  1. And another one to add to his left-peg tally. For all his critics, being able to score with both feet is a heck of an asset for a striker to have.

from reading on here Higdon is shite

i honestly dont know what it takes from him for people to realise he is as good as we are going to get

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premier/top-scorers

are Leigh Griffiths and Niall McGinn not having fantastic seasons according to most??

  2. to which one of them said it was exactly the same as the challenges Alan McGregor made every game without any punishment.

100% correct - that was McGregors trademark, and he always got away with it

im unsure what to do - it was mischievous, and i suppose the SFA/SPL need to show that they are trying to stamp things like this out

however, whether we accept or appeal this.......without a shadow of doubt, its the chance to ask for clarity and consistency (and possibly provide several examples of where certain players/teams seem to get away with it)

is it this thursday we need to let this SFA know how we are going to react to this?

  3. pearson gave us two or three good months then spat the dummy. most of the time prior to 03/04 he was gash and a liability with bookings and red cards.

very true - but he scored two fantastic goals at Shittodrie and won us the game! thats good enough for me!! lol

interestingly - of the teams picked so far - only one has went for the Motherwell God!!

  4. --------------------------------Randolph

    Corrigan-------------Hutchy----------Craigan------Hammel

    -------------Jennings---------O'Donnell-----------Pearson

    -------------McDonald--------Porter---------McCormack

    Subs

Ruddy, Quinn,Reynolds, Hutchison, Lasley, O'Brien, Sutton

i've made a couple to changes to Geed's team.......

Craigan for me has to be in there - guts, passion, desire and lastly his love for the Well!

Difficult choice between Hutchy and Reynolds and the same goes for Pearson and Lasley, but i opted for Pearson as he had more goals in him!

O'Brien and Sutton have been added to the bench - i think both brought an added something to the team

Lukas out and Porter in..............Although Lukas will be remembered for that awesome strike, I think Porter showed more at his time here, and definitely the more clinical finisher between the two

  5. Well McCalls team isn't a million miles away from how we played under McGhee. There are differences, our front 3 under McGhee were more clear cut forwards but we more or less play with a lead the line type physical forward Porter/Higdon who links up with wider support forwards Clarkson/McCormack now Murphy/Ojamma/Humphrey usually 2 from 3, more recently all 3 with someone a bit closer to Higdon.

Either way I like Higdon, he does a good job and if our budget is cut we'll do well to replace him. If not like to think we'll get someone in who can do a job. If we are cutting costs so will nearly everyone else.

    If i had the choice of Clarkson/Porter/McCormack v Murphy/Higgy/Humphrey(Ojamma)

then McGhee's lot would win hands down everytime - I wouldn't class Porter as a physical forward and he was certainly more mobile than what Higgy is and would without doubt run into the channels

McCormack could produce something from nothing and was very very direct

Clarkson would run through a brick wall for us - something I dont think any of McCalls 3 would do (maybe Ojamma!)

I'm a supporter of Higgy and Murphy and Ojamma - but those other 3 complimented each other very well. The existing 3 dont. Murphy is wasted where he is playing, Ojamma doesnt get enough time on the park and Humphrey.......

  6. Sounds like utter bollocks!

We will have made good money from Europe...

    From uefa.com 2011/12 money:

"All the clubs that played in one or more of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds received €90,000 per round, ie a maximum of €270,000, whether they played in the group stage or not.

In addition, each club knocked out in the play-offs received €90,000."

    And

"Clubs which took part in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds also received solidarity payments – each domestic champion which did not qualify for the group stage received €200,000, while clubs who were eliminated in the three qualifying rounds received €130,000 for each round played, up to a maximum of €390,000. Each of the 20 teams involved in the play-off matches received a fixed amount of €2.1m, irrespective of the result of their ties."

Not to mention 2 big crowds at top prices, merchandise etc.

how much does it cost to hire a plane to Greece? and accommodation for players & staff?

and how much does it cost to hire a last minute place to Spain? and accommodation for players & staff?

if you know the answer to above, then you will know if we made money or not

if you do not know the answer to the above - then you are merely guessing we made money

  7. Give the club a donation - don't pay at the gate.

not many voted on this............how many actually paid in? not many i'd guess

club lost out here IMO by not having some buckets, inside or out

Dave - how do we do this? IMO the club have not communicated anything to the fans. Anyone who goes to the ticket office pre match will know its not quiet and think, why do i need to wait in this queue to donate? Then go and wait in another queue to get in?

It would have been so much easier if they had someone with a bucket inside or patrolling up and down the queue whilst folk are waiting to get in - or even had a specific turnstyle for ST holders, who wanted to flash their ST book and make a donation to get in

there are so many good ideas from people on here - but for whatever reason they never make MFC and if they do, the club dont execute them

Its over 3 months since the season started - we all knew this was Club 12 at home, why could the club not have come out with something???

