If Celtic win the Cup it goes to 5th in the League. Any other Cup Winner and 5th misses out....

Its the contesting the ball part that is the problem. Players jostling and wrestling for the ball happens at every corner/free kick and is generally unpunished by referees until the ball comes in the vicinity of the players contesting. At that point the players know they risk giving away a penalty which in this case you admit was rightly given. If Longelo and Maeda have equal chance of getting their heads on the ball it probably isnt a red card, but Maeda rolls Longelo and gets in front of him, at that point Longelo just has to let go as there is no way he is getting to it. He doesnt, prevents a clear goalscoring opportunity and given that he wasnt trying to get to the ball, just stop Maeda, its a red. You cant change the wording of the laws of the game to suit our purposes.

Fantastic interview. Ferry comes across as a total fanboy, but I actually quite like that. The insight into Jens mind and thought processes is incredible. He really is a special guy. (Psychological safety!) The more I hear him speak though, the more I feel he see's us a project he can mould in his own image. He clearly loves it here, and I think it will take more than just money to prise him away. It will require the right club, with the right ethos that he views as a compatible match for him and his aspirations. (I am aware there are likely to be a few of them around and at some point one of them will come for him).

Ive seen a number of posters referring to the double jeopardy rule, so this isnt directed at you, but...... It only applies if the defender has made a genuine attempt to play the ball. Longelo makes no attempt to play the ball, so the double jeopardy rule does not apply here.

Elijah Just. Given the treatment that he got from Celtic throughout the game his performance was magnificent. Full of energy, full of running, great out ball and lovely finish for his goal (Im not having it that he didnt strike it cleanly). He is the difference maker in our team and the one player we cant do without.

Thought he did reasonably well when he came on. St Mirren look a shadow of the team they were in the league cup though.

I agree. Using the above logic our season has been over in January for the last 4 years as we have never thought winning the league was possible. Whether you believe we had any chance of winning the league this year or not, just having a conversation about it was something new. This season wont be over for me until the last ball is kicked and we see how high up the league (or otherwise) we finish. I think 4th and European football would be a very good return on top of the entertainment we have enjoyed this season.

Dont disagree with any of that. The only thing I would take issue with is that its a "mentality" thing. Some bad decision making, lack of quality at vital times, bad refereeing decisions and just plain bad luck have all contributed to the games we have lost this season. At no point have I felt that we just never turned up or bottled it.....

I think the red card is for DOGSO. My reading is that Longelo and Maeda are wrestling with each other prior to the corner. Maeda rolls Longelo and gets in front of him. Longelo continues to hold Maeda who has the opportunity to head it towards goal. Longelo prevents this and Maeda goes to ground. If Longelo lets go there is no penalty and no red card. Maeda probably scores, but we still have 11 v 11. Its a sore one, and a lesson learned for Longelo, but I dont think we can argue it. I know some folk think that "double jeopardy" should come into play, but thats only if there is a genuine attempt to play the ball. Longelo has no idea where the ball is, let alone trying to play it.

I think Tex meant for wrestling in the box at a corner. I agree, you dont usually see that. However, when it happens at the back post, your defender is isolated and the keeper has come and missed leaving the goal wide open, it creates a particular set of circumstances that is hard to defend.

I wouldnt include the Aberdeen Cup game. Nothing wrong with our mentality in that game. Even after the first freak red card, we regained our composure and control over the game. At 10 v 10 we were the better team and looked like we had every chance to get back in it. Our second red card kills it, and Im not having that as a red card ever. Killie had a player brought down on the edge of the box tonight goalside and absolutely getting a shot away. Yellow card. The standard of officiating in this country is horrendous.

I think if its a tackle and considered a genuine attempt to win the ball, then the double jeopordy rule is applied. However, I think DOGSO overules that in this case as its not considered a genuine attempt to get the ball. Be interested to hear a referee's view, right enough.....

It will be a big test for us next week however. Hibs have some very good players and we will be without Longelo and possibly Fadinger. At least Welsh is back, but with Koutroumbis still out and RCC injured, the inability to sign LB cover in the window might come back to bite us. Gonna be very limited for options there.

I dont think thats fair. The only big game I dont think we turned up in was the League Cup semi-final, and even that game was down to "moments". Performance wise, we have been excellent against Hearts twice, Celtic three times and Rangers three times. Results wise you could make an argument for it, but given all 3 teams have significantly bigger budgets than us and are above us in the league, they might just be better/luckier than us. The fact that we have been able to go toe to toe with them is a significant improvement on mindset and performance levels from years gone past. Of course, if we want to develop and get better, Jens will have to find a way to bridge the gap and turn those performances into results.

Thought we were very good first half and deserved to be 1-0 up. Poor decision making for their goal. You can blame any number of players for it, but the manager wants them to play that way so seems churlish to try and hang it on any one individual. Oxlade - Chamberlain should have walked for a second yellow for his foul on Said, but we dont get those kind of decisions in Glasgow. Second half MON changed it up and their press was far more effective. That led to far more loose passes and mistakes and ultimately the pressure that leads to the penalty. Anyone arguing that its not a pen and a red card really needs to take their claret & amber shades off. Maeda might well be pulling Longelos jersey, but the minute he rolls him and gets goal side Longelo has to let go. Maeda has a clear header, so its a DOGSO. Games a bogey at that point, although I would still have like to see Eythor on much quicker and go more direct. We dont seem to want to throw long balls or crosses at him, despite how good he is in the air. Overall, decent performance up until the red card. Disappointing result. Time to put the title race chat to bed and focus on 4th place.
