  1. At least it was spelled correctly, given the weegies had banners saying "bloostained" and "legned" last season. I suppose legally you can't really complain but as those above have said common sense should have prevailed. Either the flag should have been taken off him prior to kick off or the stewards could have had a quiet word when he got in. It's frustrating that you very rarely hear of a Celtic/Rangers arrest, especially considering you hear them singing sectarian/pro terrorist songs on a game by game basis.

I remember Adams getting interviewed on the official site about two years later and he criticised the fans for the level of abuse he took that day!

You can get booked far too easily in football now. It's getting to the point where it's spoiling the game.
  4. Haha, I had almost forgotten about Accies bid for Jamie Murphy. I think the papers have ran a couple of lazy stories about Murphy to Rangers, no direct quote etc. They are almost certain to do that with Celtic/Randolph.

I can't believe how picky you are being Steelboy. If you had said to me at the start of the season in our first four games we'd have had four shouts and three wins I'd have taken it instantly. Fair enough yesterday wasn't the best performance ever, but sometimes you have to grind out resutls. We are Motherwell, we are not going to play total football for ninety minutes every week. In plenty of past seasons and under plenty of past managers we would not have won that game yesterday. That's the fickle nature you'd expect from a Sellick or Rangers fan, moaning like that whilst top of the league. And another thing, whether Ross Forbes can play in a 4-4-2 is irrelevant to this thread. He played in a 4-5-1 yesterday and played very well. For the record, I voted Crags.

To be honest, there isn't really a good ref in the division, you come away from most games questioning a decision or four. However, yesterday I thought he was a lot more picky about our fouls than he was theirs. At times it's hard to be rational but if Lennon saw it that way then fair play.
  7. Can't think of much to add that hasn't already been said. Despite sitting with minutes to go thinking we hadn't been brilliant, you have to look at the saves Craig Samson made. I don't think Humphrey looked fit yesterday. Next week I'd probably go with the same formation, bring in Lasley for Humphrey (if he is struggling for fitness), play Law on the right and Forbes just ahead of Lasley and Jenno. If we do line up with the same formation, the midfield will need to get closer to Higdon!

Took him all of three minutes to label Craigan pish. I don't think anyone at the game yesterday would disagree that Crags was superb!
  9. Wish him a speedy recovery. Being halted by injuries at that point in your career can never be good. I would still make signing a defender our priority. I'm happier with the prospect of Page deputising than McHugh deputising,
  10. Heard a while back it was in a bit of trouble and was going to have to raise prices of booze and charge admission fees to keep afloat. Never set foot in it in my life right enough, Daniels or Electric would always be the preferred option.
  11. I can't decide who I want to fill Lasley's boots really. My first instinct was to move Hateley into the middle, and shift Saunders to right back with Hutchy returning, but Hateley had a superb game yesterday at right back and it may be stupid to move him. I then thought Forbes. As you all know I'm a big fan of Forbes, but I don't think a midfield two of Jennings and Forbes can cover the ground Lasley does. I also wouldn't want to move Law inside, as although he had some good games on the left last year, Murphy upfront is more effective than Murphy out wide. Carswell is always an option too. I think I would go with plan A and grudingly move Hateley.