This has been active since they knew they were getting promoted - its NOT difficult, but apparently we find a way to make it so!

    http://www.rosscountyfootballclub.co.uk/news/spl-fund.aspx

  8. i said at the time.............i dont think there should be a such a divide with regards to entry into this game.

Some folk who have season tickets may want to help the club out, but cant afford the £20 entry fee.

If you can afford it and are willing to do it, then great.

However, for those who are not so well off - I'd like to see a "donation box" - you can flash your season ticket to get in and make a donation of whatever you can afford.

Some people might only be able to afford a couple of quid, and will happily give up their pie/coffee/bovril and donate it. Some people might only be able to afford a fiver or a tenner.

As it stands just now - you either pay in (full whack) or use your ST - there is no in between and I think the club are missing out here

  9. i'll put my head on the line for the big man.........

an 18-yard box striker playing off him wouldn't have any more success than the two wider front men (Murphy and Ojamma),

this is how we got out success last year - when we have someone who plays WITH him - our wide men DO NOT get forward enough to support him and he is isolated far too often

....... who see Higdon as this flick and knock-on expert, if anything my take is that he doesn't do it enough and as a result we lose possession far too cheaply trying to bring him into the game. Time to drop him and try an alternative approach - like play football on the ground to feet.

i wouldnt say he is a knock on expert, especially to the degree of Daly, and I commented on that the other night. However, he does win his share, and its NOT his fault that no one gambles and goes beyond him - like the two wide men you suggested above or one of the central midfielders - we do not need to drop him to "play football on the ground to feet" as you suggest. Some of our best football has been when he is in the team and we play to his strengths. He isnt the one making 40/50/60 yard "punts" up the park (i use the term punt, because they aint passes) - thats the other players - why do you not berate them for their "useless" passes?

Higdon - slow and cumbersome with little, to no control of the ball and as a result our more forward thinking players are unable to decide what they should actually do to support him.

Seriously? As above, stop lumping the ball forward. Play football, play it to his chest, knee, feet - that way, if the defender wants the ball - they have to go through him. Free Kick to us. As soon as its up in the air, the defender is always going to get the benefit of the doubt. If he had no touch / control, he wouldnt be playing football and have scored the goals he has done. You dont score as many as him for small clubs like us, Falkirk, St MIdden if you are sh1te

If its not bash Higgy day, its bash Murphy week / month. We're Motherwell - we're never going to be the best, as soon as someone proves to be good - they are gone. Its exactly what is going to happen in January or come the end of the season. Our best players are going to walk - and they will be replaced by others who are not as good.

It wouldnt matter if we had Rooney, Drogba or Ibrahimovic playing up front for us - if the rest of the team play as they are and they all got the service Higdon gets, they wouldn't be scoring either

  10.

How many times did he get the better of him?

How many times was he really one on one? Every time he gets the ball, teams double up on him. Not just last night, its every game

He either needs to lay the ball back to someone (which he did loads last night) or the others players in the team need to stop playing the ball to his feet and play it in behind so he can use his pace that way

  11. Anyway from what I saw Las had a chance of a shot on edge of the box, elected once more not to shoot, Utd break up the park and score. Same old failings, I was actually in the middle of making that point when the cross went in towards Russell. We have chances to shoot we should take them cos our wee intricate passes around the box get us nowhere just now.

one of the reasons why I like Henrik - everyone else wants to pass the ball into the back of the net, he wants to be direct, taje on his man and get a shot away

if you dont shoot - you dont score!!

  12. no and no

so who are these people? name them!!!!

i do believe he has the ability to play at a higher level, but he has to bulk up and be physically stronger if he wants to achieve those ambitions - he has definitely stalled

someone mentioned Griffiths and Watt - he was even ahead of Goodwillie in the U21s

his contract up at the end of the season? if so, cheerio and best of luck - we just need to hope the board keep offering him a new deal so we can get some kind of compensation

  13. not making it tonight either - never realised it had been changed and I agreed to go to a Casino night!

not sure what to think tonight - think we might be dominant, but Hibs are more clinical than us.

for the betting man, Hibs to win 5/2, Hibs to win and Griffiths to score 3/1 or my favourite - Higgy and Griffiths to score! Its on the cards!!!

3-1 Hibs :dash2: (although i'll happily eat my words)

  14. As mentioned, Hateley is woeful in midfield, he's a terrific right back and I would have him on the teamsheet there every week, but he's atrocious in centre midfield

AGREED 100% - i think the problem is, that's where Hateley wants to play

and I don't know why McCall persists with him there. I wonder what has changed from last season when Carswell was chosen to fill in for the various suspensions of Jennings and Lasley with Hateley still at right back and other options for both positions.

i think on a few occasions Carswell has been unfortunate with niggling injuries this season - but on the whole, ive been banging on about him getting a run in the team. Theres been endless examples listed here where players have been thrown in at the deep end and its "made" them - Stevie Hammell is the standout in the team just now, when McMillan never got his place back

We miss Jennings badly..............................Put Carswell in there and give him that role and see what he can do, can't do any harm.

