Still on the player squad retention, I thought Ross McLean was also out of contract this summer, but no mention of him leaving, so I take it he has still got another year left of his contract?

MacLean has quickly followed in the footsteps of fellow youngsters Jack McMillan, Chris Cadden and Allan Campbell in committing his future to the Fir Parkers until the summer of 2019.

Yeah it’s possible . He’s not been playing and needs games plus wee Northern Ireland connection with Robinson . Possibly be good place to resurrect his career . We need pace in the team particularly down the left hand side so would be a good fit

O'Halloran? He was born in Glasgow and has played with Scotland through the age groups.

We've been linked with him fairly consistently over the past few windows so there's a reasonable amount of what his agent is saying stacks up. I'm pretty sure there were mentions on here that he was someone we had been speaking to in January but were miles apart in any sort of agreement. I'd imagine the landscape may have changed for him given his current situation at Ibrox.

We don't play with wingers and I don't see us switching from the back 3 with wing backs any time soon. O'Halloran isn't a wing back so if we were interested in signing him it'd presumably be to play as a striker (where he's played on occasion for St Johnstone) or off the forwards in the sort of area Tanner operates.

On the face of it I'd have said that O'Halloran would be the type of player we'd have liked Petravicius to be (but clearly isn't).

Ben Heneghan released from Sheffield Utd

Not quite correct. The Sheffield United news piece says he's one of the players who remain under contract at the club who available for transfer or loan.

Replacing the current season books with the smart cards would be the next logical step for the club to finally drag itself into the 21st century, it would require investment in systems etc but long term it would probably save cash and offer a better ticketing experience for everybody.

Unless I'm being whooshed that is literally what is happening, no?

“We will also be modernising how supporters get into Fir Park. We will migrate from the traditional season book to season cards, as well as using electronic scanners handled by our turnstile operators. We will release more information on this in due course but fans shouldn’t experience any drastic difference in how they enter the stadium.”

Isn't that basically what we get? The shirts issued to the team are made of different materials from the ones us plebs can buy, so presumably they're off a different production line anyway.  (Or at least, that's what the clubs who sell both versions claim, to justify one being twice the price of the other...)

Entirely unrelated to the cup final/new shirt chat but this has put me in mind of something that I'd been wondering for a while.

I picked up a sponsorless version of the 09-10 Canterbury shirt a while back and it's an elastane fabric (in the same vein as Kappa etc) rather than polyester which is what the other replica versions of the same shirt are tagged as.

It's legit tagged and everything but it's got a number on the back but it's not printed on it's actually part of the jersey which seems a bit weird. Similarly the Canterbury logo is embroidered on the replicas but it's part the shirt on the elastane one.

Anyway, at the risk of going off on a tangent I was wondering if anyone on here knew the script?

Bootleg Motherwell shirts seem like they'd be a pretty niche market. Did we have a different player issue version of those shirts?

FWIW: fan of the form-fitting jerseys here.

It seems that we are interested in two of Stranraer's young lads, who are coming on trial.   Article below from Stranraer's website

We also played an under bounce game against Partick yesterday with some trialists I believe - maybe these 2 lads?

Craigan spoke about the trialists for the u20s & the bounce game in his interview post-match the other day (2min 31).

From my understanding of it, we've essentially bought the Ticketmaster software rather than actually letting them sell tickets to our games.

Ah, now I can access the statement on the Official Site, that seems to be the case. (Exactly the kind of statement my company makes when we sell and configure our platform for clients).

    I'm more encouraged by that.

I see ticketing for both Hearts and Hibs is on a Ticketmaster platform. I'd presume ours will be a similar set up.

    Edit to add:

Hibs have no admin fees and no admin fee for printing at home so that matches with the info from MFC.

I remember this interview too, only thing is, I seem to remember him saying the opposite, haha! Something along those lines was said. Not sure what way it was now!

Found it: "To be honest I like centre back more than left back but throughout my whole career the majority of the time I've played left back which I enjoy as well but I like playing centre back more."

I love Charles Dunne but how closely are you watching him? He is a clear your lines style defender, not a wingback.

IIRC in one of the videos that went up around the time he signed he straight up said he preferred playing centre half and that's how he saw himself. The gist seemed to be that he'd only been playing full back/wing back because that's where his managers had been picking him on account of his pace. It wasn't his preference.

Speculation on my part but perhaps Andy Rose is the least likely. I'm led to believe that he was offered an extension  months ago but hasn't signed, commonly believed to be for family reasons. My best guess is 4 from Kipre, Dunne, Tait, Main and Aldred (not sure of his contract position down south).

