  1. Rangers continuing to throw money on the fire!
  2. Great player for us. Became our highest scoring player in the Premier era this season. He's also one of the biggest transfer fees we've ever received. Perhaps more importantly he counteracted the Malpas effect and almost single handedly kept us up that season. Would be in my Motherwell XI along side Tommy Coyne and there aren't many other recent players in there, only him, McFadden and Randolph. We will miss him big time next season.
  3. Depends what kind of balls into the box Robinson wants. I'd associate Ainsworth with making runs to the near post byline and then playing low balls across the box rather than pinging high crosses in. And for whatever reason I half suspect Robinson has a candle lit shrine in his house devoted to Alan Cork/Mick Harford/John Fashanu.
  4. Tom Fry did nothing at Annan and that's League 2. Annan were on a good run and perhaps it was difficult to break into the team but I'm sure the club was expecting more.
  5. Scored half his goals against us this season. Haber-esque.
  6. Was a cracking header - reminded me of Gullit in the European Championship final!
  7. Congratulations to our 5th top goalscorer this season - James McFadden.
  8. Houston mentioned last night there were minimum fee clauses on Sibbald - £200,000 for a Scottish club and £400,000 for an English club. So I think we can rule him out.
  9. Ha! Tuesday. I work night shift so I'm never sure what day it is!
  10. Apparently on his way down south.
  11. If there are more players like Clay next season we are down. Nowhere near good enough. It's not even close.
  12. I didn't want Robinson back in the first place and certainly not as manager. I remain unconvinced by him over his tenure but we stayed up and you have to give the guy a chance to rebuild over the summer. In terms of style of football I think we have been pretty dire since Robinson took over, albeit I seemed to have missed our best performance under him on Wednesday, so I want to see a big improvement on that score. We also have to seriously improve our home form. The result in midweek feels like a huge weight off everyone but looking forward, with another city club coming into the league, a big rebuild required, and limited funds I think he is going to have his work cut out for him.
  13. I agree it was a terrible decision but it wasn't Hughes. Vaughan was sent there by the Raith board a month before Hughes was appointed as manager.
  14. I've not put the midweek results into my stats yet but the overall picture is clear, they are the lowest scorers in the league averaging less than a goal per game. Fighting for your life against a safe Ross County who didn't have much to play and still not winning doesn't bode well for Accies.
  15. If we ever move to summer football I'd sign up Ainsworth in a flash. He's some player in May and August.
  16. I'm no Hughes fan boy but Raith's relegation had more to do with them going 15 matches of the season without a win. 11 of them were outside Hughes tenure. The almost unprecedented rise from the dead of St. Mirren in the second half of the season when they went from the worst team in the division to probably the best was also pretty extraordinary.....and unfortunate for Raith. Raith had a lot of hard luck, from going into the play offs on goal difference with two other teams, to losing a penalty shoot out having equalized in injury time and then taking the lead in extra time. Ultimately it comes down to players. Raith probably had a bottom three squad in the Championship last season, Dumbarton continue to achieve miracles, so Raith's time was up. Hughes record wasn't bad under the circumstances but he perhaps over estimated his ability and underestimated the rut Raith Rovers were in. Should they have beaten Brechin - yes. But it came down to a mad 2nd half, extra time and penalties and as the old cliche goes 'football's a funny old game'.
  17. I think Accies will be more vulnerable in the play off than Inverness. Inverness have had a poor season but they aren't a poor team. There are some very good players in there and they have actually lost fewer games than us or Dundee this season. Accies are really struggling for goals. You have to go back to November to find them scoring two goals in a match without the aid of a penalty. If you look at both Falkirk and Dundee Utd their goal power far exceeds their ability to keep them out. If Accies can't score twice in a match they won't win the play off.
  18. If we got Scougall I'll do a handstand and bellow "yasssshhhhhuurrghhh"
  19. Sadly Ainsworth is just one of those guys with all the talent in the world but what for ever reason just can't tap it on a consistent basis. And I don't think it's right to blame managers or positions he's played. It's him. But even though he was pish 75% of the time I'll still feel a bit sentimental if/when he goes. He's given us some great memories and good luck to him in the future if that's him away.
  20. Are you saying Hammell isn't the best crosser in the team? I just said he doesn't get into advanced positions as much as he used to so obviously there is going to be less assists.
  21. Carey is a player with an excellent final ball. Something we lack when Hammell isn't around. And lets face it Hammell doesn't get into advanced positions as much as he once did.
  22. Ya Bezzer!

    Lasley.

Pretty much this. In fact Strachan said he would have played at international level if he had more pace. I think this says it all Keith Lasley is 38 years old and he's still a first pick midfielder. Even now, when he's not the player he was, he's a much better player than many younger players in our squad. In fact with the ball in front of him I think we'll be lucky to get anyone better. Lasley's problem now is when the ball is behind him he just can't get back anymore. However, he's basically there because he's seen off all challengers for 11 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Craigan, Hammell, Lasley - these guys were the very core of one of the most successful periods in the clubs history. Perhaps in hindsight they will be appreciated more than I think they have been by some in the present. Next season - I think Lasley could still be a good player at a lower level if he wanted to continue. He could even be a useful squad player for us. But now is the time to move forward - the squad needs a huge rebuild and now is probably time for Lasley to take that step back. We'll miss him though and when will we see his likes again?
