  1. Question: How many of the great unwashed are liable to turn up? This is a completely meaningless game for them, after all. "Your season's over.....why don't you stay home?"
  2. Question for the "powers that be": 10 was originally done away with due to the "rate of attrition" (2 relegated out of 10) being too high. Why is (potentially) 2 out of 10 now acceptable?

    A Quiz

Given that we're playing them in a cup final in a couple of weeks, in the same year as a Royal Wedding and they've already lost one domestic cup final this year.....

    A Quiz

Bingo! Since World War II, Celtic haven't won a national cup final played in the same year as a Royal wedding. Full details: 1947 – Wedding of Princess Elizabeth & Prince Philip. One Scottish Cup Final and two League Cup finals, did not play in any. 1973 – Wedding of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, Lost Scottish Cup Final (Rangers) and League Cup Final (Dundee). 1981 – Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Did not play in either final. 1986 – Wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. Did not play in Scottish Cup Final, lost League Cup Final (Rangers). 1999 – Wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones. Lost Scottish Cup Final (Rangers), no League Cup Final played in 1999.

Royal Weddings - correct. Congratulations to Cakes. Part 2 - What do these years all have in common in a Scottish Footballing sense?

An inventive answer, but no. ALL have something non-football in common.

Part 1: What do the following years have in common in a non-football sense? 1947, 1973, 1981, 1986, 1999 (Bear with me on this one)
  8. The Dougie Arnott Testimonial Committee is handling it......
  9. I think Mr. McCall's past managerial record could be described as, if one is in a generous mood, "inconsistent". Not that that means he shouldn't be given a chance - however, methinks his appointment had little to do with his record and a lot to do with what he's prepared to work with, and work for.
  10. Sound of hammer hitting nail..... Here's what they need to be told: "Without the rest of us, there is NO league. No league=no way into Europe. It's our way or the highway. Your move". Simple as that.

    Van Der Gaag

Dundee United Sunday night game with fiver admission after that?
  12. While the 'jester' one was absolutely minging, let us not forget that it was entirely appropriate, given that we were managed by a clown at the time....
  13. There's been some banter elsewhere that they didn't bring too many down for the game (the number 128 was being mentioned). Any truth?
  14. Not a decent pie to be had in this fucking country, Sir. Trust me, I've looked.... As an aside, did MFC ever collect on the judgement?

    Main Stand

Getting back to the matter in hand..... Looking at the 1921 film, it looks very like the same structure that apparently was incorporated into the current one, meaning that parts of it are coming up on 90! Interesting to note that the old stand at Stark's Park was also around then.

    Main Stand

That's the picture I'm talking about, which would seem to suggest that it was an "add-on" to an older structure.

    Main Stand

The question of why the Main Stand is the way it is came up recently on the excellent Football Ground Guide http://www.footballgroundguide.com/message_board.htm Looking at the picture of it being constructed in the centenary book, it appears as if it was built as an extension of the previous stand. Any idea how old that part is?
  18. I think that's broadly correct.
  19. Just been having a think about this - right now, we're on target for 46, and that assumes no progress in all cup competitions. Offhand, the most I can think of in a season is 48 in 1975-76 (36 league, 6 League Cup, 6 Scottish Cup). Any ideas as to the record for the club?
  20. Isn't there a UEFA regulation requiring visiting teams to be in the country at least 24 hours before kick-off? I recall this coming up before Manchester United played Wrexham some years ago, even though it was only about 60 miles away. (Edit) Apparently 48 hours, as mentioned above.
  21. I believe the club seriously looked at moving there before deciding to build the stand in the early 60s. As for now, no way you'd ever get to build a stadium in the middle of a housing scheme.
  22. No, Sir. When the whole postal code system was introduced, it was based around a series of what were known as "Mechanised Letter Offices". with automated sorting etc. The idea was that any mail for that particular code would go through the 'MLO' for onward distribution. Motherwell was one of them, hence the 'ML'.
  23. Appears TGFITW couldn't even half-fill Rugby Park on Saturday!

    Record Breakers?

Didn't Scott Howie keep seven straight clean sheets?
  25. Remember him playing at least once at FP (possibly against Falkirk?). He did come as a player-manager, remember.
