  1. Celtic Football Club statement

    By: Newsroom Staff on 09 Dec,2013 15:00

FOLLOWING events on Friday evening at Fir Park Stadium, Celtic Football Club today announced that it hasissued precautionary suspensions against 128 individuals preventing them attending matches involving Celtic, pending further investigation. These suspensions will cover matches at Celtic Park and away matches.

In addition, the Club will be relocating around 250 season book holders in Section 111 to other areas within the stadium, or offering refunds covering the remainder of the season to those who do not wish to be relocated.

Events such as those on Friday night do not represent the Celtic support or the Club. These events were an embarrassment to our great football club and are absolutely indefensible.

It is clear that there is an element which has no hesitation in bringing Celtic’s name into disrepute. This is something the Club will not tolerate and we therefore have no other option but to take this action. We will not allow the great name of Celtic to be damaged in this way any more - our supporters deserve more than this.

While recent events are very regrettable, we would like to thank our many thousands of fans for the wonderful, positive backing which they continue to give to Celtic. We are sure these supporters will understand the position which the Club is in and we are also sure they will unite with the Club as we move forward.

Celtic Football Club is in excellent shape on and off the field. The Club is in a very safe and strong position and we have a young, exciting team working hard to deliver quality football and success for our supporters, as they did on Friday evening with a magnificent performance. This is what we want to be talking about and this is what we want to celebrate.

Celtic has a proud 125-year history and fundamental to that history have been our fans. Our supporters enjoy a wonderful reputation earned across many years, many families and many generations. This is something we must protect vigorously.

    Hell fucking mend them!

  2. After watching yesterday's game, even though it was a bit on the boring/slow side and looking at the current squad, I'm actually tempted to come back and start attending the games again.

There's nothing quite like reigniting a previous romance.

  3. I usually buy the home top just after their release but I patched this one due to my disapointment with the template.

I'd agree with UBH that a Claret V would be better but there's nothing that could be done about that. IMHO, the insert looks ridiculous and whilst cutting it out doesn't fix the top it's a vast improvement. For me, that's wearable now.

Think I'll now be taking a jaunt down the the Well Shop sometime soon. Cheers for chopping up your top & posting the pic Dez.

  4. Nothing to do with signing players, in fact the opposite as Steelboy indicated that would be the reason directors could be funding Faddy as there is no spare cash for extras when day to day business only just takes care of itself on a good run,

Fair enough they may not have used the money for signing Faddy but from what Steelboy has indicated we might have done if two directors/heroes hadn't stepped up to shoulder that financial cost.

If they did announce plans to dip into the funds and deviate from our original course of action then surely it would be for an absolutely critical cause. Surely they would have made it abundantly clear as to how much was required, why it was required and when it would be repaid back into the war chest.

I understand the club's history and our adverse credit status, I understand why LD plays every decision safe and low risk. By her reckoning all things gone to plan, we could obtain fan ownership with our controlling shares and then we had our pot to fall back upon from that point onwards.

I'm genuinely not trying to be awkward but all I conclusively know is that the WS told some of our members at a meeting that they might dip into the pot. From the above, it looks like they *didn't* use any of it but I still don't know the reason they were toying with the idea in the first place when the plan was to seal the chest until we own the controlling share.

To me, the goal posts seem like they have some potential to move on the down low, with minimum consulation from the members. Kinda goes against the ethos of the WS in my understanding of it.

  5. Yet we seem to be ***VERGING UPON*** dipping into the pot to sign players and increasing the sum required reach our overall capital target and the ultimate goal of fan ownership.

Slight amendment there other than my grammar tidying efforts during my earlier edit. Don't want it to come across than I'm backtracking on reflection.

  6. yes it has been mentioned in meetings that they were going to dip into it for the very reasons it exists and was always planned for:

i.e. as the equivalent of an overdraft or credit facility, not to cover losses at this stage

It was explained to me that the Well Society would not being using any of our 'War Chest' until we had raised enough to obtain all of JB's controlling share in our club. I may have missed it but I thought we had only just hit the first target to have some shares released but not the overall controlling shares?

Infact, LD confirmed the funds raised would remain untouched until such a time we obtained the controlling shares. She went on to explain that if we could not raise the required controlling shares, then each invested sum would be returned to each member, the WS wound down and the MFC board would need to seek an independent buyer for any chance of survival.

This was what was explained to the group during the second Q&A in the Cooper, after announcing the plans for the WS and prior to the FSA go ahead.

Admittedly, I haven't made the last two meeting due to work and college commitments but I haven't seen anything from either board (MFC or WS) to suggest the plans had changed. Yet we seem to be dipping into the pot to sign players and increasing the sum required reach our overall capital target and the ultimate goal of fan ownership.

  7. Was it a straight red?

Unfortunately it was, over nothing too.

A daft foul was awarded to Aberdeen, Cummins decided to have a wee word with the ref. It looked pretty civil for about 20 seconds but he must have said something cheeky as the ref started flapping and whipped out a red.

There was a catalogue of odd decisions up to that point so I guess that was just 'the straw that broke the camel's back' for Big Scouse.

  8. Maybe on today's showing in isolation but Cummins, Carswell, Higgy have all proven in the 1st team they are good enough. McHugh, ZFA also not far away.

I wouldn't say Higginbotham has proven himself. The wondergoal aside, based on his appearances at FP in the first team and at Den's on Saturday, I don't think he's been particularly great.

