Or, being cynical, they know that people are willing to buy anything Motherwell at the moment. So when they run out of the popular stuff it's a good chance to get rid of the stuff that's been there for ages.

Although, I doubt that's the case as Dave did say above that due to our colours it's not so easy to source items and have them here quickly.

Then, of course, we get lots of new stuff to choose from the the new season.

Splitting hairs a touch but the new 'Hampden' training kit is smart but spoiled slightly by the ironed on badge. Motherwell gear with the sewn on badge always looks the best to me. Not sure if this is being 'forced' on the club shop as a cost cutting exercise or a conscious decision themselves.

Maybe not cost, but pressing a badge will take alot less time than embroidering.

That is absolutely correct. By doing it this way it gives us the flexibility to replenish stock quickly and also to give the option for supporters to bring their existing shirts in to get printed. With emroidery this option is just not feasible.

So is there anymore stock due in?

Why no more car flags?

Can understand with the kits, but surely this was a chance to be more creative in the market......Wigs, Sunglasses, Beanie hats, ribbons, anythin claret n amber, stuff that would sell like hot cakes outside Hampden......no?

Sorry Davie,

The car flags have sold very well indeed and unfortunately its an impossible market to predict. We would obviously like to have had more but by the time the first order began to sell quickly there was no more production time at the factory and they are the only manufacturers in the UK. There are options abroad but with an 8 week lead time it is just not possible. In hindsight I should have placed a much larger order and I am kicking myself that I didn't.

Cheers

Alan

In response to Eddiemunster who wants the person in charge of procurement to have their baws kicked:

I am the person responsible for procurement and although its probably against my better judgement I feel its important that I respond.

We have attempted to get wigs, sun hats etc but we could not find any available "off the shelf" in our colours. Any we did find were far too expensive to make them a viable option. Again, we can get them manufactured but not within the timescale. Believe me we have tried. We suffer from the very thing that makes us unique. Our colours are very specific so very few companies will have our colours available. If you want blue, red green etc you are laughing as they stock this gear in abundance. Its not that we have not been creative, its just that we have been unable to.

We have however, in a very short production space, managed to bring in bespoke made pin badges, t-shirts, flags, scarves, t-shirts in two designs and 7 different colours and Polo shirts in four different colours.

All of these items were designed by our in house design department and were designed in advance of the semi final. We actually spent three days working with manufacturers who we operate closely with on designs that may have gone in the bin if we had lost. Without this extensive prep work we would have lost vital production time and would have squeezed the window even tighter.

These manufacturers then held production space on the Monday morning just in case we got through and when we did they began manufacture immediately.

We also got the UK's largest transfer manufacturer to turn around transfers for our jerseys within 10 days. This is eight days ahead of their usual lead time and they do this as we are one of their biggest customers and we can use our influence to make this happen.

As "the person responsible for procurement", I co-ordinated all of this on my holidays, effectively taking three days out of my family holiday and sitting in my hotel room sending emails and making phone calls to ensure that we could have as much product on sale as possible.

Since coming back from that holiday (now 4 weeks ago) I have worked every single day along with my staff, operating The Well Shop and also operating the temporary shop in the town centre. Most mornings have seen a 5.30am start and a 9pm finish as we have to stock that shop in the morning and empty it at night. Me and my staff will continue to do this all the way up to kick off on Saturday and will be working right through the match to get everything done.

Leeann Dempster and her staff at Motherwell F.C. have also been working pretty much around the clock as there is so much to be done that goes unseen.

All of this is done at one of our busiest times as we are already working hard preparing for next season.

I don't tell you this to look for sympathy as it is the job I'm paid to do which I very much enjoy. Business has been very good and the atmosphere in the shops has been terrific as the buzz builds toward the final. All of our customers have been brilliant and the mood has been great, even when they have had to endure long queues for both tickets and merchandise. Its been a joy to be working at Motherwell F.C at the moment. These occasions are rare and we are enjoyning every minute.

I tell you this so that maybe you can get an insight into the scale of the task and the effort that goes into it from everyone invloved and that if we didn't manage to get wigs or ribbons its not for the want of trying,

Apologies for the long rant but I feel better now :)

Cheers

Speaking as someone who has worked at 2 football clubs during my career, I welcome your 'rant'.

Most supporters have no idea of the work that goes on behind the scenes, or the lead times involved in producing products for any clubs outwith the OF.

Very possibly demand was underestimated to an extent, but better that than be left with excess '2011 Cup Final' stock rendered virtually unsellable by a defeat (or worth a premium after a victory)

The very nature of football is uncertainty, and unfortunately, that doesn't fit well with other businesses, presumably the one Eddie works in isn't dependent on quite the same number of uncontrollable variables. (I would pretty much guarantee that, as very few are)

On behalf of us all Alan, I appreciate that you have gone 'above and beyond' here and made a right few quid for the Club we all love

WELL done mate

Is it still possible to bring in a shirt and get the Cup transfer put on?

Also, would it still be possible to have the sponsor printed onto an away shirt bought at the start of the season? Never had a chance to get it done, as I'm usually wearing the shirt when I'm down

I thought he was just taking the pish out of one of our more stubborn posters, Canterbury anyone

almost word for word and sentiment those posts could have been from the sponsors thread last year

anyway fair play for the effort in by the shop, business owners and staff alike, put the hours in and tried to deliver

sadly not much for me to buy, but the kid will like the flag

This is the difference between shopping & procurement.

Alan, the amount of hard work being done by you & everyone at the club is not in question, neither was I questioning the lines you were able to stock in the shop. I just find it strange that for example we do not have a framework arrangement in place with Puma that allows us to call off orders for the "bespoke" jerseys we have, instead we seem to rely on one off ordering from them with no SLA built in to ensure priority delivery.

I can absolutely assure you that no such framework exists from Puma or any other kit manufacturer that operates at this level. If it was available it would make my job a whole lot easier. They just will not manufacture stock and sit on it until we need it. If we place an order, we have to pay for it (within 30 days at that).

As we were coming to the end of the season our stock levels were exactly where they should be as we use all the forecasting information we have to ensure this is the case. If the sponsor changes (as it just has) and we are sitting on extensive stocks they become almost worthless overnight.

The only way I could have had more jerseys would have been to order prior to the semi final and thats too expensive a gamble to take. Imagine if we had placed a huge order and then lost the semi final. Its my neck on the line if I take risks like that.

Anyway, its not so much the fact that you question our abilities that concerned me. I'm big enough and long enough in the tooth to accept criticism. I'm also more than capable of putting my defence across. What I take huge exception to is being told that I "need my baws booted"

Its very easy to use such language on forums without aforethought to the effect that it may have. I can tell you that its highly unpleasant and also just not necessary.

I would thank you in future to keep your postst respectful as I will always accept valid criticism where its due.

Probably best to let this thread die now..

I placed an order for two 'Well cup final scarves Tuesday afternoon online, as I wasn't sure I'd be able to get out to the shop this week before the game. They arrived today, Special Delivery, next day shipping and delivery. Fantastic service, given that its probably the busiest time for years in the shop. Kudos to Alan, SCDave and all the shop staff. :notworthy:
