Again its hard to judge because we don't know much about the opposition, however Albania football is a decent standard and the heat is likely to effect us more than them. Flamurtari finished down the league and only qualified by winning the cup so they aren't one of the strongest sides in their league you have to imagine so I'd hopeful we can get some kind of result that keeps the tie alive. I'd be disappointed if we didn't make the next round because although they won't be easy meat I'd be surprised if they were better than say a St. Mirren or a Kilmarnock and although those teams can beat us, if we play to our ability we should be winning over two legs. We need to be professional, focused and play well to progress but if we do those things I'd expect us to get through.

I think Fletcher is a slightly more developed player than Clarkson but there isn't 2 million pounds of a difference. The difference is that Hibs can keep players on better contracts (higher wages/longer contracts) which makes them less likely to be lured away and gives them the option of refusing advances. They are also financially secure from having secured good deals previously. We operate on slim margins and can't negotiate as hard with buyers and we can't offer players contracts of a similar level which means more clubs can lure our players away. In the end any product is only worth its market value, a can of Coke doesn't sell for the same price in London than it does in Mexico City, even if its essentially the same thing.

What's the implications of this for the team? What about the away strip?
-
We don't want to give them the free publicity. Let them wallow in the obscurity of the Second Division!

This is what it they are saying on the site. Some of it may be lost in translation! 11-07-09 16:29 Flamurtari: motherwell club has terheque statements fans not to come in Vlore after consultation was held with the foreign ministry of Scotland. Motherwell will receive 400 tickets, but only 50-100 Scotswoman fans will come to vl according to those forecasts. 10-07-09 19:27 colitis: where you lose nothing .... hahaha Flamurtari-matherwell a game that was .. and a must win game that will play with spirit and blood to be released some time and appear (will mean a footballer with fellow) ... only two things marim will be safe from this game ....1-journey-2-Euro and experience .. as big or small we will be .. this game will look as the leather value Flamurtari ... will satisfy or please us to finish the match as soon as possible to be?? and how I wish every fan sdo nothing other than victory or a presentation or as worthy because the disqualification is not ashamed ... disqualification with degeneracy would be ashamed, first for themselves and for the fans ... Flamurtari these teams is likely to transcend but do not forget the tour in as fans and players Flamurtari staff also said that in 96 when it lozëm Slovak team, humene, and then lost two matches. "The Foreign Office....says crime and violence still represent a serious problem in some areas, with gun ownership widespread." So would they advise against traveling to Florida?

They didn't mention anything in the after match interviews. If Sutton is injured we are in trouble because no one else scores. OK, Murphy scored last night but we are still heavily over reliant on Sutton.

Sorry Guys....unhappy Topic But Need Some Help!
Ya Bezzer! replied to walking down the Fir Park's topic in Club Chat
Terrible, some real scumbags about. Those cowardly thugs are probably too stupid to realise what could have happened as a result of their actions, although what did happen was bad enough! Hopefully the old guy is back at Fir Park next season and the scumbags aren't. -
Maybe Paul Slane can take Jim O'Brien under his wing can teach him about quality delivery.

He was in front of me in the queue at the pie stall at the first leg. Obviously couldn't wait for the complimentaries at half time. Oh and I'm watching my figure, I only bought a coke.

I think Boyle and Gannon have been careful with their language. When they say there is 'money available' I think they mean that there is money in the wages budget to bring new players in. When they say they will bring in 5 or 6 new players well that's still fewer than the small squad we had last season. I'd be very surprised if we paid out transfer fees that were anything more than nominal. It will be Bosman and free transfers that come in and season 2009/10 WILL be a season of cut backs.

I think the days of a 'group' deal are numbered. Television is already a dying medium and the internet enables clubs to set up their own channels at relatively little cost. It won't be long before Rangers and Celtic pull out of any SPL deal and keep their 'own' cash. I'd pay to download matches, highlights etc but not so much interested in 'magazine' type programming. The problem is with a support our size it might not be cost effective, whereas even teams like Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts could generate much more income with a fan base three times bigger.

Surely Fitzpatrick and Smith have to come in? Slane did enough for a starting position also. And Page should start over Saunders because that boy, and I've seen him a few times now, is never a player (unless he's keeping his talent well hidden!) Fraser Page Craigan Reynolds Hammell Murphy Lasley Fitzpatrick Smith Slane Sutton

Paul Quinn and Shaun McSkimming shouldn't be anywhere near a Worst 11. Miko Kaven regularily gets trotted out as the worst goalkeeper but I've got videos of him and he was far from the worst, in fact in a couple of his few appearances he played a blinder.

4 goals in 55 matches and one of them was a penalty. Brian McLean had a better goal scoring record.

