  1. If I was McCall I'd be sending a team of reserves to Russia! My focus in on those sheep shaggers on Sunday whom, as I may have mentioned, hate with every fibre of my being.

    I'm afraid I can't agree with that.

We could end up sending our reserves To Russia and they receive a right going over which will do nothing for their confidence.

Then on Sunday, the sheep decide to give out "1st" team a good going over due to lack of competitive match practice.

    No thanks.

  2. Off to do some prep work, now, but shall I name and shame the pubs who tried to charge me silly amounts for "a glass of Scottish beer, please?" (стакан шотландского пива, пожалуйста if you want to try it.)

Of course you should name and shame, if these were pubs in the Motherwell area that is even more shocking.

  3. Google "translate" from UBH's link

  4. Anyone think that this expensive trip to Russia may have had a knock on affect on the playing budget!!

If we get thru this round then potentially money will be added to the budget again for players!!

    From the shoutbox

Motherwell coach Kenny Black has admitted the club cannot make anymore signings due to the cost of their Europa League trip to Russia. (Daily Mail)

    Looking for a link...

  5. It ios the route and always has been as far as I am aware. I've been down here 17 years and always managed to get a direct train from Manchester to either Motherwell or Glasgow. I'm getting an earlier train arriving at 13.35 for a 14.00 kick off is cutting it too fine in my book as the ground is a wee bit away from the station and I fancy a beer or two before kick-off.

Both of you are correct in this instance.

You can get a direct train from Manchester to Motherwell/Glasgow but Manchester isn't on the West Coast main line.

  6. Not taken long for ko times to be changed, wonder how many games next season will actually kick off at 3pm on a Saturday

    Better earlier than later IMO.

This gives fans a better chance for cheaper travel arrangements etc.

(Not that I'm agreeing with the ko times being changed though)

  7. Rumours that the hibs game against Nottingham forest was stopped for rioting

    From the Scotsman:

Hibernian 1 - 2 Nottingham Forest: Supporters clash

    Published on 07/07/2013 00:00

The final match of Hibernian’s preseason tour of southern Europe was last night overshadowed by violent clashes between supporters.

Fans of both sides made the trip to Portugal in their droves and, with an English/Scottish emnity evident, there was an ugly atmosphere inside the tiny ground.

Sectarian chanting was also clearly audible as supporters confronted each other at the makeshift metal barriers which split the main stand.

Heavy-handed attempts by baton-wielding local police to calm matters only exacerbated the situation and riot police quickly arrived. That lit the blue touch paper and, on 35 minutes, violence erupted. Forest fans pushed through the barriers, which were quickly used as weaponry, being thrown by supporters.

Riot police waded in mercilessly, with both sets of fans struck, including one elderly Hibs fan and a Forest supporter who was clearly bloodied.

Calm was restored before half time, with Forest fans penned into a small area of the main stand by police. Thankfully, there did not appear to be any serious injuries.

It turned events on the pitch into something of an afterthought.

In the 30-degree heat Hibs captain James McPake was drafted into the starting line-up after being rested for Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Gibraltar.

However, Kevin Thomson, whom the capital club are keen to sign on the club’s return to Edinburgh, was rested.

Ahead of the violence, Forest fans saw their side claim the lead after 26 minutes, with Dexter Blackstock firing a superb penalty kick into the roof of the net after being brought down by Lewis Stevenson.

The second half was played out in a rather eerie atmosphere, given the violent scenes before the break.

However, there were moments to rouse each set of fans. Firstly, Owain Tudur Jones netted his first goal since joining Hibs from Inverness, calmly slotting home after an incisive Danny Handling pass.

But the joy was fleeting as Billy Davies’ Championship outfit immediately regained the lead.

Striker Ishmael Miller had too much pace for the Hibs back-line and, when played through one-on-one with Ben Williams, managed to bundle the ball into the net to clinch victory.

  8. Just received this email from the club

Motherwell FC are today delighted to confirm former Ross County midfielder Iain Vigurs has signed a two-year deal at Fir Park.

Vigurs' date=' along with Paul Lawson, was a standout for the Dingwall club last season as they recorded a top-six finish in their first year in the top flight.

The 25-year old started his professional career with Elgin before moving to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2006. He was with Caley for three years before moving across the Kessock Bridge to join the Staggies in 2009.

He enjoyed a productive stint at Victoria Park, including a Scottish Cup runners-up medal in 2010 and a SFL1 Championship in 2011/12.

Steelmen boss Stuart McCall has managed to fend off competition for his signature from both north and south of the border as the club continues its summer recruitment plan.

Speaking exclusively to MFC TV, Vigurs said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining, Motherwell are a massive club who did so well last season.

“The club has a good fan base and a good manager in Stuart McCall; he was a big pull in me coming here and I am excited about working with him.

“Motherwell as a whole has a good reputation, I have heard nothing but good things and I just can’t wait to get the season started now.

Chief Executive Leeann Dempster added: “We are delighted we have managed to recruit both Iain and Paul for next season.

“Obviously this is a summer of change at Fir Park but with that comes a lot of excitement and Iain’s signing typifies the caliber of player we are looking to bring in for our European and domestic campaign.

“In partnership with the manager, we are working through a list of targets and we are hoping to announce more new signings soon.”

Watch his first interview as a Motherwell player only on MFC TV[/quote']

  9. Cheers Andy & Squirrelhumper for your replies.

My real concern was that we may have been setting some form of precedent by showing the match live in a bar within the club grounds. Is the Cooper Suite normally open on Friday nights for general access for example?

Don't get me wrong, I fully agree with what the lads did and it was noticeable that the club did not promote the fact the match could be watched at Fir Park. The only promotion I saw from the club for fans who could not make the match was to listen to the commentary on MFC TV.

Perhaps I'm being a little paranoid but the next step here is for clubs to say "Why travel away when you can watch the match here, in your home ground?"

For European away matches I can understand, but for SPL matches? That shows the grip SKY/ESPN has over our game where some matches are inaccessible to the ordinary fan.

    /rant

@weeyin Unlike P&B you can't click on the rep count to find out who has given rep. Interesting who ever it was has not appeared here to explain why :whistling:

  10. I'm a little bit concerned here.

Does any other club have their own bar and open it for their fans to watch an away match on Sky/ESPN?

I've a feeling that United may try to pull a fast one on us especially when fans were forced into the upper tier (at extra cost) giving the impression that there were no away fans there, at least according to ESPN & BBC highlights that I have seen.

On the other hand, they may have shot themselves in the foot by emphasising the lack of the away support due to their policies on away fans.
