I'm sorry but I just can't get on board with being okay with this. We've moved a game of football 4 days before it's due to start, meaning there will be hundreds of our fans that now can't make it. If it was a few weeks or months in advance then whatever, but four days, and for no benefit to us? It's fuckin tragic from us.

We're putting another club first at the expense of several hundred fans, it's despicable.

Just to play devils advocate as you are making some definite statements there...

How do you know hundreds of fans can't make it? What about the fans that couldn't make the  Sunday kick off? Perhaps more fans can now actually go. Perhaps it's negligible. Two from my group can now attend who couldn't for example.

No benefit to us? How do you know? Maybe the management team prefer to prepare for Saturday to Saturday games? Rather than Sunday to Saturday. Maybe Alexander would prefer a normal week ahead of an arguably bigger game v Dundee Utd, rather than moving rest days about and essentially losing prep time.

Feels like a lot of people are hiding behind a lot of other reasons not liking this, but it's  the fact we are agreeing to do this for one of the Glasgow two is the real issue here for most. Which is valid. But just say it.

  2. Dundee Utd have won 2 games in their last 10, Killie in the cup and a last minute goal to beat Ross County. We've won 3 in our last 10.

    Very similar teams and form.

We are well capable of getting 3 points up there, even taking into account recent performances and results against some tricky teams in Hibs, Hearts, Celtic, an always troublesome Goodwin St Mirren and eh...Ross County.

Of course there are many promising players in the lower leagues, including the Championship, who have potential and will make the step up succesfully. However Rudden is slightly different. If he had been playing with the likes of Arbroath, Morton or QoS there would not have been as much media hype. But the fact is that he plays with a team that every Scots football fan has a soft spot for. His manager Ian McCall has said that 8 or 9 clubs would be watching him on Friday. Stirring up an auction...yes. Its not uncommon for a decent player to supposedly attract interest from 3 or maybe 4 clubs - I give you Dykes, Turnbull, Shankland, Campbell, Watt et al. However "8 or 9" suggests that this player is something extra special.  Thats what fans have been basing their expectations on. You can't judge a player on one game of course, but with so many watching eyes from the stands he is under pressure to prove what he's capable of. Friday night wasn't a good start.

Respectfully disagree with some of that. Maybe right for the majority but not all fans.   In my case, and a similar to a few others by the looks of it:

    - I defintley don't have a soft spot for Thistle. Never have. Even with my mate being a fan. (See also: My feelings on Dundee United)

    - I don't think he's getting the extra media because of it either. I'd say it's mainly because he's an ex Rangers youth and scored some goals on his first perm move away from that club. He was well fancied as a youngster. If it had been a youth from us, who dropped down to the championship and scored goals for Thistle, I don't think we'd have heard about it as much.

    - I've been aware of him for a good while. I think mainly because I used to see his name in the Scotland youth squads and it kinda stands out. I also remember Ray McKinnon banging on about him when he went to Falkirk and started well.

So for me, personally, he's not suddenly jumped on to my radar. Which is maybe why my expectations are slightly different.

I have the impression, maybe wrongly, that he's overhyped, for a number of reasons including the club he currently plays for. GA and KL will have a far better eye for a player than we do, but he has to have the basic attributes now, such as how to trap a ball and pass. If he hasn't, he can't be taught them now. In other aspects of his game he can, of course, be developed.

I'm not even sure he's being overhyped tbh. Don't think anything I've read is saying he's the next best thing. But he has got some airtime recently because quite a few clubs are having a look at him which for me that's not really hype to be linked with St. J and us!

He was quite fancied at Rangers as a youth, has a bit of a fancy name, scored a good few goals since moving to Thistle and that's about it.

Expectation/unrealistic expectation will be a big thing. Very much file under decent potential for me.

He’s going to need a way better first touch at Premiership level

    Agreed.

Young enough to improve in all elements of his game which is key to any signing, for me, from a level below (Scotland or elsewhere) if we are signing players with a view to the future (i.e. not as ready made starters).

One tame effort on goal. Ran about a lot. Everyone has bad games, but he looked very similar to Jordan White and we know how that turned out for us.

The Gaffer and Las were there I believe so hopefully that may make them rethink. Supposedly there were 8 or 9 clubs watching the game last night and interested. Would imagine that number is a lot lower now.

I've watched Rudden a good few times due to having a Thistle supporting pal.  He's definitely got a lot of positive attributes that didn't really show last night against Killie and on a Firhill pitch that's getting worse by the week. Showed in flashes but I've seen him do a lot better.

Only 21 and worth a pre contract I'd say. It's the likes of Rudden and Shields I personally think we should be taking a chance on from the championship as our backup forwards. Relatively low wages and should be able to improve them. Rather than a Jordan White type Championship striker in his late 20s

Look … … … Let’s get this Shankland pish hit on the head. He was on £4k a week at United which I think was one of the main reasons that they wanted to offload him.

No way are we going to pay anywhere near that amount of money !!!!

He also can't play for another club this season due to the registration/transfer rules unless they are on a different calendar like Scandinavia or Ireland etc. Only allowed to turn out for 2 clubs which he has already (same situation for Jordan Roberts, due to 1 League cup appearance for Hearts)

So if Shankland wants to come back to Scotland this window, Dundee Utd are his only option.

So he's not coming to us right now. Thankfull in my opinion - not a fan.

Looks more and more like Watt will stay which I'm fine with. I'm sure he will give it his all.

(Edit: As si91 mentioned earlier in the thread)

  8. Doesn't generally bother me the social media output of any player tbh. They can support who they want clearly and that's fine for me  But it is a bit unprofessional I think when it's a team in the same league. At the least it's just a shite look.

