That Old Chestnut - Do We Move Or Do We Stay
joewarkfanclub replied to Kmcalpin's topic in Club Chat
I like the idea behind the Birmingham City stadium. It would be nice to have a tip of the hat to Ravenscraig incorporated within our stadium, whether that be a museum or just in the design. Realistically, Kansas City Womens stadium is probably more in line with we could afford. Albeit I dont like stadia with open sides as per Falkirk or Hamilton....... -
That Old Chestnut - Do We Move Or Do We Stay

Very interesting! Certainly a load of ideas in there to broaden our horizens as we move forward. -
I wouldnt have Gordon near it. Celtic will isolate him and press him when he has the ball, much like we did with Hanley. However, the ball over Sparrows head in behind has proved a weakness as well, so will be interesting to see what Jens prefers......

If McGhee starts tomorrow, that would be a huge risk. He has barely featured since his return to fitness and cant have anywhere near the minutes necessary to be thrown in from the start. It would be very "Un-Jenslike" to throw him in like that.
-
I would have thought if he was in JBAs plans his minutes would have been built up by now. He certainly cant start. From the little Ive seen, he looked slow and ponderous. Not surprising given his injuries, but would have expected to see him feature more as he tried to regain fitness.

Missing Welsh and Johnny K certainly weakens us in a squad sense as it removes options for freshening things up. However, SOD & McGinn have been very good in the middle together so Id expect them to start. As Ive posted elsewhere, Celtic aren't without their own issues, with CVV, Johnston, Trusty, Engels and MacGregor all likely to be missing and possibly Tierney as well. Centre half pairing likely to be Scales & Dane Murray, so I think they can be got at. Martin O'Neill teams are generally solid and hard to play against, so Id expect a harder game.than we got at Fir Park, but by the same token they are not gonna play a low block and hit us on the counter, so we should get more space to play our football. We need some chaos back in our lives! Go Ibi! ๐งกโค๏ธ๐งก

SODs looks and sounds like a different player now. So pleased he is enjoying himself. Seems like one if lifes good guys! Interesting he referenced that some managers can "throw you under the bus" wonder if Graham Alexanders ears were ringing! ๐๐๐

I was very young, but I thought Craig Brown was McLeans assistant, or was he just a coach?

I think you need to look a little more closely at what happened last year. The Well Society were absolutely marginalised by the old board, who were happy for us to be a token guesture and take our money when it suited. We had no real power until the, then Society Board addressed these governance issues and flexed their muscles a little. The reason we have 2 members on the board now and a Chairman and CEO who are in lockstep with the fan owned ethos, is because of the efforts of these indivuduals. We are now a properly fan owned club with actual representation and a say in the big decisions effecting us. Its sad that there are some still diseffected but if the Well Society hadnt acted so decisively we would now be in the hands of a charlatan and the family silver would have been pawned.

Yeh, prior to 2016 they didnt have any significant history even within Norwegian football. In the last 10 years they have evolved "through a sustainable, performance-driven model that combines high-value player sales, consistent UEFA competition revenue, and strategic reinvestment rather than reliance on a single wealthy benefactor" Sound familiar?

Pleased for Robbo. He deserves the chance to show what he can do with bigger resources. I wish him well, but not too well!

Jens has name checked them at least once in pressers when talking about us and what we want to be. Obviously with the caveat that we are in the very early stages of trying ro build something and ultimately may not get anywhere near where they are. But hope is an intoxicating thing. Its nice to dream.

There are 2 counter arguments going on here that can be true at the same time. It is clearly very difficult for a club like ours to hold onto a good manager and good players, because as many have stated, money talks. Players and managers are ambitious so they will always want to test themselves at a higher level (and be remunerated for that). However, just because the manager and our better players will move on, doesnt mean we cant still try and build on that success. If we are smart, we move the players on when it suits us, for fees that allow us to re-invest in the squad and strengthen as a club. We also trust in the process that led us to Jens and try to find someone else who fits the same mould. Obviously, there is an element if luck attached to these things, but just as there is a cost to bad decision making (as we have seen in the past) there can be a benefit to good decision making. With the Well Society now pulling the strings at the club, we have discovered our identity, and we now have a model in place, that if done correctly, can be sustainable. Being the best version of ourselves that we can be is the ambition the club needs to show, and so far its going pretty well.....

I dont think this manager and squad are burdened with the mentality that we dont get anything from these games. That said, Celtic still have enough about them to win the game, but it honestly wouldnt surprise me if we got some kind of result. It would be nice if we could wrestle the feelgood factor back at the first time of asking....

Strikes me that the Aberdeen board have no idea who they are as a club or even who they want to be. This seems so far removed from the boy from St Ettienne that their "sporting director" was after.....
