  1. Some will choose to go - some wont. Big deal. Let's just wait to see if we get there. In the last 2 weeks St Mirren have clawed back 5 yellow cards on us. We are now just 1 red and 2 yellow ahead of them. I would hope that since they seem to have more to play for, they may pick up a few more than us in the last 3 games. But at this rate it will be them and not us who will get the UEFA fair play position if we are NOT careful
  2. Don't want to tempt fate - but I hope it stays this way. If so I will get a few beers and I will be on Pie & Bovril website all evening.......................
  3. Just to confirm that the game is officially postponed. Unsurprisingly the pitch has struggled to cope with the rain (as is always the case!!) and there would also be concerns re injuries to some of us older folk. The Log in To Learn team are in the process of phoning all participants and it is hoped the re-scheduled game will go ahead in the next week or two - most probably a Friday again. Watch this space. Please pass on the word to anyone you know who was due to take part.
  4. Exactly my feelings. St Mirren could have 4 rather meaningful games compared to ourselves. The likelihood is that they will pick up as many if not more cards between now and the end of the season. That said they are not too far behind - equivalent of 5 yellow cards and as last weekend showed we picked up 4 while they picked up zip. So this could turn around within the space of two weeks. But as stated before they have more at stake. As to Playing in Europe via the fair play league. So what. Europe is Europe. I am sure Man City did not care this year as they marched to the 1/4 finals. That and it means we do not have to wait almost 3 months to see a competitive game. Plus a wee bit of extra income for the club that was not budgeted for and could mean we can attract some decnt talent or persuade some not too leave. All in all more plus points than negatives if you ask me. Now be very careful Mr Klimpl
  5. After watching the Falkirk game I don't disagree with you. That said if we keep losing we will start falling down the league and each league placing is worth £60 or £70k a place. I don't believe Motherwell can afford to drop 2 or 3 places and effectively lose £100k+. The players and management team are or had better beware of this little fact. If we lose on Saturday and Hamilton and ICT win then by the time we come to play them - they will be playing to win and to probably overtake us in the league. That is NOT good enough
  6. I wondered that too. But the two leagues are seperate. The UEFA fair play league as has been discussed closed end of last month - so Scotland will either be in the top 3 or not as it will proabably turn out to be the case! But is only the best (or second best to Celtic) or well disciplined club in Scotland who go forward to represent Scotland. I assume therefore that our fair play league runs until the end of the season. It would be somewhat ironic if Scotland were in the top 3 but we were not in pole in the scottish league. 4 yellow cards did not help, but we should know this week whether Scotland are in line for that extra UEFA cup place. If that is the case then I would not play Klimpl again this season
  7. It is largely meaningless if you were not at the game. I was and despite the fact we played OK at times it was patently obvious who wanted it more. I guess that is hardly surprising given what is at stake for Falkirk, but too many times today our players watched and waited for the ball to bounce or to come to them instead of making it happen. At 2-1 with falkirk down to 10 men I thought game on, but if anything we played worse still - our players got muddled up in defence in the middle of the park when there were far easier passes on. A lot of fans have said why pay £21 for a meaningless game - and you know they were right! I will go to the 2 remaining home games and Hamilton away (cos it's our derby), but I am not heading thorugh to Love St to watch players who clearly feel the end of season has already arrived. We may not get relgated but on current performance we could finish 10th or 11th and that would cost the club hundreds of £000's. Lasley at right back - do me a favour. A decent midfielder but he is not blessed with pace. It was an accident waiting to happen. Pass marks to me for Hammell, MacLean, Klimpl and possibly Clarky. As for Hughes - all this hullaballoo about keeping him. I am not that fussed. On his day he is a great player - but these days are becoming fewer and far between. We need a midfielder that is not frightened to have a dig at goal. Pull the finger out Motherwell.
  8. It is the lap of the gods big man. I cannot help but feel we are heading for a let down on this front. As someone has previously mentioned we will probably be pipped into 3rd place by Macedonia and 0.0000001 point. We really have no idea where Scotland will place in the final table. We were 3rd at Xmas time. Could be nowhere next time around. Still if we are off to the farthest reaches of Eastern europe - I WILL BE THERE
  9. Three UEFA Europa League places In the end-of-year table, Norway lead Denmark and Scotland in the race for three extra places in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League first qualifying round. The standings are drawn up from all European competition matches from the period between 1 May 2008 to 30 April 2009. The above quote is taken from the Uefa website and refers to the standings back in January. Does this then mean that the fair play league is based on European games as oppose to domestic games?? Have we actually had any games involving Scottish teams since January??
  10. In fairness to Ceske and Falkirk - they did not make up the rules. If the Well got to the final - of course it helps if you can beat teams below you in the league or even in another league then we would more than happily take it and I would not care if someone like Hearts or Hibs missed out if they were sitting 5th in the league.
  11. I believe that the lad Turner had the opportunity to come out on loan to Motherwell at some point last season but Everton decided he would be better off elsewhere and in England!
  12. As far as I recall from doing a wee amount of research the UEFA fair play league does finish accumulating points at the end of April. So we have finished second to Celtic this year in that respect. I hope Tweed is right about the table being published twice a year because I am quite sure when I last looked on the UEFA site Scotland had somehow dropped from 3rd place down to mid 20's - could not quite fathom how we had dropped so far. I hope I misread it!
  13. "I am committed to Motherwell and my position hasn't changed just because we have failed to make the top six," McGhee said. "I am committed to Motherwell. I have no other offers on the table and I don't have an agent or agents out there trying to get me a job. I have no intention of job seeking or punting myself elsewhere. "I still feel there is a lot more to come from this team and I feel I can get it out of the boys. "I have already sat down with John Boyle and Stuart Robertson to start making plans for the new season. I am also trying to arrange pre-season and to bring new players in for next season." Despite the disappointment in missing out on the top 6 I for one am glad that he still appears committed to the cause. I think we stand a better chance of success with him than without him. My main concern is the lack of finances to add decent players to the squad for next season. I am sure that will also be his main concern!!
