  1. Not too bothered by the defeat at Ibrox. If we had played well we would be coming away saying how disappointed we were to play so well but still get beat. It is important that we play well and win against Accies and St Midden. If we do then there will be no chance of relegation. At the moment Accies have 14 points from 23 games. To pass us they would need to get 15 from their next 15 games assuming we lose every game.

My worry is that Craigan and Lasley played with injuries yesterday. I hope they are fully fit for Tuesday.

If there was the slightest chance that they would worsen their injuries they should not have played and if they have then this is rank bad management.

We have a very small squad and have been playing since the beginning of July. Players are jaded and need a rest but there is no one to bring in. If McCall is to blame its because he did not strengthen in the window so that we could rest some players.

Beat Accies and St Mirren and relegation is gone.

Bring in the young guys gradually over the last few months and see what they can do.

I don’t hold with all this talk of McCall liking Rangers. The missus brought in an Express after the Stranraer game and the report was almost all about Gunning Talking about Diouf and their time together at Blackburn. The press will always twist things to an Old Firm angle.

  2. So disappointed by the result today. I thought we out played them for a long spell in the second half. Lasley’s goal when it came was overdue. I still think we are a too slow in the build up. We need to break forward quicker.

Murphy did not have his best game but I would have liked to have seen him through the middle after Jones came on so that he could have tested Weir with his pace.

Rangers were crap and were there for the beating. Sadly we could not cash in.

Teams have sussed Humphrey out and double team on him. Papac is a good defender but Humph did beat him a couple of times but his crossing is still poor.

I thought Hutch stood up to the test well and it is a must that we get Jennings signed up. He was a stand out.

Big week coming up. Hope we can recover from the disappointment and beat Killie and get through in the cup.

  3. Surely Sunday is what supporting the Well is all about. The feeling we will get if we win will never be experienced by the glory hunters that follow the Scum. Ok most of us expect to lose but I will be there hoping to get the incredible high if we win. How about

Arnott 2 at Ibrox around 1993

O’Neill’s and Kirk ‘s goals in the semi against Celtic

    Spencer’s debut goal

Ross’s winner when Dolan went in goal

Beating Celtic when we were bottom and in administration

    Skippy Sunday

Just maybe we will be able to add Sunday to that list.

  4. Gunning played a lot of games for Rotherham. He was in their team that lost to Dagenham at Wembley in May. From the Wikipedia web site it looks as if he played left back that day in front of 30000 so he has some experience.

Hutchinson has been great since he came back but he has also been lucky. The mistake he made against Inverness could have cost us but it didn’t. He is a young player and will make mistakes. I will back all Well players but people on here are willing to back some more than others. If Craigan, Forbes or Fitzpatrick had made that mistake against Inverness there would have been a queue here waiting to moan about them.

If Gunning is our only signing I will be disappointed as the defence is not the main priority but as it stands we only have Hammell as a left footer so it does make some sense. As for all the young players who seem to be getting passed over McCall sees them everyday in training and we have to trust his judgement on whether they are ready or not.

We can’t judge players until they have played five or six games (remember Juke wasn’t great at the start) so there is no point speculating on here on how good Gunning will be.

Gunning may or may not be great and become a first pick but at the least he will help if Hammell, Hutchison or Craigan get injured.

Lets hope we get an attacking midfielder and a goal scorer in by Monday.

  5. I'm quite pleased about Humphrey signing on but he needs to fulfil his potential in the next year or so and then we can cash in on him. I'd be absolutely delighted though if it was Jennings that had signed an extension.

  6. The final against them a few years ago was a great day out until five past three. I’d love to see us put it right up them this time. I have my ticket but to be honest if we get more than 3500 then I will be surprised. Only die hard fans will go when its live on the telly. And lets face it Hampden is not the best place for a good view,

  7. This is now the big test for McCall. Any new manager likes to put his stamp on the team. When he came in he was told he would have to move players out before he could get new ones in. He’s now moved on four players. As far as I’m concerned he stands or falls with who he brings in. Here’s hoping he can spot a player like Gannon and can motivate them like Brown and Knox.