Realistic Scores For Away Legg < See What I Did There?
Ya Bezzer! replied to jonnymfc's topic in Club Chat
I don't think the team we have at the moment is capable of scoring three goals. I've already highlighted our pathetic scoring record in another thread. If we can score two goals, win or win on away goals then - hallelujah. -
I think this was probably the worst result in the clubs history. The fact that it was a UEFA cup match raises its importance over domestic matches like Alloa and Queens Park games. Also, people are saying things like, they are "the 2nd best team in Wales" but really, no offense to Llanelli fans, but that Llanelli team would be lucky to survive in the Scottish 2nd Division and probably isn't even 3rd Division quality. They were the worst team we've ever played in a competitive match in my life time and we still lost. I was worried before hand, I thought Llanelli would be of a decent standard, not SPL, but decent but when I saw them warming up you could see just how bad their basic touch and ability was. I was sure, even with the depleted squad we could win 3-0 or 4-0 without too much effort. We SHOULD have done but obviously that didn't happen. It was shameful and then and now I still wouldn't care less if every player that played that night had his contracted ripped up and was shown the door. It was that bad.
-
OK, we need to replace Clarkson but Sutton is our ONLY chance of getting through his tie which is not to say he played well last night incidentally. Here's the league goal tallies from last season for the side we put out last night Fraser - 0 Saunders - 0 Craigan - 0 Reynolds - 0 Hammell - 0 Murphy - 2 McGarry - 0 Lasley - 0 Forbes - 0 O'Brien - 1 Sutton - 10 Slane - 0 McHugh - 0 If you exclude Sutton from that you have 3 goals from 212 league appearances. If you include the 6 cup games last season its even worse. Outside Sutton (2 goals) only Murphy scored adding 1. It's an absolutely shocking statistic.
-
Humble Pie? He was right. Llanelli were shite. They were more shite than you could possibly imagine. They were the worst team I can ever remember Motherwell playing in a competitive fixture. The problem is we were even worse.
-
Lets not bring McGhee into this. I could pick ten pals and beat that team. They were just fucking shocking and didn't care a hoot. Well, I don't have a job right now and I shelled out £30 on that while the players took a huff about having to come back early from their fucking holidays. As for the youngers some of them looked like they'd never seen a football before. Some of them couldn't even kick a ball cleanly. Five year old kids can kick balls cleanly but footballers on pro contracts can't. Steven Saunders 4th appearance tonight and in all 4 we've failed to score a goal and lost all of them....
-
If Paul Slane doesn't get 100% in this poll some people need their head read.
-
I agree with most of this except its far too early to be comparing Slane with McFadden! Also Sutton CAN do a job for us if he has a partner to play off, as a lone striker he's next to useless but you can't just write off the fact that his tally was in double figures last season, especially when we have no other player capable of scoring a goal in the squad. I think Gannon made a big mistake not using Fitzpatrick and Smith. Smith would have at least been direct and pacey, Fitzpatrick would have at least battled hard. But you can't really blame him much since he doesn't know the players well but hopefully they'll get a chance next time.
-
Shameful, deplorable and inexcusable. I expected Llanelli to be equivalent to a good 2nd Division side. They weren't even equivalent to a run of the mill Junior side. That was the worst Motherwell performance I've ever seen against the worst opposition I've ever seen and probably the worst result in the clubs history. It's also an utter embarrassment for the club and for the country. You could literally have picked a team out the crowd tonight that would have competed against Llanelli and that a squad of professional footballers, and I don't care what age or level of experience they have, a squad of professional footballers couldn't beat a side with an 18 stone central midfielder. Absolutely shocking. Lets go through the side shall we? Fraser - 5 - had nothing to do against a pub team and STILL couldn't keep a clean sheet. You could literally, without joking, have put a dummy in goals for Motherwell tonight and it wouldn't have effected the score. Saunders - 4 - I know he's young and inexperience but seriously, I've seen a couple of times now and he is NEVER a SPL level player. He's slow, doesn't tackle, has no strength, can't pass, can't cross under no or little pressure etc etc. How has this guy made through your youth set up when he can't even do the basics? Craigan - 5 - Ropey at times but had very little defending to do. Reynolds - 6 - Again had nothing to do. Hammell - 5 - Didn't get forward, to be fair probably suffered more than most from the fitness element of tonight since it was hard to make the runs but still not good enough tonight. O'Brien - 4 - An attacking midfielder that can't score or create, a winger that can't cross, what exactly does he do other than run around like a kid on smarties. Apparently this is good enough for some Motherwell fans but we are still waiting for this guy to show anything other than endevour and thats not good enough. Forbes - 5 - Far from the worst offender but hardly inspiring. Lasley - 4 - Has been a great club servant but lets be honest here his last good performance was way back in 2008. He needs to get back to form quickly or else. As one of the most experienced and better players we had available tonight I feel really let down by him tonight. McGarry - 4 - I was willing to give him a chance but after tonight he's had his chips. Find a new club McGarry. Murphy - 4 - Another young player but you can't call him inexperienced anymore because he must have played close to 50 matches now for Motherwell and hand on heart how many of them could you honestly say he was anything other than mediocre? Sutton - 5 - He was an empty shirt tonight but at least he's proved he can score goals when given the opportunity. He's a finisher and nothing more. We know that so you can't really blame him to much if the other 10 players have no creativity whatsoever. Slane - 7 - Only bright spot tonight was this kid. If he doesn't start in the 2nd leg....
-
That looks a decent enough team but like I said I'd like someone on the bench that could come on and cause problems which is why I'd pick McGarry over Smith and keep Smith for the last 20 minutes or so.
