That’s just your reasoned opinion versus mine, which is completely fair. Based on your response, my post seems pretty balanced: you agreed with four points and disagreed with five. The idea that views like mine somehow equate to pant-wetting insanity is, frankly, madness in itself.

The long and short of it is—and this isn’t aimed at you—is that too many are more interested in posting reductive pish to take shots at anyone voicing an opinion, rather than offering anything constructively critical themselves.

Exactly - and whilst I disagreed with 5, 4 of them I have put not proven and in time that could be as high 8/9 that I agree with.
All in, this is what I prefer in the forum. I felt that your post got skipped over without acknowledgement or debate as it was in this thread. Hopefully this triggers a few more comments rather than it was a meaningless friendly and we move on.

I’m not going to overreact to tonight’s performance or result, but there are some glaring issues that need sorting:

    • We badly need a proper back-up—or even a replacement—for Oxborough. Ward was poor tonight.
    • We need a left-back who’s genuinely ahead of Wilson.
    • SOD should be shown the door. He was appalling yet again.
    • We’ve still not replaced Casey. Maybe McGhee fills that gap, but I’d still want another option ahead of Balmer.
    • We need a proper successor to Miller. It’s not Elliot Watt or Halliday.
    • Maswanhise isn’t the answer. We need a proper winger.
    • Stama isn’t the answer either. We need a big, athletic centre-forward who can actually lead the line.
    • Passing out from the back? It’s never going to work with this keeper and this defence.
    • And do we even know what our best formation is? Where do Sparrow and Fadinger fit? You could ask this of others as well.

On the plus side, a few of the young lads stepped up under difficult circumstances. I thought number 30, Campbell Forrest, was the standout in midfield. And the manager now has a much clearer picture of what he’s working with, and what he still needs.

So irrespective of people saying no no no Wellfan it wasn't you - this is the post that instigated all the chat over it's just a friendly but the points made are much deeper and can be taken over a much longer time period.

    1. Not Proven! Oxborough has shown enough to be a Motherwell first team player. But when he is injured there is some serious question marks over a suitable number 2. Ward didn't impress on his debut and over the next 5-6 games we can see exactly where he is. Balcombe was not good enough last season. The point of getting a good second keeper remains valid but maybe answered by Ward or not in the forthcoming games.

    2. Guilty! Not based on last night but over a 6 month period. Wilson looks the back up and we need to sign a first team left back.

    3. Guilty! over a long term we cannot afford a player who continually loses us sloppy goals - we cannot afford that over a season.

    4. Guilty! Again we need a first team level central defender.

    5. Not Proven! Too early to say on Elliot Watt his description is very much a Lennon Miller type player. Halliday as we know is not that. Again after 6-7 games we will know.

    6. Not Proven! He was on fire playing in a wide position of a 3 when he first arrived. Now he's playing as a number ten. Play him as a winger and see if he can be what we need. I think he may be.

    7. Not Guilty! Stama I rate highly but only in the right system - alongside a big number 9 and playing off him or with two wingers either side. Play to peoples strengths. Don't make him what he is not.

    8. Guilty! Every foreign manager (see Valakari) tries this at first. They soon learn!

    9. Not proven! Last nights evidence didn't tell us much - but a little - what he is trying to do we do not have the quality to do.

So irrespective of Twente game or not - these points should be taken over the course & considering they have all got very valid aspects to them - this is the real discussion.

We never got value for money from him last year at all he was injured more times than not. Hopefully we are moving away from this type and signing generally fit players.

Yeh we should try and avoid the types like seddon that have had over 200 competitive appearances before joining us.

  4. Ok for a bit of fun here is my 3-4-3

Positives - pace on either side of a striker who can get goals, the negatives is the two wide players cannot in any way for me tackle and retreat when not on the attack. That means we would need to have defensive minded midfielders.
    No Miller presumed here.

    Oxborough

    McGinn
    Gordon
    Balmer

    Sparrow
    McGhee
    Slattery
    Wilson

    Robinson/Fadinger
    Stama
    Maswahine

Someone fix it for me if it's terrible and ignore the posts below!

Unless he needs his wrist to run or kick a ball, he should be fully recovered and fit for pre-season.

I was interested in your previous last take on Stama - doubting ability, or the fact he wants to be here?

Stama probably falls into that category too, unfortunately. Based on what we've seen this season, it's hard to imagine him making any real impact over the next 2 years.

Disagree. based on talent Stama could be a great player for us.

Unless you mean based around a probable common sense hunch he wants out of Fir Park

  7. I’ve heard that the strip is kind of like a continual blend of our colours merging

    whatever the hell that means…

maybe that’s like amber flowing gradually down into claret or the other way round

    sounds interesting anyway

  8. One other thing to add is that Wimmer has landed a likely higher salaried job.
ChatGPT estimates their turnover at 15-20 million euros and were in the German championship albeit relegated.
Maybe like Plymouth equivalent of Germany.
But Motherwell can be a stepping stone especially in the UK.

At the level we operate at re transfers, and given our limited finances those type of players are well outwith our budget.

We have seen what can happen when when you take a punt on a player, Higdon, and Bair being two good examples, so why not Armstrong, 4 goals already from limited game time, why he could not get a game for Carlisle is irrelevant.

Its what he has done already and potentially could do for Motherwell that's important.

I always check the forums of the teams when we sign players.

Carlisle like us, usually, played one up top and Armstrong struggled.

But they said he did much better on the times when they played two up.
Queue - two goals up front last night as part of a two.

Yes they have. There have been comments about getting him out and getting Arnott or Naismith in. Someone who knows the Scottish game was the exact comment - and the comment is still there.

I've no reason to make it up when it's on the page.

    Yup you are correct.

I changed from "relevant comments" to "all comments" and I can see what you are seeing.

Even Facebook must know irrelevant comments and keep it off my feed

    Crazy stuff

I think its one of the fan pages not the official...some of the stuff posted is actually wild....so many angry folk out there with their heads exploding

    Ah I see!

I was wondering - I think I'll avoid that then!

I wouldn't give it long before it crosses the stream to the official site anyways

They are. Particularly on Facebook. Ranging from we haven't had a new manager bounce to he's rubbish - it seems to be a pattern to be fair - when we get beat the chants of he must go go up.

Some comments as well as to how he doesn't know the Scottish game. I think some people don't quite get that his stats are actually decent and - there are also people blaming him for the fact that we didn't get top six.

I get that it's been a disappointing season in a lot of respects but come on - he can only do so much with the players he has and we are safe from relegation - job done in my view. I hope we scud Killie and Ross County just to prove the detractors wrong.

    where?

I've read every single comment on Motherwell FC's Facebook for the last week and not one single person has said this.

I mean some of the players don't fair well and there is grumbles - but there is no one calling for him to be sacked.

Do we need two backups the wrong side of thirty? And will their salaries reflect their roles as backup..?

Great point and highly doubt it. Captain and a Vice Captain there.
We can add Koutroumbis, Wilson, Balmer, Nicholson, Robinson to the back ups.
I don't think anyone's "pant wetting" - but points like Melvin's are here to be discussed.
That's likely to be a good bit of budget spent on these two as examples and it's clear Wimmer needs to bring in quality - as there isn't enough of it in our massive 34 man squad.