I actually think he seems to squander the ball frequently and loose possession, more so than any of our other players. It's obvious he's keen, he wants to get involved and I'd love for him to slot into the Murphy role but he's not quite there yet.

In other news, Cummins getting a red card today rules him out for the St Mirren game. He's played more games in the SPL than the U20's so the ban will impact the next match of the league he plays in most frequently. Apart from the kiosks being shut, this was the shittest part of the day for me.

  9. I'm doing the Convert for Cash challenge tonight, I'll hopefully not let the side down.

Can anyone do me a favour and video it?

The other half can't make it tonight and she's a bit gutted she'll miss it.

I will if I remember and can figure out the camera on my phone.

It will probably be the only goal we score tonight, but nae pressure.

That's great mate, thanks very much.

Have the Motherwell fans not won every convert for cash challenge this season?

    No pressure on you mate......

Haha! The shame will be untolerable now if I balls this up!!

  10. I'd take it with a pinch of salt. That board has been misleading before. A few week's ago, I noticed Higdon's name omitted from the starting 11 and he played from kick off.

Yeah I agree that it should be taken with a pinch of salt but I'd be happy for the pair of them to start after Tuesday's excellent result in the U20's match. This could be the beginning of a great partnership.

  11. They do a Motherwell tartan that's grey with C&A in it. Nice and quite subtle. Not linked to MFC though (although I think you get (or got) a discount with a season ticket??).

I'm sure Dalgleish do the official Motherwell tartans, three of them iirc.

I've also seen some other 'unofficial' ones elsewhere that were pretty nice but can't find them for love nor money now though.

  12. my mum was saying someone at the club was telling her that Murphy is away to Sheffield... I just past it off as one of the rumours such as "We're signing Barry Ferguson"

    There's no smoke without fire

Getting flamed in every thread must be a linen nightmare.

  13. Scott burns on twitter saying English clubs in talks with motherwell over January move for striker. No names or clubs mentioned but would obviously be Murphy. More in tomorrow's Express apparently.

    Sheffield United

    http://www.express.co.uk/football/view/365195/Sheffield-United-eye-Motherwell-s-Jamie-Murray

Quoting a potential £60k fee yet they can't even get his name right, absolute tits.

If there's an element of truth in this and Bournemouth and United are both interested, is 60k too low even in the January window? Do we attempt to haggle at risk of both parties backing off and waiting until the summer?

  14. Fear a late 2-1 defeat as Aberdeen are masters of grinding a team down.

Praying for a repeat of our Dundee Utd replay in 2011. One of the best games at FP in recent memory.

My first ever Motherwell game, I'd bite yer hand off for that kind of replay on Tuesday!

I'm predicting a 2-1 win for the good guys with us conceding first, Murphy equalizing & Higgy getting the last in the final 10 minutes.

  15. I see a few folks voted for Hollis as Sat's MoM. Do we have an automatic replacement for Randolph ?

I've never had the fear with Hollis between the sticks. He's a great keeper and when Randy's gone I'd fully expect him to be our number 1.

  16.

A reminder for fans in possession of a ‘Match Abandoned’ voucher that it should be used to enter the re-arranged match this Wednesday night.

Entry for this game will be by Match Abandoned Voucher, pay at the turnstiles or by tickets purchased at the ticket office.

    *****

If you weren’t able to attend the original match or weren’t in the ground at the time of the abandonment, then you can use Voucher 5 to enter the re-arranged.

    *****

2012/13 season ticket holders who were at the match but did not take a voucher will gain entry but only by contacting the club prior to the match and, ideally, not on the day of the game as the ticket office will obviously be very busy as no voucher from Season Ticket will be used.

  17. Couldn't find this thread for the life of me, cheers for the bump Brazilian!

    Good evening 'Well fans,

There is no doubt we are on a difficult run at the moment but we have got to work really hard to turn things around. I don't think the problem we have is with creating chances; from the recent games we have lost, we perhaps could have achieved more had we been more clinical in the final third.

I don't believe there is a lot wrong; look at our opponents on Saturday St Johnstone. They along with Inverness were down near the bottom at the start of the campaign but put together a great wee run and pushed themselves to the top end of the table. There is such a fine line between success and failure in this division and the margins are so small.

We've had a bit of bad luck both in terms of losing late goals and some calls from the officials. That will change soon I am sure. At this stage, the league table isn't essential, it's just about winning football matches and that is our aim this weekend against Saints.

Steve Lomas' side will be looking to bounce back from a midweek Cup defeat at the hands of Celtic but I don't anticipate that result will have any effect on Saturday's match. I think we are all sensible enough to know that if you are playing against Celtic, home or away, and they are on top of their game there is very little the other eleven clubs can do. That's no negative, it's not saying that they are unbeatable by any matter of means, you just need things to go for you and they didn't for us at Fir Park a few weeks ago and they didn't for Saints on Tuesday.

St Johnstone have probably got one of the strongest squads in the SPL in terms of depth and experience – they will fancy themselves to be there or thereabouts at the end of the campaign. Steve could probably change four or five bodies and not lose much in terms of quality. That all being said, we are going to Perth confident and looking to take all three points.

Both the players and management staff are desperate to give you, the fans, something to cheer about. We have a big week coming up with games against St Johnstone, Dundee Utd and Dundee. If we can take positive results from these matches then it might put a whole different complexion and raise spirits after a difficult October.

Stick with the team; give the lads all the encouragement you can this Saturday and the two home games next week.

    Thanks and all the best,

    Stuart McCall
