their stance on a few things that were being raised there. Unfortunately closing it kinda makes it seem like there are things to be swept under the carpet regarding the questions being asked (not saying there is...just that it makes it seem like it), and again just seems to diminish the appeal of any involvement.

  6. Nail. Hit. Head.

I do not really care about a amateur football team sponsor but

    • was the stuff needed?
    • will mst only donate stuff that us a 'good photo opportunity?
    • is the trust set up for the benefit of MFC or MST?

Handing over a cheque is good enough for Children in Need it's good enough for mst. If you ever wonder why the likes of me are no longer trust members .........

I was about to make a post there, but that kinda touches on what I was going to say.

I have absolutely no previous experience of the trust (in all honesty im that way on purpose...football for me personally is something I enjoy for 90 minutes on matchdays, im not interested in becoming more involved with the club or knowing how it works etc...I just like going to the football).

I also have no affiliation with either WTFC or FPC, in fact not being from the area I didnt even know FPC had a football team, and I was only aware of the WTFC one initially because that was the name of the old forum so you couldnt really not notice it.

I guess with those comments im just trying to establish my objectivity and impartiality so, that said, im a bit dismayed to find that the trust seems to base their decision on which projects recieve their support, by how well it protrays them, rather than for the good of the actual project.

As a non-member of the trust (and therefore i'd assume an ideal target for having you promote the trust in a positive light, making membership seem an attractive prospect), i'd be interested to know what the proposals from the club were that you decided against? I'm assuming that with the club having approached you for funding, it was something they felt would be of great use or assistance to them, and in my opinion how much the club would benefit from any proposal, should be the defining factor in whether the assistance (financial or otherwise) is granted or not.

In short, i'd expect the existence and actions of any club trust to be be in the best interests of the club, rather than in the trust itself. It would seem that this isn't the case here and things that would be of great benefit to the club are being overlooked because they dont meet the interests of the trust. In my view that is wrong, and the opposite way round fom the way it should be...and the reason I (and possibly many others) choose to stay away from involvement in any trust.

As I say, as a non-member i'd be interested to hear what the clubs request involved, and the reasons why the trust decided that it wasn't viable enough to recieve their assistance. After all...this information is a determining factor in people deciding if it's something they would wish to be involved with. Surely every part of Motherwell Football Club's support structure is there for the ultimate good of Motherwell Football club, rather than that of the individual parts?

  7. I sit in the Cooper and i've noticed a new thing in the last 2 or 3 seasons.

Whereas folk used to scream and bawl at the players everytime they made a mistake, now it seems they will unload a torrent of abuse if a player does something different from what they thought he should have...even if it's not a mistake!! It really is getting beyond a joke as far as the amount of folk that seem to think they know better than anyone actually playing/managing.

  8. To be fair it looked to me like the ball came to Marc too high to be able to get above it and head down...he had no option but to try and "lob" the defender on the line. Obviously like to see it again in the highlights, but I dont think he had as much of an option as you'd initially think.

  9. I would definately have The Kaiser as a bona fide 'Well legend for a few reasons.

Got a really hard time from the fans when he first arrived, but instead of spitting the proverbial dummy, worked his ass off to improve his game, and got them back onside.

When we went into administration, stepped up to the plate as the senior player (even though he was mid-twenties), and from a playing perspective, carried our whole side through the worst period in history, led by example, and is one of the most professionally minded players off the field that i've ever witnessed. Whilst we had a team full of youngsters which were entertaining at times, The Kaiser, for me, lifted the whole team on his shoulders and guided it through that whole period.

Not to mention the fact that he took a huge pay cut to stay at the club at the time (I think it might have actually been two), and being lucky enough to know him personally it was for the good of the club that he took it and stayed, when he could easily have gone to at the very least another SPL club.

Ever since he arrived at Fir Park he was always about the fans. Again this is a personal note, but the one thing he always said to me was to tell him if the fans didnt like him, in which case he would move on. It was pretty much his only concern, and in my opinion it was plain to see that everything he did during his time with us was for the club and the fans.

Was, and still is, gutted to have been forced to move on. Unfortunately for him two serious injuries coming around the time of him starting a family (therefore getting injured and not being able to provide for them playing on his mind), coming so close after losing his father (at which point he almost quit the game for good), just meant he wasnt at the top of his game anymore, and for various other reasons had been told he wouldnt feature for the first team again under McGhee/Leitch, he was left with no option but to move on.

Added to that, he's in the top 10 all time appearances for our club (i think...if he's not, he's not far off it).

I personally would be extremely surprised if anyone could put together any sort of case for him to NOT be considered a 'well legend. Especially if you'd consider Faddy to be one which I dont dispute, but really all he did was be good enough that someone wanted to pay a decent amount of money. If he'd left us and been shite, and not played for Scotland, I doubt he'd be held in as high regard as he is. Again, not de-valuing Faddy at all, I just think think if he is, then The Kaiser most certainly is. I think it's pretty much a given that a player looked up to and respected by someone you'd class as a legend, must also be considered one.

  10. If im honest i quiet like him, i find his ramblings quite charming at times, it always brings a smile to my face when he tries to translate saying from his native tounge into english. the menaing is lost most of the time but he seems to have passion and conviction, another character for the scottish game.

Aye but this thread isny about Yogi though...

  11. Theres a pic in the paper today of the goal, a split second after Ports has headed it. Neilsens wide eyed and mouth open, arms flying in the air...but theres a clear gap between them. Ports isn't touching him at all.