Hateley has had his chance and it never worked - move back to RB, where you have played all your best games in a C&A jersey. Carswell needs to be given a chance - as yet i dont think that has happened, the same goes for McHugh. If they are not good enough..........let them go. But we are never going to know if they are good enough because they haven't been given that chance

As mentioned by Jay - if Hateley plays RB, its as if he has to drop a "first teamer" to accommodate him. Kerr would maybe lose it - then he might be questioned as to why he has brought someone in on loan and not playing them - that may restrict him in future as the board will say, we're not covering his wages when you dont play them? (i dont know)

Totally agree though, that he has his best/favourite players and wants to shoehorn them into the first 11 - if that is the case, make subs earlier and give the guys a proper run out (not 3 mins)

  15. Derby County are trying something like that this season, no idea how it's going though.

this kind of situation i can see working, Derby are doing well just now and come later in the season, if they are still doing well and with a chance of play off / promotion - this is a team that can sell out their ground

in contrast, look at us last season, outwith the old firm, how many times was the Ark more than half full?

  16. In general attending games should be made as simple as possible and not over-complicating it by having to purchase tickets for games in advance that don't really merit it. It does nothing for ad-hoc decisions by fans to attend games. Take Tynecastle next weekend for example. When its live on TV, a 1245 kick-off, on a Sunday - do we really think that away stand is going to be anything other than 25% full at best? So they make it all ticket and add to the inconvenience further as folk have to make a trip/call to Fir Park or take the gamble that they may be able to pick a ticket on the day up there.

i'm with Andy on this one...........I dont live in Motherwell, and tbh, its a pain in the arse when we have an all ticket game and I need to ask for time away from work to get over for tickets

its not how they price games that needs to be reviewed.................its the pricing in general that needs to be reviewed

    Hearts next week.......£24 for an adult, U18s £18, U8s £8

I have a 9yr old - do you honestly think i'm going to pay £42 to see Hearts entertain Motherwell - hahahaha no f**king chance

as for your dissertation........thats easy - IT DOESNT WORK, there is not enough demand for tickets, especially when a game is on TV - (even if this game was not on TV, I wouldn't be giving any team £42 for a standard SPL game - it is not worth it)

the only way dynamic pricing would work would be if every ground was sold out week in week out - and that doesn't happen, in the last 20yrs it never has, and in the next 20, it never will.

you cant compare us to the US, where typically they have one team per state. That's like saying we only have one team in Scotland - and if that were the case, it may work. You also cant compare it to airlines..........people dont "support" airlines, they have choices Ryanair, EasyJet, BA - whereas my only football choice is Motherwell FC (i dont think i have explained that very well)

So to conclude, Dynamic Pricing, in Scotland, when it comes to Scottish Football - will never take off. People are already turning their back on the game without this strategy trying to creep the cost up further.

  17. Doubtful if you could accommodate all those who currently sit in 3 stands and want to continue sitting in the Cooper Stand alone. There are many like myself who don't like sitting at an end. Standing isn't really an option just now anyway.

Why can we not incorporate home fans in the South Stand? there is plenty of space

Would you not consider moving into the main stand if the East Stand was done away with?

As long as there's filled in corners I'll be happy

Why do the corners need filled in? Personal preference? do you just think it looks better?

  18. how about.............

reduce the capacity of the east stand in half and turn it back into terracing (safe standing areas - and i dont mean the fancy ones in germany, i mean like the good old ones like we seen at Somerset Park earlier in the season) - this can be the MFC seats

give the cooper to away fans(and encourage the away fans to bevvy in there beforehand eg, £25 is entry to the game and 2 pints/drinks) and those in the cooper and those from the east who dont want to stand can go into the south stand

when the south stand has a decent crowd it can generate a good atmosphere, turn it in our favour

let the "bois" run the roost in the east, with loads of flags at each end of the stand to add some colour (and of course everyone who does go into the east signs a disclaimer that allows smoke bombs and claret n amber flares)

the area between the east and the south should be turned into a home fan area - even if its just some sort of large gazebo. Sell food and drink at reasonable prices £2 for a burger, not £3............and if it is £3 give us some chips with it! encourage folk to come along, its another way to get much needed money into the club. Change the gate at the south / east end into a turnstyle

maybe some radical changes listed, but it shakes it up a little and does keep us at fir park and i think at not that much expense

  19. 1. Knock down and rebuild the East / redevelop/upgrade the PoD bearing in mind it will never be the full length of the pitch.

i dont actually think this is possible - someone in the building industry or with more savvy than me may be able to provide more light, but with the school directly behind the East Stand - i just dont think it would be possible.

I cannot see my self going to New Douglas Park or where ever to cheer on my team Motherwell.

as much i wouldnt be happy with that either - if that was the only way to see my team, its what i'd need to do

So the South Stand hold 4856, so all Motherwell fans could easily fit into the South Stand and offer the Cooper to away fans???? (i'm presuming this would not be a popular choice???)