  14. Fortunately I was at a wedding yesterday with a few other Well fans including the groom. Managed to catch the 1st half in a boozer but then headed off for the church. Miffed that we missed out on the top 6, but glad in retrospect that I missed the game. Always a lot more painful when you are there in person. But I am quite frankly baffled why people who have a season ticket and profess to support Motherwell are considering not going to the remaining home games Fair do's if you have to pay to get in, then I totally understand that these games may appear meaningless. Just wait until 6 weeks into the 10 week break and you will be wishing that Well had a meaningless game at home to ICT. The summer is a nightmare. We still have to cement 7th place and have a lanarkshire derby coming up. I will probably end up going to at least 4 of the remaining 5 games because I just like watching my team play, even if they do (and always will) turn in rank performances in games that matter. Sat next to the grooms father and mother yesterday. She was 81 and her favourite player was Stevie Kirk. He was 79 and not in the best of health - his favourite players were Willie Hunter or Andy Paton. Life's too short to get the hump
  15. Yes - I read that there would be a play off at a neutral venue. Knowing the SPL - that would be Tynecastle As much as I don't think Hibs will beat Rangers - I don't think it will be 4-0 to Rangers either. I could not see them pushing for a 4th goal if they were 3-0 up after say 85 minutes? That said the title race may well come down to goal difference again!
  16. 23rd right enough. Must be a bunch of pansies over in Norway. Have been in first place since January, where Scotland have fallen 20 places How the hell did that happen - have the players and fans been assaulting each other every bloody game. I can't even think of that many red cards. Top 6 is best we can hope for.
  17. We can win on Saturday and we may! I thought St Mirren have played very well the last game and a half against the Gers and Hibs tonight. Whilst they could have lost at the end how it was 1-1 at half time was a travesty. If St Mirren turn up at Fir Park with that energy then it will be a VERY tough 90 mins. I wish I was as confident as you Rickoza. Still a draw was a good result and better than a Hibs win that would have given us virtually no chance. Dorman is very much the danger man - stick Klimp on him and don't let him out of his sight! Dargo looks like he is getting back to his PEST again and that wee bugger always seemed to score against us I will miss the game as someone I know has organised his wedding on the same day And that will take a half dozen well fans away from the game on Sat. Still we should get to see the first half before the church bells chime.
  18. It is being reported on the BBC that the Dons supporters trust have written an open letter to the board politely requesting the removal of Jimmy Calderwood. I doubt they will take this on board. I also wonder what impact if any this unrest will have on the upcoming game. The main point is that they are also being quoted as stating that Mark McGhee would be the fans choice as a replacement. I thought it had been too long since we had to put up with this cr*p. Would he take it if offered? I think he would
  19. It was a disappointment our performance yesterday. Whilst an away point is always welcome there is a general consensus (from MM aswell) that we did not turn up. A real wasted opportunity and ultimately one that will cost us a chance at 4th spot. As for top 6 - for me it is quite simple - win on Saturday v the Dons and I think we will make it - any other result and we are likely to fall a little short. God knows what Hibs side will turn up in the next few games - mind you much the same could be said about the Well I reckon it will come to the last game before the split - watching Hibs v Gers knowing that a draw or a Gers win will keep us in the top 6.
  20. Although we always seem to say this - the next two games are HUGE. Two wins and I think we will end up in the top 6 with the top 4 a distinct possibility. Especially when you consider that at least two, possibly 3 or even all 4 of our rivals could drop points next week. I don't want to be the harbinger of doom but when you conside that killie have not won a game in 2009 and we have only lost one - an away win should be a banker - yeah right......supporting Motherwell for over 30 years has taught me that with match sequences like that a home win is more likely. C'mon the Well - break the TV curse - pleeease
  21. The phrase walk before you run springs to mind. Without the injuries we had in Nov/Dec I am quite sure we would have been in 3rd or 4th. But we have a smallish squad and we were never going to be as lucky as last season with injuries. Realistically I agree with McGhee - I think 3rd has gone. Right now we are no certainty to reach the top 6. Hibs on paper have an easier set of fixtures even though I believe we both have 3 at home and 2 away. We just hope that Mixu has still lost the dressing room as I learned during the week from a friend of John Rankin. His man management skills are piss poor and hopefully the Accie win was just a blip Until is is mathematically impossible then we should aim to finish 3rd or as high as possible. I believe my last post was about realism not a lack of ambition.
  22. As disappointing as it was to lose during the week. It could be argued we were fortunate to take all 3 points against the Accies at home and ICT away. That is the way the season works. Very few teams are that far ahead in class v the Well, but you could also argue that very few are behind in class. In essence that means that most games will be settled by one goal and it maybe an offside, deflection or penalty that never was or was not given in our favour. It does not detract from the fact that if we had a solid defence we would never have lost either goal. When that last throw in came in - we should have been battling to clear our lines. It was all rather pathetic truth be told. On a positive note. Had we got a well deserved draw v Hearts and another against either Hamilton or ICT away we would actually be on one point less. Our focus now has to be on the top 6 - anything else is a bonus.
  23. It's a tad more local to some than others.................
  24. No excuse mate. Your local game after all
  25. Are you making an appearance Big man? Looking forward to this game, which is never a good sign usually................... Quite a few of the East of Scotland boys making the trip north, myself included. We have a good record away at ICT and what with the Butcher, Foran connections etc it adds some spice. I would like to see Terry keep them up, but the 3 points are all that matter to us and our top 6 aspirations. Game ON.
