He had a shoulder injury earlier on in the summer that they thought might need surgery but didn't (can relate as someone who broke their shoulder, easy done). He also had an injury in 2023 but not sure what it was - hopefully he'll kick on. Celtic fans seem to be sorry he's going from what I've seen on twitter - but maybe they are just unhappy at their awful transfer window Yeah heard that too - that someone failed a medical
-
Rumours suggest that we had a central defender lined up to join but that deal fell through when he failed a medical. Who knows? Stephen Welsh has the right physical attributes and is ostensibly the kind of defender who would fit into our system, from what I can gather. My main, probably sole, concern, is that he is injury prone. Fingers crossed we carried out a rigorous medical.
-
Aye we could have done with another striker but hopefully Hendry will come good - I personally think Ewan has a lot of talent but started strong and lost confidence last year - very visible and it's probably for the best he moves on just now Just need to see what transpires if we can get any free agents in and see what happens in January From what I have seen on Twitter Celtic fans are saying they are sorry he's moving on. Hopefully things will work out well for him
-
As far as Ewan Wilson is concerned, you're right. However that tells me that JBA is quite happy to see him move on, irrespective of our needs as a club. He's on his way out. I'd say the window has been a mixed bag. We've brought in some really decent midfielders so thats that box well and truly ticked. Up front, the striking department has been found seriously wanting and the jury is still out as to whether we've really addressed that area. Defence, I'm not sure at all. We're short at left back. Central defence has been a serious weakness of ours for quite some time and, despite that, we bring in one injury prone loanee with an hour or so to go before the window closed. Goalkeepers? Our problem surfaced too late to actively address. I get that there's still the free agent market that we could tap into. So far this season, our defence and attack have been two weak areas and I'm not convinced we've addressed those parts of the team. I hope I'm wrong of course and its early days.

He might if someone puts red bull on his cereal

Ewan said he wanted to go in his interview with Raith , he asked his agent to get him a move from Motherwell and to be fair - I think a lot of our injuries have been down to bad luck. I think this has been a really decent transfer window.
-
Aye but he is a bit slow and won't ever get any faster.
-
With our record on injuries? I guess that's Ewan Wilson well and truly out of the picture then.
-
There's a meet the manager with Jens on Sept 11. Well society have posted the details on twitter
-
Of course but that's not certain and we can still pick up free agents
-
If he was to pick up an Injury at any point
-
Various reasons, player can pick up an injury at any time or an accumulation of cards could see him missing games. I’m not overly concerned that either of those things will happen but they’re is a possibility.
-
Why would he be?
-
We have previous for starting with 4 draws, the most by any team in Scottish league history @terrace_podcast 3 teams - Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Rangers - have 4 draws from 4 games to begin this league season. That has only happened another 4 times in the 135-year history of the Scottish top-flight: Third Lanark (1962/63) Motherwell (1975/76) Aberdeen (1988/89) Motherwell (1995/96)
-
Then SOD plays for several games. It would be great to have a replacement for every starting spot, and have each replacement to be match fit and ready to go, with a performance level equal to the players they are replacing - but that's not always possible for a club our size. it's also quite possible we had more targets that fell through, and we'll just have to make do until the next window. Based on what I saw in the early part of the season, however, SOD at left back would be better than Wilson at this stage.
-
That's taking a huge and unnecessary risk. What if Longelo is out for several games?
-
Yeah he’d probably do fine there too. Not to be disrespectful of the position but It is the easiest position on the park imo. Any decent midfielder or defensive minded player could play there and not look that out of place.
-
numpty started following Aberdeen v Motherwell league cup game
-
While I'm not a fan of full backs playing on their wrong side, SOD has played at left back quite a few times and could no doubt provide cover there too.
-
I think we are keeping Halliday for the back up left back. He’s played there in the past and might not be the worst option.
-
Main site finally caught up https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2025/09/01/stephen-welsh-arrives-on-loan-from-celtic/
-
I imagine the SPFL would just set the price at normal league game levels.
-
No left back then? If so, it's weird that we let Ewan Wilson go out on loan.
-
Don’t think that the prices are that bad for a quarter final
-
I get that, but what if we'd have been unwilling to budge?
-
That’s exactly the modern CB we needed. Here’s hoping it works out all round.
