He came on to a game latterly but I don't think he was good over the course. Maybe he needed a settling in period, or maybe he's just one of those guys that gives you a performance 3 times out of 10. Was never convinced by him.

No one else playing, aye?

I'm repeating myself but I think that it is going to be very hard for provincial, and especially fan owned provincial teams, to break into the Top 6 in the foreseeable future. There was a time when we could compete with much bigger clubs for players, we just can't do that any more and at the end of the day money buys quality. Hibs, who had nearly 20,000 people at their last match, and are now the third best supported team in the country, will surely be able to recruit enough quality to see them into the Top 6. It remains to see how the Cathro experiment goes at Hearts (personally, I suspect he'll get his jotters fairly soon into the new season) but I think we are probably looking at 1 realistic free spot in the Top 6 for the non city clubs to aim at and others are in a better position than us to get it, so I don't expect a Top 6 finish. What I'm really looking for is just improvement on last year, or over the general standard of the last few seasons. I want to see us better organised, tougher to beat, play more attractive football and make sure we don't ship goals and points from Fir Park. I'm a strong believer in the home ground being a fortress and no one should come to our place and have an easy game, that above anything else needs to be instilled into the team. I'd like us to ship out non contributors like Blyth and Clay, I'd like us to avoid injuries to important players and I'd like us to keep Louis Moult unless we get an offer we can't refuse.

It means we stayed in the top league.

With all due respect this is rubbish. Is Lasley the player he was? No. He was still worth a starting place though over younger midfielders who can't eclipse a 38 year old Lasley, never mind Lasley in his prime? Yes. By the way after the winter break Lasley started 50% of the matches (9 from 18) but managed to feature in 80% of our victories (4 out of 5). What does that tell you? In case you can't extrapolate it, I'll tell you - we were much better with him in the team than without.

We aren't in a debating league though. Every club in the land will be talking up their chances next season but few will be successful in achieving that. Talk is cheap and it's all about the results. That's what Robinson will be measured on. Since I shell out on a season ticket I certainly hope he is successful but I want to see some real evidence of that first.

I've always felt the claret away strip was completely pointless as it clashes more with the likes of Aberdeen, Hearts etc than our amber home strip does. The only other teams we'd need to wear an away kit against would be Partick and Hamilton and they have varying amounts of red in their strips as well.

Could do but I hope not. Don't think I've ever seen Motherwell play well with 1 striker. It's fine at the top level when you have high quality players across the park but whenever I see teams at our level try it it is usually dire with the striker isolated and high balls getting pumped aimless upfield. You might say we've done it in the past with the likes of McFadden, McDonald and Ojamaa playing off the main striker but those were really quality players who were more forwards than midfielders.

Looking at his record Tanner has averaged 1 goal in 10 at senior level. So you are looking at 3 or 4 goals a season unless he finds another gear.

2 year contracts can be good or bad. Blyth and Clay......

Not hugely excited by the draw - I've seen us play both Queens Park and Morton many times in the cups, but at least we should get an away day to either Edinburgh city or, my preference, to Berwick. -

Would like to visit some new lower league grounds. But I'd also like Ayr United because I like Somerset Park. Would be great if we took a good support down there on a opening day Saturday. -
Don't know anything about Bigirimana but what you hear seems promising. With Fisher I'm encouraged that we've got someone with a goal scoring record in the league but on the other hand 50% of his goals were against one team - us - and I'd like to know why he didn't do a thing until the run in. Still seems like an upgrade on what we've got.

Celtic U20s players are on two, two and a half times the wages of our top first team earners. He'd have to take a big drop in wages to come to Motherwell. Will more likely join a Hibs or Aberdeen or go to Championship/League 1 level in England.

Was reading an Ayr Utd thread and it's claimed we are sniffing around their keeper Greg Fleming. He will know Fir Park from having been Gretna's keeper back in the day. Last time I was down at Ayr ( v Brechin, two seasons ago) he got a clean sheet which was probably the last time I saw a clean sheet!

Rangers continuing to throw money on the fire!

Let's hope so.

Great player for us. Became our highest scoring player in the Premier era this season. He's also one of the biggest transfer fees we've ever received. Perhaps more importantly he counteracted the Malpas effect and almost single handedly kept us up that season. Would be in my Motherwell XI along side Tommy Coyne and there aren't many other recent players in there, only him, McFadden and Randolph. We will miss him big time next season.

Depends what kind of balls into the box Robinson wants. I'd associate Ainsworth with making runs to the near post byline and then playing low balls across the box rather than pinging high crosses in. And for whatever reason I half suspect Robinson has a candle lit shrine in his house devoted to Alan Cork/Mick Harford/John Fashanu.

Tom Fry did nothing at Annan and that's League 2. Annan were on a good run and perhaps it was difficult to break into the team but I'm sure the club was expecting more.

Scored half his goals against us this season. Haber-esque.

Was a cracking header - reminded me of Gullit in the European Championship final!