He's got a year to run on his deal at soon to be relegated Bury. https://www.transfermarkt.com/tom-aldred/profil/spieler/95076

He was asked about Kipre’s contract extension so given the context I took it as contract extensions for 4 players currently at the club.

My guesses would be Kipre, Dunne, Rose and one other, possibly Bowman.

Speaking of context it's worth pointing out that Kipré's current deal expires in 2019. Taking that into account it's not necessarily the case the other 3 are players whose contracts expire in the summer.

His all round play is recognised by the aficionado in our support. We've certainly not been scoring much when he's been out... Waste of Wonga? Behave yourself, it would surprise what he is costing. Very little risk and we certainly don't have anybody to fill the role.

    ^^^^^ Absolutely this.

Put bluntly and regardless of percieved "effort" or whether he's "fat" even this version of Ciftci is a better footballer than Bowman, Petravicius and Newell. He's also a better footballer than Fisher, Blyth, Belic, Robinson, Fletcher et al. "We can do better" is quite a bold claim given we've done plenty worse in recent seasons.

  13. 29 minutes ago, Andy_P said:

I like Cifti and I would be quite happy if we were able to get him on a year contract and see what he can deliver with a full pre-season behind him.  I couldn't agree with the "fat" suggestion but he does look like he's towing a caravan at times.

There certainly hasn't been the glut of goals that I think most people remember from his time at Tannadice and associate him with then but as he's said himself he's a different player from the one who played with Dundee Utd and is playing with different players in a different formation with very different tactics.

And yet no great pace, no glut of goals but when he, Main and Tanner were all involved there was some good and productive link-up play between the three which boded well before both he and Tans succumbed to injury.

So aye, I'd be glad to see him back if a deal could be worked out.

In terms of the weekend though, that's a different matter and quite a poser for Robinson. If he's available for selection I'd be inclined to start with him and Main and use Bowman's energy later in the contest.  I tend to think it would be easier for Ryan to adjust to the pace of the game than for Cifti. If things aren't going too well and we have Bowman on the bench at least there is something there to change the game if needed.  I'm afraid I don't yet have the belief in Newell or Petravicius to do that at the current stage of their development.

    Strongly agree.

I see Ali Crawford is leaving Accies in the summer.

He could do the proverbial job in our midfield - although I suspect he'll be aiming a little higher (or a little better paid).

Lennon was on pre-match before the Accies v Celtic game and admitted he's been looking at Crawford for Hibs.

I wonder whether the issue around these stats is the appearance of Tanner or not, genuinely don't know the answer but my feeling is he is the key to our potency regardless of any Main, Bowman, Ciftci combination

It's definitely a contributing factor. The majority of the games since the winter break we were starting with a front 3 of Main, Ciftci and Tanner.

The run of fixtures through December we were clearly chopping and changing the starting line-ups eg: Bowman + Fisher (vs Hearts + Killie), Petravicius (vs Thistle), Tanner (vs Dundee) or Newell (vs Accies). It's also fair comment to point out the number of players who were either out injured or visibly carrying injuries in those games.

For avoidance of doubt the point of my post on P&B isn't that Ciftci's been better than he has it's simply that we've been more effective in terms of results with a front pairing of Main & Ciftci (+ Tanner) starting than we have with Bowman + a cast of thousands (Moult excluded).

This close season will be involve less time scouring the classifieds but we now have a decent team that now only need complimenting here and there. I do think 2 of the starting 11 below will be poached in the summer but is our best case scenario. I'd like to see if Kipre can play right back and Dunne move out to wide left. Kipre's mazy runs and speed and Dunne's speed offer a lot in those positions.

Cadden has stalled this year and could benefit from trying to adapt his game to take advantage of our tactics. I'd drop McHugh to the bench to bring someone else in to see if they can do his role any better. It may turn out he is better than many give him credit for.

Of course if Kipre goes or Aldred can't be secured then it opens up a host of alternatives. But I believe we have something below that can go on and do damage in this league.

    ------------------ Carson ------------------

    - Kipre -- Hartley -- Aldred -- Dunne -

    -- Tait - Cadden - Campbell - XXXX --

    ------------ Main --- XXXX --------------

    Bench:

    Keeper

    Bowman (he's earned it)

    McHugh

    Rose

    Frear

    Tanner

We need a home win every home game, that's what has stopped us being comfortably in the top  six. Nae draws for me under any circumstances .COYW

Our away form is significantly worse than our home form. If anything has stopped us from being comfortably in the top 6 it's that.

We've lost 5 of 16 at home (Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs, Accies and Killie). We've lost 9 of 15 away (including St Johnstone, County, Thistle, Accies).

We've taken 23 points at home (which is the same as Rangers have at Ibrox) but our away record is the equivalent of Dundee's (14 points).