  8. When the draw was made I was sure I would be there. Third round of the cup has always been special. The last third round game I missed was Aberdeen in 91 until Inveruruie then Inverness last year. Doubt if I'll go this year £15 to get in and £30 for petrol. Four hours in the car yet a five minute walk to the pub 3 or 4 pints for the admission money and then home.

    Another habit broken.

Football has sold out to TV and I fear when the companies lose interest the game will die.

  9. Motherwell 3 - 0 Rangers

Kenny Miller to miss a penalty for Rangers. Craigan to open the scoring and Jamie Murphy to add two goals late on on the counter attack as the Attilas push for an equaliser.

Substitute Hurlock, Softie and Dougie and youve reminded me of one of the best ever wins we have had against them. It was 91 just before the cup final.

Oh how I wish your prediction comes true.

  10. I know a few lapsed Well fans mostly in the 50, 60, 70 age group.

Lots had season tickets in the past. Now they pay their Sky subscription – about £500 is it? Not much more than a centre stand season ticket for 20 games at Fir Park.

For that they get unlimited football.

They see stars from all over the world and get to compare the standard at Fir Park when they watch us in our five or six televised games. Comparing what they see with the rest of world football does not encourage them back.

In the sixties seventies and eighties if you wanted to see the big stars you had to go to the game. I remember going to Hampden in 1965 to see Brazil and Pele play Scotland.

Now Messi and the rest are in our living rooms every week. Yet the clubs want people to pay £20 plus to watch our average players.

TV has killed live football. Who in their right mind would travel from Edinburgh last Tuesday when the roads were bad it was minus 5 it cost £22 to get in and you could have stayed at home or went to you local spent a tenner on three pints and been warm and got a better view of the controversial incidents.

I don’t think the standard is any worse than it was 10, 20, years ago. It is just that we see all the top players now on TV and expect Scottish football to be as good.

  11. I am not overly impressed with any of the usual suspects mentioned here. Hughes is tactically naïve. Collins will divide the dressing room. McGlynn has built his success on signing Hearts youngsters and rejects. I suspect he will not have the contacts to progress us. Calderwood has built his success on bigger budgets than we will give him. Look at the state Dunfermline are in now. McCall failed at Bradford but no doubt will be punted by some in the media due to his Ibrox connections.

If it was to be any of these I would go for Calderwood only because he has shown that he can alter games with his tactical changes.

What will get me interested will be an appointment of someone we have not heard of. McGhee, Gannon and Brown were all different. There appointments were refreshing and had us all guessing what their approach would be. And credit to Boyle I thought they were all successful. ( the football in McGhee's first season was some of the best I have seen and Gannon made some great signings)

  12. For me the problems really started at the Accies game. They scored in 20 miniutes and then proceeded to stop any form of entertainment by pretending to be injured and time wasting.

Then we had Mr Sincerity himself shafting us. I am sure some of the tech wizards could put up interviews where he said he did not need a contract as he was here till Motherwell did not want him, he was loving it so much and it was his last job in football.

Then we had last night. One team, us, clearly hadn’t played for weeks, the other were a big physical lot who set out to bully us off the park. There was no skill on show. Then there was the ref.

In 50 years of watching football it’s the first time I’ve seen a player tackling someone taking a free kick getting away with it.

The ref had no clue and as for the East Stand linesman he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

For me football is a habit. I used to go to 90% of away games. Then I stopped going to Aberdeen, then Ibrox and Parkhead, then Dundee became too far.Last season I went to one away game, Hamilton.

Now my other half asks during the week are Motherwell at home this week. She knows that if they are away we will do something together.

For the first time in 20 years I am considering not buying a season ticket next year.

If I don’t I know the habit will fall away and I will become another lapsed supporter.
