  1. Totally agree with this. For a start Murphy hasn't done anything of note for months and is in danger of being exposed to too much too young. Besides that we actually played after Porter when off without a striker when we were putting pressure on Falkirk and should have been trying to win. However, there was nothing in the box to aim at and we never really looked like scoring the winner in the last 10 minutes (+5). Poor decision by McGhee. Even if he didn't want Sutton on, put on Darren Smith who has at least the height and strength to win a header in the box.
  2. You are not the only person to think this by any means but, with all due respect, I think you are talking a lot of rubbish. What are you basing this on? The one game he played on the left side where he had a nightmare or the loads of games in the center of defense where he has played blinders? OK, I fully accept he's not been as good as he was when he first burst into the team but it wasn't that long ago Motherwell fans were complaining that Darren Barr had been called up to the Scotland squad and Mark Reynolds hadn't and this was based on his performances at center back not as a left sided player. People forget he is still a young player learning the game and I think he has suffered this season from a) being tagged as a million pound player and the link with Rangers and b) missing an experienced partner for a lot of the season. Just like Clarkson he can come back again not just to his past form but become an even better player than he was before but supporters need to let him mature as a defender and get off his back because his potential to be a really good player is still there even if his form has suffered a bit lately.
  3. Arrgghhhh!!!! Robbery at Fir Park! In some ways I'd rather we'd played garbage cos these games are hard to take! Should have been about 5-0! Fitzpatrick and Porter both missed candidates for 'sitter of the season'. The referee was a complete joke and McBride should be ashamed of himself for his tackle on Hammell. Smith - 5 Not much to do and no chance with the goal but was really shaky in the closing stages. Quinn - 6 Good match but as usual his deliver into the box let him down. Craigan - 6 As soon as he was off the park we lost the goal.... Reynold - 5 Another one who although he didn't have much to do looked shaky Hammell - 7 Gave Falkirk all sorts of problems going forward and when he went off we had no good ball into the box O'Brien - 7 Gave us a wide option and looked dangerous going forward Hughes - 5 Another disappointing display from Hughes Fitzpatrick - 6 Did better at left back than in midfield, should have scored a sitter. Klimpl - 7 Good performance, a candidate for MotM especially in the second half Clarkson - 7 Hit the bar once (or was it twice?) and took his goal well. Showed why he is so important to us. Porter - 7 Worked his socks off but....those chances! Lasley - 6 Came on as a sub and battled away Murphy - 1 Not much impact except a wayward shot
  4. Nah, we want Adidas Tango balls. Tango = Platini, Maradona, Zico, Socrates, Rummenigge, Michael Laudrup etc etc. That was the era for me!
  5. Here's one of those statistics that usually come back to bite you on the ass. Falkirk haven't scored more than once in a SPL match in 12 games. If we score we are guaranteed at least a point! (touch wood).
  6. Clarkson is the best player at the club.
  7. Man, those goalkeepers were pish! No wonder Greavsie and Emlyn Hughes just to joke about us and Alan Rough won 50 odd caps!
  8. At this stage finishing in the Top 6 would be a good recovery. I don't really see 3rd place or Europe as a realistic proposition unless we hit some seriously good form, i.e beating all the teams above us at least once.
  9. I've been a critic of Smith at times but I think he's a better goalkeeper than Fraser. You have to give players a chance but I have some real reservations about this one. I'd rather we had tried to bring in a keeper from the lower leagues with a good reputation like Tuffey or Gallacher.
  10. I hope this Fraser deal is as a back up keeper because I don't rate him at all. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but my reaction to this is 'oh no!'
  11. Again, like the Europe issue, folks need to calm down. I've only seen Klimpl twice, once he was shakey, the other time he put in a reasonable performance. It's entirely possible he's played great in all the games I've not seen but let's judge this guy when he's played 20 - 25 games at the end of the season instead of 6 or 7 now.
  12. You have to laugh. At the beginning of the season everything was terrible and the team were useless and the manager didn't have his heart in it and we were going to get relegated, then we went on a wee run and it was Top 6 and Europe Here We Come. Then we hit a bad spell again and it was gloom and doom and McGhee could get to fuck and the players weren't good enough and we were in a relegation struggle, then we hit a good batch and its Top 6 and Europe Here We Come. The Motherwell support has some kind of bi-polar condition! People need to calm down a bit. If you have your sights set on Europe next season and nothing else you are likely to be disappointed. It's going to be tough for us to make the Top 6, although very possible. It is going to be even harder to make a European place. As someone else said take it one game at a time and adjust your expectations accordingly because this is Motherwell and its usually one hell of a rollercoaster ride.
  13. All very good goals but Dundee United looked like they had a bit of a shocker in defence. I've said this on many occasions before but Quinn needs to get to the byline more often. Too often he hits crosses in from 25 - 18 yards out which are useless, yesterday we got the first goal because he went to the byline and hit a cross in that was actually dangerous. Hopefully we'll see more of that in future.
  14. Great result but we need to follow it up with a result against Falkirk. They have been a tricky team for us in recent times.
  15. Quit time wasting Smith! WE WANT 10!, WE WANT 10!
  16. How many goals is that against Dundee Utd for Clarkie now? About 147 or something?
  17. Holy shit! I'm in the seclusion of the university library today writing away. I put the latest score up on the internet and it's 3-0 and it's not even half time yet. Sound like good goals as well. Unbelievable considering Dundee Utd's long unbeaten run. Hope we don't turn off in the second half....
  18. Davie Cooper is a Motherwell legend because he was one of the most technically gifted players in WORLD FOOTBALL and he played some of his best years at Motherwell. He also featured in the only Motherwell team to win a major trophy in 60 years. What's more, does anyone believe we would have won the trophy without Coops? He gave confidence and inspired Motherwell to play beyond the level they had been playing before he arrived. Not only that he had a great rapport with the support and when you put all those things you get Motherwell Legend. I think it would be pretty pathetic if the We-Hate-The-OF brigade tried to take that status away just because he was a Rangers fan. Davie Cooper was in the Top 1% of Motherwell Greats and that is why a stand is named after him.
  19. I don't want to sound like someone's grandfather but a lot of younger people have never been through economic hard times and don't really understand what its all about. Already the signs are the one were are entering is going to be much, much worse than the recession in the early 1990's and possibly on the same scale as the one back in the late '70's to early '80's. I was brought up in that period and it was whole different world from the last 25 years or so, I can tell you. Lots of people are going to lose their jobs, people in jobs will have to take pay cuts or freezes and no one is going to be throwing cash around on 'luxury' items and that means football games. Next season I think you can expect to see a vast reduction in season ticket holders all across Scotland. Our priority now should be making sure the club gets through this. Our attendances have already dropped significantly in the last few months despite 'record' season ticket sales, they will continue to dwindle in 2009 and possibly for longer. This is going to effect every football club but I think its pretty obvious that if we get into debt again like we did before then Motherwell FC won't make it this time. Remember the last time we were in this economic climate we went from being a pretty strong side to a team that a few seasons in Division 1 with 2,000 or so fans turning up. It's going to be tough times ahead, so be ready for it and support your team because we are entering uncertain times where anything could happen, including the worst thing of all.

