Wimmer was constrained by the fact he arrived when the season was in full swing, and didn't have a preseason to instill his style into the players. As a result, compromises had to be made to balance his new philosophy with avoiding relegation and winning games. What is true, I think, is that his ideas prepared the squad for JBA, so they already had an idea of what was required to play this way.

Rumours of Callum Hendry incoming. May just be a load of hot air though.
-
Agreed. He totally shat giving their player a second yellow on the touchline when Longelo did him down the line and he sent him up in the air. It was a yellow all day long so he should have been off. Need to see the SOD penalty again but looked like a stone waller in real time.

Just bought my ticket! Mon me going to away games! Mon the vegan pies

I personally think his style will work better than Wimmers although that's maybe unfair to Wimmer as we didn't have enough time to see what he could do Im really liking JBA
-
He said a couple of weeks ago the League Cup games had interfered with the training he wanted to do and that we wouldn't be at the necessary levels until later in the season. It's certainly an intense style of play, but must be a lot more fun to execute than last season (pre-Wimmer).

SOD got booked for diving when one of their players stamped on his ankle. I don't know who it was but quite early on in the game Motherwell fans thought that one of the St Johnstone players was going to get a yellow - the ref just walked over to him gave him a pat on the arm and walked off. Don't think he completely ruined the game but some really questionable decisions there.
-
Just had a really effective game, but I just can't go for him as MOTM because his decision making and final ball are generally brutal. Hopefully, that will improve. He has fantastic dribbling ability. I gave my vote to SOD, who was really solid today and played some superb, sliderule passes and crissfield balls. He is our best ball playing defender, by far.
-
Agreed, the ref seemed to give St.Johnstone a free kick every time one of them fell over, but Motherwell players were being manhandled all over the pitch and got very little from him.
-
Think we also had a few shouts for a penalty during the game - the ref was rotten
-
Absolutely, Calmer made a bad decision. There was no need to barge the guy in the back. Very lucky not to concede a pen.
-
A couple of shaky moments but I thought Ward did really well today
-
Interesting boss said players burned a lot of calories that need to be burned hinting that they not all fully mstch fit yet as we know. Getting into good positions. Just lacking that composure in final third.
-
No, just training with us helping them stay fit..As they have no coaches and no access to training facilities

Played really well - my nerves were shattered by the end though. Nice to see the Motherwell fans have a clap in the 38th minute for Miller I've not been to McDiarmid Park in decades (the shame) but I was completely transfixed by the fact there was a screen showing the game as well (And they sell vegan pies).

Lots of good performances today. Thought Watt was excellent again. He is going to be the glue that holds us together this season. Fadinger decent again and got the vital goal. Stama did a power of running and led the press well. If our delivery improves he might actually get some chances to score! Just was my MOTM though. Total buzz bomb throughout and the one trying to repeatedly unpick the St Johnstone lock. He did tire towards the end of the game and I would have probably subbed sooner. Just hope it is only cramp he was suffering from and not any sort of muscle injury.

Bailey Rice injured today. Also cup tied. Hopefully puts that one to bed....

Thought we played very well again today. St Johnstone started really well but tonce we figured them out we basically dominated the ball. We do need to be better with out decision making and delivery in the final third, that way, we might allow our only striker to have some shots at goal that he can be fairly judged on! We are still a little weak at the back and gifting some unecessary chances, and a mixture of those two weaknesses could have seen us in trouble today, but we managed to keep the clean sheet and get the goal required to see us over the line, so all good. Osong didnt really show me too much today to suggest he will be the answer to our striking problems, but he was played out wide, so I will wait until we see him thru the middle before passing judgement. I did think he would be quicker than he showed however. Overall, another solid team perdormance and you can see ethe players are all having fun and buying into the managers philosophy. Most of them were absolutely burst by the end. Also nice to see young Xander McAllister get a start. Both he and Luca Ross provided a fresh energy to proceedings when they camae on. Big couple of weeks for the management team now. We clearly need some bodies in the door. Hopefully they will be of the quality required for us to have a successful season. We are so close to having a really good team.

3 players from our academy on at the final whistle today and another excellent talent with Forrest on the bench. I think this is all very positive

The premise of your post is that every time we have a big crowd we are shite and lose. Its a trope on here that fly's in the face of actual facts. We played well last week at a difficult away venue and didnt lose. We did the same today and are in the next round of the cup. So maybe we need to put this nonsense to bed.

Cheers. I had totally forgotten about that.

Was there any news on Slattery? I’m assuming he was injured rather than subject to a transfer bid, but didn’t see anything.

McAllister did well on his short run out today. Delighted for him. So hopeful. But to come in right away and impact games is asking a lot. Luca Ross. I'm not so sure. Given the time he has been around the first team squad and the experience gained whilst on loan I would have hoped he would be further ahead than he seems to be. In truth I was surprised we extended his contract. I actually thought he might move on after his loan spell was over. I know he is still only 18 but I think he is a wee bit lightweight. Connolly was another I thought might move on given he is a lot older and has not really featured as a first team player. Maybe there are less opportunities for goalies to impress. And we were discussing youngsters able to take the step up right now and impact games being sidelined by Loanees. I don't see any that are ready. Next season possibly after building up more game time and experience over the course of this season. But not now. But hey, I'm not a coach and I'm probably being a bit harsh. I wish them all well but I don't think any of the youngsters I have seen this season or last are first team ready. It's a tough, physical League. I felt differently when I first saw Miller and Turnbull although I accept that is a high bar. But , for me, even below that level the likes of Scott, Campbell and Hastie had more about them. I had high hopes for Sam Campbell but sadly his knee injury did for him. I really wish Scotland had something like an under 21 League which I believe was critical in the development of so many players over the years. And the matches were a good watch. I feel for kids who reach the age of 17/18 and often have nowhere to go if they cannot step up to the first team squad. Only very few can be loaned out. Late developers have little chance and many youngsters just disappear from the game. It's a harsh world. Cancelling the Reserve League also badly affected youngsters looking to make their way in the game. At least we have the Challenge Cup I guess but games are limited. Ross, McAllister etc playing in a reserve league with a mix of seasoned pros and other youngsters would better prepare them for the step up. But finances dictate as always. Only my view of course. Many will disagree and hopefully I am proved totally wrong. I'd be delighted if that proves to be the case and Luca Ross and Zander McAllister turn out to be the next Turnbull and Miller. You can say ' I told you so' if that happens.
