  1. Hearts and Accies at the bottom of the league with no points - long may it continue!
  2. The other thing that strikes me is, did we see anything different last night from what we saw for most of last season? We were up against a team who had 9 men and the Welsh pie eating champion behind the ball and as usual we played some good football, some strong posession but nothing decisive in the last third. That was the story of the majority of last year. I don't think we would have been any better with Quinn, Hughes and Clarkson in the team. Jim Gannon (MP -??) now knows what he needs to do. Whether he can make a difference in a week or not I don't know but by the start of the SPL season we should be in a better position.
  3. I agree with the thought that we played quite well, but on the basis that the best three players came from the youth squad. I hope John Sutton is embarrassed by the fact that a bunch of teenagers can play and show more energy, movement, skill and awareness than he has since he came to the club. I am not too worried about the season ahead. I think we will struggle for the best part but I am always of the view that I would much rather watch the young boys play their heart out and get beaten by a better team than a bunch of journeymen just there to pick up a wage. Hopefully as Jim Gannon said last night, these boys can be coached and will improve. The worst part about last night however was Michael Fraser's outfit - absolutely howling . I hope we never see that again. They always say a week is a long time in football. Here's hoping.
  4. Ok so Smith wants to go. I suggest we give him a map of Scotland and get him to throw a dart at it and that can be where he goes. So could it be Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock...... I reckon if he throws a dart the way he kicks a ball he will end up in the middle of the Atlantic!
  5. Like many I am quite glad McGhee has said what he has and I too hope he sticks by it. The problems for me this season were laid before Christmas and the amount of games we lost due to poor defending but generally not at the back but from the midfield. The way I see it is that Bob Malcolm was never interested in playing for us; Stephen Hughes is a great football player but suffers from a lack of application he has had all his career. A play making midfielder should always be there looking for the ball. How often do you see him standing on his own waiting for it to happen. I just don't think Sutton is good enough for the SPL. I always say that the spine of the team needs to be the strongest and this year we have been pretty weak. Ultimately the season has been spoiled by too many draws. The other big problem we have is with the pitch, and there is only one person to blame for that. At the end of last season the pitch was supposed to have been lifted, the drainage and heating repaired and a new surface relaid. It was quite obvious at the pre-season matches that it had only been patched and this season again we ended up with nothing better than a tatty field. I played on better pitches as a school boy. Hopefully this summer it will get done properly and we can have a proper surface to play on. However, all is not lost. I thought it was a vivid reminder of how bad things could be with the picture of Twaddle and Townsley in this weekends pogramme. Next season will be fine.
