Its difficult to make a prediction because most of us haven't ever seen Llanelli play and we don't really know how we will play due to the fitness situation and all the other turmoil thats been going on lately. Hopefully they will be garbage and we finish the thing off tomorrow but I think its more likely it will be a close run thing. We don't have many goals in the squad right now and I'd be surprised if we keep a clean sheet so I'll go with... 2-1 to the 'Well I don't see the home and away legs meaning much in this tie, we should be looking to win both games, even if I don't expect Llanelli to roll over.

I think Falkirk have made quite an astute signing here.
-
We need players in for sure and Jennings could turn out to be a good signing but I have concerns that we are losing young local players that came through the ranks and we are going to end up with a team of 7 or 8 lower division players from England who will be here for a year or two. I wouldn't want to go back to the Davies era. Anyway, hopefully Jennings does well for us if he signs on the dotted line.

My answer to that would be this is a knock out competition and you have to put out the strongest possible line up you can. We are undoubtedly weaker in that position if Quinn doesn't play. If we can put the tie to bed in the first leg then perhaps younger players can be experimented with but I don't think its going to be quite that easy.

Maybe the refs are a bit fairer in the Europa But then Anders Frisk pops into my head So maybe not!

If there is no firm cash bid in for him he should play in my opinion but I don't know whats going on behind the scenes. I put McGarry in because we only have 12 players and I'd like genuine width in the side, if you put Murphy up front in a 4-4-2 that makes the team a little unbalanced in midfield, unless you put Darren Smith in the starting eleven and then you don't really have anything even approaching an 'impact' player coming off the bench. With 15 minutes to go I'd much rather have Smith coming on than McGarry.

Thanks. That's cheered me up a bit. Not been too happy for the last few days although it didn't have much to do with the manager position!

McGhee said he wasn't interested in signing Klimpl about a week ago.
-
Some right dicks over on the Bristol board. Clarkson is a 'boring' signing brought in from 'obscurity' who is not 'Bristol class' and is 'completely unknown'. And people in Motherwell still use 'horse and carts' apparently.

600k is a joke and we'll live to regret this transfer. Maybe sooner rather than later.

Retiring a shirt number is forgetting not remembering.

I think you are being optimistic about crowd numbers. For a Div 1 season think mid week League Cup match, ie 3,500 odd. Also I'll stand by 'Well whatever division they are but I do not want to go INTO a season thinking 'were are going to struggle all season, have regular humping at Fir Park off pish teams and possible get relegated having sold all our best players'. It's a new season, the great leveller, everyone is on the same points, everyone should go into the first game with hopes. Our season starts next week and the closer it gets the greater the feeling of dread I get.

£800,000 in exchange for a shitty season. No thanks. I see black clouds forming into the phrase 'Motherwell Season 2009/10'.
-
If successful, how long do you think he'd hang around at Fir Park? Longer than McGhee did? Fair play to Motherwell for looking outside Scotland and trying to get a biggish name but I think most of these guys are at it. People said McGhee was a mercenary but what makes anyone think any of these 'final four' wouldn't be back down South in a flash. It's a gap in their CV and we could be going through the same tedious process a year from now. It'd even surprise me if some of these guys aren't even interested in the job if offered, it just gets their name in the newspaper.

Why should Llanelli give up home advantage on what is probably a tight little ground and rent a 15,000 seater stadium just to accommodate maybe an extra 1,000 - 1,200 'Well fans? £15,000 minus extra policing, stewarding, stadium costs, tax etc. Doesn't make much sense from a Llanelli point of view.

Looks like the 2nd Qualifying round is made today as well - didn't know that. What chance Falkirk?!
-
Going by past European form Inter Baku would be the toughest of those options. They played four matches in the Champions League qualifiers last season and only lost one of them. They have also beaten Austrian and Finnish teams in the Inter Toto Cup.

I'm not worried too much about the squad and manager situation, that will get sorted out before the league campaign starts. What I will say is if we lose Clarkson it will be a bottom six season again and probably not one where we are way ahead of the rest with no real pressure. He's the player that separates us from being a Top 6 challenger rather than relegation battlers.

Three main contenders win percentages as managers Gary McAllister 47.16% Steve Staunton 35.29% Lawrie Sanchez 28.38%

No one has ever had a dead manager before. Thinking out the box, I like it! In all seriousness of the candidates named so far I'd go for Gordon Chisholm or President Putin.

A Wee Piece Of Nonsense Poll To Pass The Time
Ya Bezzer! replied to Haggischomper's topic in Club Chat
Kevin Christie had a couple of good games... -
Before we played in claret and amber we played in blue and white. I'd like to see us have a 'Scotland' style away strip. It would be a nice change from recent efforts. I'm not a fan of reversing the claret and amber colours because more often than not when we wear a change strip its against Hearts or Aberdeen and its too similar to their colours.

At top form McCormack is a better player but Clarkson is more likely to reach his top form than McCormack who is a bit moodier and can fall out of matches. As a striker I'd pick Clarkson over McCormack. Out wide I'd pick McCormack over Clarkson. So I guess going by your rules I'd pick Clarkson. -
Based on their performances at Fir Park I'd say Clarkson is a better goal scorer than McCormack but then look at how many goals McCormack scored at Cardiff. Clarkson is more team orientated, a more consistent performer and a harder worker. McCormack has better pace and is better on the ball and has better techincal skill. I would be very reluctant to sell Clarkson for anything less than £750,000. He's the best player at our club and one of the better players in the league, an international, and is experienced but is still young to learn and develop. I think selling him 'on the cheap' simply to get some money for him would be a big mistake. We've already saw what happened when McCormack went. He was the player that provided our offensive spark, that got the rest of the team playing and when he went we lost something, especially when Clarkson missed a string of games mid season - surprise, surprise that was when we went on our run of bad form. If Clarkson, who took on that role this season, was also to go we'd have virtually no punch up front or creativity and without goals we'd be struggling along side Kilmarnock, St.Mirren, Falkirk etc. The difference between them and us is really only that we've had goalscorers over the past few seasons McFadden, McDonald, McCormack, Porter, Clarkson, even Sutton to an extent, if we keep selling them will come a time when the goals dry up and then we will be in trouble. Clarkson will score 10-15 goals next season for us, contribute more than a few assists and generally cause a lot of problems for the opposition. Selling him for less than £750,000 might well be a false economy if we finish well down the league, get knocked out of Europe, do nothing in the cups etc. Unless someone is prepared to stump up a realistic fee then keeping him for another season is probably going to be worth more to the club than selling him for some measly amount.
