The diagonal band strip from the 70s would really have walked it.
It wouldn't let me vote for some reason, despite registering. From the comments below the shirts it looks as though Atletico Mineiro's fans have already got an organised vote going.

Oh dear, I'd managed to forget about that game.
While it make sense to say that winning the cup increased our affection for the cup, we did take around 3000 to Pittodrie for the 3rd round - maybe we just had an inkling of what was to come!
While I went to many games before then, I don't remember too many cup games offhand. I do remember though, a large Motherwell support getting the soaking of their lives behind the goals at Tynecastle while the time got a drubbing (4 nil I think).

For as long as I can remember the Scottish Cup seems to have brought a great sense of excitement to Motherwell supporters and we seem to get pretty healthy crowds and in particular, much larger away supports than we normally do.
I assumed that all clubs supports were affected in a similar way ( with the possible exception of the Old Firm) but when I looked at the weekend's results there were some pretty dreadful attendances. Falkirk for instance, generally get similar league attendances to ourselves but had only 3423 for their game against Queen of the South, with the TV showing a reasonable travelling support.
There were only 1803 at ICT v Partick Thistle - I thought Partick were similar to ourselves in taking large away supports to these sort of games but that is a poor crowd by anybody's standards. Similarly there were only 2871 at Dunfermline v Clyde.
On the other hand, the TV showed Ochilview hosting healthy away supports from Aberdeen and Dundee Utd. and Ayr Utd. v Kilmarnock was packed out (although the derby element means it's not really comparable).
Did the weather and poor form really affect some games that badly or is it just a case of some clubs being 'Cup clubs' and others aren't.
Have Motherwell always had this affinity with the Cup or is it just something that's come in over the last 15 - 20 years? I can certainly remember great crowds going to Aberdeen (1991) and Tannadice a few years later but maybe people with better memories or longer experience watching the 'Well can add other memories or shed some light on our feelings for this competition.

On the bright side, at least our name (and Inverurie's) is guaranteed to be in the draw for the next round!

Considering it's not his first language I think he does pretty well and considerably better than many players and managers.
I thought it was a pretty cheap shot for Billy Dodds to joke about him saying "baddest" when you think of some of his offences against the English language.

I think you'll find Dundee Utd. have a bit of a track record for signing Inverness players as well as from England and Ireland.

MMcG was on Clyde 1 sports news at lunchtime saying he would love top get 4 players in during January, but would settle for 3. He believed that if we got 3 or 4 of the quality he is looking for then we could look at seriously challenging for 4th spot, but that a lot of things would have to fall into place for him to get the players he wanted, and he also said he hopes to keep Porter.
Plus: The Daily Mail says Simon Lappin has been told he has no future at Norwich.
Oops - just beaten to it with the Lappin one!
3 or 4 new faces sounds great but he says we'll be lucky to get one in his interview on the official site. Sounds like he's got a different story for each interview!

Having read over some of the stories I can't help but notice a few of the guys we have on trial have been free for some time. If that is the case, should we not have had them on trial earlier with a view to them signing early January?

Yeah, but Boyle reportedly turned down a bid of £1m for McCulloch. Looking back at it, the whole thing was absolutely mad.
As for the story, if Hearts are looking to sign Porter in January then they should be speaking to Motherwell rather than his agent.

Unfortunately I can't see us being unable to offload Bob Malcolm as I can't think of anyone who would want to take him. Unless someone's going to pay him, he's not going to leave.

Had to go for Klimpl who was very impressive in midfield. If McGhee is looking for a bit of muscle in midfield then there is simply no contest between Klimpl and Malcolm, who I really can't see making many appearances again.

It could certainly be argued that Falkirk's move has been successful and St. Mirren's move appears to be solving a lot of their financial difficulties although we've still to see how their fans take to it.

I might consider staying for 5, 10 minutes to watch some of it depending on the result but segregation might mean they'll keep us in anyway.
Still can't work out how they're going to segregate that stand.