Regardless, he's not quite good enough anymore at this level it seems. Loan to Killie appears to what is happening by end of this month

I'd still love to see us drop Watt back and play behind the central 2 strikers - that would connect things up and leave space on the flanks for Carrol/S'OD to ping in some crosses.

Aye, it's defintley an option I'd explore. Said elsewhere Watt is ideal for that role.

However, I'd stick with the 4-3-3 for Sunday.

Same team but Ojala in and Lamie out. Lamie provides balance but I think Mugabi is the better defender tbh. Lamie makes so many poor decisions.

I’ve always viewed the Captain first and foremost as the player who is the leader on the park, someone who is vocal with the rest of the team and can when needed speak to/with the officials. Craigan, Lasley, Leitch, Phil O’Donnell and Tom Boyd are the type of guys that spring to mind when I think of that type of role, all guys who were able to be focal points of the team and who were the obvious ‘leader’.

I always have a wee laugh when folk get all misty eyed about Lasley. He very very often went very quiet when things weren't going well. The fact he was so bad at timing tackles kept him up there for a lot of fans.

I should state - I'm a big Las fan. But I never thought he was the vocal presence he needed to be.

We still need another centre half and central midfielder as it stands - potentially another wide player too.

Probably the most concerned I can remember being going into the first match of the season.

Genuinely? I've been way way way more worried than this before.

Last season I was a wee bit worried about the business we did even if it was early,  and we didn't win a league game until the middle of September. Prior to that the other one that jumps to mind is when I saw us lining up with Conor Sammon and Aaron Taylor Sinclair in the starting line up on opening day v Hibs.

I'm may be de-sensitised to overly worrying I think as we've not won an opening league game since 16/17!

Well I'd assume they are trying the same avenues as i have been trying, the ticket office just sends you back onto the ticket website, where up until now i have not had the option t buy

General sale isn't on sale yet. So you'll struggle until then I'd wager.

Season ticket holders get seat confirmation tonight/tomorrow (anyone who applied will get a seat, it's a not a ballot,)

General sale is going up tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I cannot see us finishing above 10th.

We’re kicking off a season without the centre halves we badly needed and a creative midfielder that we’ve been crying out for since Turnbull left.

I fear the first round of fixtures will Be a complete write off for us.

Another turgid, shite season incoming I fear.

We're just about to sign a Finnish international centre half.

I don't think they will go from 15% or 25% to 100% in 3 weeks when all restrictions are scheduled to end.

Hopefully our council will be more sensible than GCC.

Knowing a couple of people at the council it's not as simple as moving up the percentages.  They've got a guidance framework but every game and ground is looked at across loads of variables and each council will be the same. We luckily have a decent relationship with them too.

Things like total actual capacity, space for players and staff, actual number of fans, entry and exit points to stadium and surrounding approach etc, space within stadiums and different stands, will more people likely travel by car or public transport, previous fan behaviour,l and previous club behaviour.in the pandemic. To name but a few.

Good job his previous bosses didn’t think along the same lines.

Not advocating he should be ahead in any pecking order, but, we lost an energy in the team with him being unavailable - that was never replicated, despite the Mark O’Hara fans trying to say otherwise. That energy forced the team up the pitch allowing others to do their thing elsewhere.

    Kid has bigger problems.

I know you aren't a fan of O'Hara but I'm not sure why you are mentioning him here?

I like both lads to be honest. 100% agree on what Grimmy brings to the team in that respect. Been saying the same myself for a while - all the way back to the cup finals season. When he's on point and driving us forward from right back it's great and opens up a lot.

I do like O'Hara when he's on song and played correctly too. The latter being the most important point. Robinson, for me, shifted him about to much as some sort of Donnelly V2 in his own eyes.  But I don't see him as someone who drives us forward like Grimmy does at his best - which it kind of, I think,  looks like your suggesting other have said.

Might be harder to get players up from down south with the looming when everything shuts you are not allowed to travel.

It's a different ball game now that's why I think more than ever we get a proper scouting network in Scotland.

I think that was maybe the case last year when we were in complete lockdown. But, as OTF, said there are quite a lot of new protocols and exemptions now in place for travelling while working since the original lockdown.

However, there may be some players that just would prefer to stay closer to home during this time - can defintley see that.

Either way we should have a scouting network covering down south and up here. Feels like we do have both in play given recent signings  but I could be wrong.

As an aside, choking for a proper player rumour here to keep me going.

It's all gone very quiet on the squad rebuild only 1 confirmed signing so far, and alleged interest in Lafferty,  the season starts in just over 4 weeks with the league cup, time we had some new players in to discuss.

I'm happy with us taking our time and getting the right players over the next few weeks. We were very early in doing business last year, from memory, and that didn't exactly pan out as well as hoped.

In reality, we are in the same place with  Cole leaving as before.

Realistically, we need 9 bodies in, 6 of which need to be nailed on starters of quality.
With Cole leaving, I cannot help but feel that we must have about 25 grand per week in playing budget to allocate, therefore it should easily be possible to piece together the required squad to compete in the top 6 with that kind of cash to allocate.

At the moment, we’re still looking at a team/squad of:

    ———————————GK

    O’Donnell——CD—CD—Mcginley/Carroll

    —————————-CM

    ————--—-CM—————O’Hara/A.N. Other

    ——-Shields———CF———-Watt

    SUBS:

    Fox

    Carson

    Mugabe

    Lamie

    Carroll

    Donnelly

    lawleff

    Maguire

    Winger

    Crawford

     ST

    ST

I can't help but think one of Lamie/Mugabi will start a lot and one of Crawf/Maguire/Donnelly too.