    Chris Porter

I think £200,000 is a reasonable offer considering anyone can pick him up for nothing in a few months.
  21. Inverness have won 3 times at home in a full calendar year, and two of them were last season so I don't think that is a big surprise. I think most of the supporters want Brewster out now and feel the same way about him as we did about Malpas. Falkirk have struggled this year to. A couple of weeks ago there was nearly 5,000 people at the Raith Rovers/East Fife game in the second division. The modern fan just isn't prepared to follow a club through thick and thin now, they will turn out for derby matches, big games or to watch a successful side but if they are struggling, forget it.

Yeah, I love this fan logic where if a player actually comes out and tells the truth that he's leaving he's public enemy number one, whereas if a player talks a lot of bullshit about maybe signing a new contract and not making his mind up yet (all the while getting their agent to bag a lucrative move behind the scenes) everyone loves them and they 'leave with the fans best wishes'.

    Sutton

From what I saw midweek we've adapted our tactics to make us a bit more solid, sort of a 4-1-3-1-1 with Klimpl and Clarkson on either side of the midfield and Porter upfront. Sutton is the type of forward that needs a partner in my opinion, he's not suited to either the role Porter is currently playing or the one Clarkson fulfils. He's a 4-4-2 player, kind of like a Kris Boyd in that he's not adept at doing all the graft but will play off a partner and find spaces and chances and score goals. He was doing that earlier but then came our bad form and now a tactical change. I think its pretty obvious McGhee has made the decision that we are not going to play in a cavalier fashion anymore and that it's probably going to be one up front from now on. At least until things stabilize and we move away from the bottom.
  24. I think Mehmet is more 'Porter' like than Sutton is in terms of his style of play.
  25. Billy Mehmet would be a decent signing if Porter goes. He's come on strongly in the last couple of seasons, has put in some impressive displays at Fir Park when ever St.Mirren have come visiting and has scored goals for a team that don't score many goals. The thing that would surprise me is that St.Mirren would be willing to let go a player than scores about 50% of their goals.
