  1. Why's this in club chat? Royal weddings & Celtic's cup history has got what to do with Motherwell?

Given that we're playing them in a cup final in a couple of weeks, in the same year as a Royal Wedding and they've already lost one domestic cup final this year.....

  2. All years in which Celtic never won either of the Cups

Bingo! Since World War II, Celtic haven't won a national cup final played in the same year as a Royal wedding.

    Full details:

1947 – Wedding of Princess Elizabeth & Prince Philip. One Scottish Cup Final and two League Cup finals, did not play in any.

1973 – Wedding of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, Lost Scottish Cup Final (Rangers) and League Cup Final (Dundee).

1981 – Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Did not play in either final.

1986 – Wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. Did not play in Scottish Cup Final, lost League Cup Final (Rangers).

1999 – Wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones. Lost Scottish Cup Final (Rangers), no League Cup Final played in 1999.

  3. I think Mr. McCall's past managerial record could be described as, if one is in a generous mood, "inconsistent". Not that that means he shouldn't be given a chance - however, methinks his appointment had little to do with his record and a lot to do with what he's prepared to work with, and work for.

  4. Perhaps its time the non Mauld-Firm Clubs took a stance, and stood up to them for a fare share of the revenues. Lets face it, what can Rangers/Celtic do about it if we do ?

    Sound of hammer hitting nail.....

Here's what they need to be told: "Without the rest of us, there is NO league. No league=no way into Europe. It's our way or the highway. Your move". Simple as that.

  5. Getting back to the matter in hand.....

Looking at the 1921 film, it looks very like the same structure that apparently was incorporated into the current one, meaning that parts of it are coming up on 90! Interesting to note that the old stand at Stark's Park was also around then.

  6. Would that be the same plane the players would be going on? Bit of a gamble, travelling on the same day, if so?

Isn't there a UEFA regulation requiring visiting teams to be in the country at least 24 hours before kick-off? I recall this coming up before Manchester United played Wrexham some years ago, even though it was only about 60 miles away.

(Edit) Apparently 48 hours, as mentioned above.

  7. what about that racetrack place down near the old mill? or is it still used?

I believe the club seriously looked at moving there before deciding to build the stand in the early 60s. As for now, no way you'd ever get to build a stadium in the middle of a housing scheme.

  8. I'm pretty sure the ML in our postcodes stands for Mid Lanarkshire.

No, Sir. When the whole postal code system was introduced, it was based around a series of what were known as "Mechanised Letter Offices". with automated sorting etc. The idea was that any mail for that particular code would go through the 'MLO' for onward distribution. Motherwell was one of them, hence the 'ML'.