People are always ready to analyse his every word. If he had said that he wished fans were a little bit less fickle would anyone disagree because that's basically what he is saying.
When it looked like he was leaving for Hearts the outpourings of grief and the support for him on this site were almost overwhelming because he had done very well for him. With the team not doing very poorly that support has gone - if he is aggrieved I am sure it is because the feelings have gone from one extreme to the other. As for his wages being doubled, there would have been an outcry from the support if John Boyle had not spent money to keep him, such was the feelings for him at that time.
I don't think a good manager can suddenly become a bad one and I for one am quite happy to give him some more time and not get on his back. Apart from anything else, I don't think we would be able to get in anyone with anything like his capabilities.

When the fixtures came out I thought game this would be a real scramble for tickets but a combination of really poor form, the game on tv, a lunchtime kick-off and the game being just before Christmas when the economy has taken a nose-dive has badly affected demand.
It doesn't help that the club has badly publicised this game is all-ticket. Unless you're on the internet or were one of the few at the Killie game you'd have little idea you needed a ticket. Just over a week ago the club's recorded message and their website were saying it was pay-at-the-gate before changing their tune.

I'd meant to say... from where I was in the Cooper, I think I heard Buzz shout "keeper's" for their first, yet he didn't move.
However, I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm?
I didn't hear him shout and he made no effort to come for it which is fair enough as it was never his ball as there were far too many players in front of him. Klimpl was directly in front of him on the line and had allowed himself to be blocked off by one of the Killie players.
Having seen the highlights I would say it's more down to the defender who got left by Pascali's run.
Actually, the highlights managed to make us look a bit unlucky which certainly wasn't the impression I got at the time.

I can remember some really poor crowds for some of the utterly meaningless games after the split when we've been in the bottom half but comfortably clear of relegation, but can't remember as poor a crowd for a meaningful game.
I will renew my season ticket because I can't imagine ever doing anything else when the 'Well are playing but it sounds as though I'll be there on my own. I know we're playing poorly just now but I've supported them through worse - it's amazing how your mind is able to filter out the entire seasons of crap. Sounds a bit like childbirth - if women didn't forget the pain they'd never go through it again!

We were talking about this at the game on monday and couldn't remember winning a Setanta game but I've not checked it out.
We won very few Sky games either although there were home wins against the Old Firm in the administration season when we finished bottom.

I had hoped to post a similar topic before the Killie game about these four games being crucial but unfortunately didn't have time. Out of the possible twelve points I thought that realistically get between 4 and 9 points. Four would leave us in a whole lot of trouble and nine would give us a bit of breathing space but if I was to make a prediction it would have been 6 points with wins against Accies and ICT.
I had a bad feeling about last night and it wouldn't surprise me if we lost in Love Street's finale - it's a big occasion for them and it hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us in recent years.
I know we ran up 4 wins out of 5 earlier when we had a run against similar opposition but we're really not playing at all well just now. After last night's performance though, it wouldn't surprise me if we were to lose at Accies on Saturday. They'll see it as their big chance to get back in amongst the pack and we don't look like a team ready for a scrap, unlike Killie and St. Mirren who can dig in and play as a unit.
If we don't get the points in this run we'll be really up against it as we'll have tougher opposition afterwards.
So, what's it to be folks - how many points out of these crucial three games?

Big Softie 7 goals for us, remember 3 of them aff the top of ma heid -
1. Almost bursting the net as his blooter put us 1-0 up against Rangers in last home game before 91 Cup final. Dougie adding 2 memorable goals in the last 5 mins.
2. Equaliser at Tannadice in 94th minute of a Cup game sparking manic scenes in the Tannadice Enclosure and on Radio Clyde commentary.
3. Was standing behind the goal at Cappielow when Big Softie connected with a ball something like 50 yards out it seemed to me. Most days it would have ended up past the cranes in the docks but on this day it rocketed straight towards me and only the net saved me from getting battered. 1-1 that day as I remember.
If my memory of that game at Cappielow serves me right you must have been standing in the home end rather than the crappy plastic bench seating in the away end where you spend the whole game being bitten by flies from the warehouses across the road. Is that right?

Seeing as it's now been changed, it looks like a bit of a ticket scramble with only a week and a half to go.

I think that if next week's game gets postponed they then have to schedule 2 attempts for the next week ie. the tuesday with the provision for the thursday if needed.