    Hearts - Motm

Could have gone to anyone today, great team performance, I opted for Jennings, his break up of play was superb.
  13. Hutchinson will definitely be back in if he's fit. I am undecided, I think Forbes deserves a chance but alongside Jennings isn't the most mobile. I think shifting Hateley and Saunders might upset the balance too much. At least the suspension is coming in an area we do have cover for.
  14. It's a famous Ron Atkinson quote haha. So Yir is either quoting that or at a similar level of intelligence to Ron Atkinson....
  15. Mehmet would have been on a fair whack at that Turkish mob, only Hearts outside the Old Firm could have matched that I think. He will no doubt go to a low championship/high league one team.
  16. Obviously someone with great English!
  17. I didn't think I'd ever say this, but it's even more bizzarre than that idea that the Hokey Cokey could offend Celtic fans a couple of years ago.
  18. Can't decide whether I would like Jeffers back or not. He had some superb games for us and a superb touch, but his scoring record could be improved. Mind you that was a lasting problem before he signed with Motherwell, don't think he has hit double figures in his career.
  19. Agree with most of what you say there. I don't think it's "jobs for the boys" as the number of them who have continually been in the squad is minimal to zero. I think it is easier for him to pick Dundee Utd players when for example he is looking to fill a squad, perhaps slightly justifiably as he will know their abilities a bit better than anyone else. I think Webster was a deserved call up too, if he hadn't been so injury prone I reckon he would be our firm first choice centre back by now. As for Paul Dixon, I don't think he is or ever has been worthy of a place in the squad, I can't understand why Kevin McNaughton has always been overlooked, he has been playing left back at a good level his entire career. As for Scott Robertson, I can honestly think of ten players I'd play before him at centre midfield, but that was Burley who initiated his international career. Conway could be a squad filler for a friendly, but I think Goodwillie is one who is totally worthy of a call up. I guess I just have a gripe with Levein, like yourself, I lost all faith in him when he played no strikers against the Czech Republic. A couple of his other decisions leave a lot to be desired about. Favouring anyone from England whose Granny had a can of Irn Bru once over a homegrown £7 million striker who has proved he can score goals at Premiership level is crazy. Not that I'm defending Fletcher's sulk. Also favouring someone who does a steady but unspectacular job for Rangers, Lee McCulloch, over someone who Spurs and Liverpool were desperate to sign doesn't fill you with confidence.
  20. Since Levein took over, he has called up Garry Kenneth, Andy Webster, Paul Dixon, Craig Conway, Scott Robertson and David Goodwillie- all whilst playing Dundee United. He had three of his back four in his first squad. If you look at the rest of the SPL, we've had Saunders called up, Aberdeen have had Maguire called up, Hearts have had Wallace called up, Kilmarnock have had Bell and Bryson called up, St. Johnstone have had Murray Davidson called up. Anyone who tries to suggest that Dundee United have six times the international talent of the rest of the clubs, other than Kilmarnock which is three, is talking pish. I'm not saying he rushes to put those players in his starting eleven, but if you look at the above he finds it a lot easier to call up a Dundee United player than another provincial player. Of all the players above mentioned, I think only Goodwillie is good enough. When Mark Reynolds wasn't getting a call up at Motherwell, I was a bit miffed, not because I thought he was an international class centre back, simply because I thought he was better than Garry Kenneth. I think most would agree that George Burley, Walter Smith, Alex McLeish or any other Scotland manager wouldn't have touched Kenneth with a bargepole. Again, I'm annoyed that Murphy hasn't been included in the full team before, not because I think he is brilliant, but he merits it more than James Forrest, who was a fringe player at Celtic last year, all I can remember him doing is getting sent off against Accies and more than Chris Maguire, who in my opinion, is a worse player than Murphy. What annoys me is who has been capped instead of him, rather than him having been capped.

    Bob Mchugh

Don't think you can judge him just yet. His only other two league starts were against Celtic and Rangers during Gannon's spell. You have to give the boy a chance, calling him "amazingly shite" after his first start in two seasons is very fickle, no better than the Rangers fans wanting McCoist out.... Anyway judging from what I've seen, McHugh looks as if he could be decent but not prolific, he doesn't seem quick enough or strong enough to either be a speed merchant or a target man. He is hard working but the intelligence of his runs need to improve. But I'm willing to give him a run of games before declaring him the next McFadden or the next John Hendry. As I've said all along, we need a striker regardless of whether Murphy stays or goes. It is too much of a mantle to ask McHugh or Smith to be a first choice. Any striker we've brought through in recent years, like McFadden, Clarkson or Murphy, had a fair number of starts behind them before they were considered "first choice". Not four (McHugh) and zero (Smith). I know McCall has said he wants a defender, but surely you have to look at having Saunders on the bench and Page in the stand and see we need a striker.

    Faddy

It was in one of the papers the other day he is rumoured to be on the verge of rejoining Everton, that tells me there's no chance we can compete. You would never hear "Aye he'll go to Everton................ or Motherwell"
  23. I'm sure I heard somewhere that Blackburn were not loaning him north of the border this season. Anyway, I don't think he would guarantee fifteen goals. Being a young player, he could just have hit a purple patch with us, as he was far from prolific at Aberdeen. Like I've said with various other players, he wouldn't be the worst signing ever but the potential for 15 goals? Yes. The Guarantee? No. Also, referring to Higdon as "the immobile Higdon" is a bit harsh, on the evidence of one competitive game in which McCall revealed he was carrying a knock for? A bit fickle. I understand where you coming from and agree mostly, but when the above mentioned players left we didn't have such a threadbare squad. For example, we replaced McDonald with Porter, who had a resurgent Clarkson and McCormack beside them. The problem with Murphy leaving is you are asking players to step up from novice to first team instantly. McHugh and Gary Smith have two SPL starts between them. There would be no way of nurturing them into a first team berth, the way we did with Murphy. Our current squad minus Murphy and Higdon scored eight SPL goals last season. If Murphy leaves Higdon plus eight is twenty three. I think it's a tall task to ask either or both of them to make up the rest of the goals. I would like to see both given a proper chance this season, but at the same time I would turn down another striker regardless of Murphy staying or going.
  24. Surely you saying you're not his biggest fan counts a comment?
  25. Agree with most of the above. I rate Craigan, Saunders and Hutchinson more than Gunning but I do think Gunning on a free transfer would be far from a bad signing. The only thing I think that would propel him from those three is him being left sided, the other three are better defenders.
