Maybe, but why should it have taken until now for the Society to up its game? Why wasn't the Society actively examining and proposing meaningful ways to increase the membership and raise further inward investment? Why has it taken until now for the Society to confirm that 3800 members don't correlate with 3800 active monthly direct debits? Has the Society been in cruise control for many years, resting on its laurels until it felt a threat from the Club? Both the Society and Club are within their rights to propose anything concerning ownership and inward investment, and perhaps it's just that the latter got its finger out first. I am a monthly paying Society member and have been for a long time, but there are so many other unanswered questions and points of speculation to be had from both sides, which has me questioning what's going on behind the scenes. This whole thread is becoming a tit-for-tat nonsense. Keep it up, everyone.

I agree with an awful lot of what you say. I think the Society has maybe been complacent, to put it politely. However, I'm mindful that they have been operating during extremely challenging times of late and I'm not about to start criticising those who have volunteered their time and unquestionably give their all to the cause. That doesn't mean, however,  those with some fresh ideas could't provide some much needed impetuous and from what I'm reading signs are very encouraging.

Regarding the discussion I don't see much wrong with what has been posted in this thread and there are more than two sides to this story. I do agree however it looks like it is set to become a polarising issue and that's no good for anyone.

It sounds very like yourself, and some others on here, have taken the stance that any outside investor should be hunted, even before any discussions as to their intent, because their intent will inevitably be bad.

You might well be right, but it can't be that simple. The Well Society is a large group of individuals, so not everyone will share that view, obviously. And the glaring questions remain - whre will the Society drum up substantial no strings attached investment, and why wait till now to start doing something about it?

That's not what I actually said though.

I'm not even disputing the fact that it is going to be challenging for the Society to raise investment.

If it's left to the Well Society to find additional investment, where would that come from, given the idea any investor is not going to want full control is laughable, in your opinion? Or do you want them to find thousands of new members willing to donate money on a regular basis?

The point I'm making is that the Society, at the very least, should have been given the chance to raise that investment whatever form it may take, without being undermined by those running the Club.

The society are supposed to be putting together a funding proposal as far as I'm aware.

Yeah, which makes the decision to effectively pit the Society's proposal against an outside investor's proposal even more bizarre.

  5. If those in charge of the Club are so in favour of retaining fan ownership why did they effectively cut the Society out by seeking direct outside investment that would likely require the Society to relinquish majority control?

The suggestion that any investor is not going to want full control is laughable. Why have the Society vote othereise? Speculation or not do people really need to have it spelt out to see what's in the pipeline?

IMO the Chief Exec and Chairman should have shown the Society as majority shareholder more respect and at least challenged those involved to attract additional investment and up funds. The freshening up of the Society board gives me a lot of confidence that they are more than capable of achieving something very positive. The timing of the whole thing is awful and has almost set the Society up to fail.

I think it is lost on a awful lot of people just how significant majority fan ownership is and how it was a once in lifetime of the Club occurrence. Giving that up for anything short of a truly spectacular level of investment is crazy.

Again based on what, if you make a statement saying the standard is poor in the SPL what league are you comparing it with?

Every league in the world has shite games, unforced errors, bad referees, average players, boring turgid 0-0 draws etc etc, the SPL is no different but it is what it is.

The SPL may not be populated by world class players but that's the same for the vast majority of leagues all over the world, so don't knock what we have here.

Based on me using my eyes.

You don't need to make any direct  comparisons to know that the standard is poor. Its the very basics we're talking about too.

David Marshall kicked the ball straight to a St Johnstone player yesterday so they took the kicking duties off him only for his centre half to pass the ball straight to the opposition which led to a goal. That sort of thing is endemic in our game.

We have players who consistently pass the ball straight out of play under no pressure whatsoever.

We can just say ach well that's the way it is or we can demand better. If you want the game to improve then there has to be at least an appetite  for it from fans.

Everyone else being equally as shite (which I don't accept at all) has nowt to to with it.

Agreed he's a tosser but 100% correct on what he said, based on what?  He was punted from a league 2 side in England because they were shite is he expecting people to believe that the standard there is better than the SPL.

Every side in league 2 in England would be relegation fodder in the SPL, and probably a few in league 1 as well. It's only when you get to championship and premiership level in England that the standard is better.

The SPL is what it is, and statements like "the standard is shocking" are irrelevant unless you are comparing like for like.

He's using the comparison for effect. Even if it's not 100% true that Morecombe are not exactly 100 times better than County the sentiment that the standard up here is extremely poor is correct.

The basics that teams seem to struggle with are undeniable. It is incredibly poor.

It would be interesting to see the stats for goals scored directly as a result of unforced errors.

You can still promote the league and the competition without being blind to it's shortcomings too.

  8. Blair Spittal's miss and the fact he never even hit the target was criminal. He's got to score.

I'm also getting more that a bit fed up with Slattery's diving. If he focuses on getting his shot away instead of chucking himself to the deck he has a great chance. Someone really needs to get a hold of the laddie and coach it out of him. A total waste.

Delighted for Kelly  - any suggestion that he isn't a very good gaolie is just nuts. Out of form and low on confidence do not suddenly make you a shite goalkeeper.
