  1. I agree about the transfer window and if these guys are around to bring players in at least they have plenty contacts to bring in some players even until the end of the season - nothing fancy, probably just good solid dependable pros that again.get the job done

  2. This is a great appointment in the short term especially if there is some issues with players etc. At the end of the day it's two guys with a wealth of experience at club and international level who know how to steady a ship.

The genius here i believe is Archie Knox being involved, any players with a petted lip can forget about it because he's notorious as the sort of charachter that'll stand for no pish and he's coached players at the highest level with all sorts of personalities.

I don't think they are the long term managerial way forward however over a difficult few weeks when an SPL future could potentially be won or lost i don't think there were two better men out there to take the club forward - no risks, nothing exciting just two guys who'll get the job done - afterall, that's what Motherwell need right now.

  3. He's got a good record,doubt he'll be popular though.

Popular or not,on his given credentials he wouldn't be a bad manager to get in charge half way through a season when things could turn decidedly bleak unless something good happens fast.

  4. I don't think that he will have lost the dressing room but one thing i would say about Gannon since he came to scotland is - he really should learn to shut up sometimes. His embarassing tirade week after week against Hugh Dallas was pathetic(from dallases point of view aswell)....it was schoolboy stuff really and gannon on the radio slating dallas and bitching about him not returning letters etc was just totally unprofessional and now his rant towards players not having ability is going the same way. Some washing shouldn't be flashed in public - a agree with him over the refereeing situation totally, and i agree mayby the players aint the best either, but that's not something you should be doing in public.

Jim Gannon made a good start with very difficult circumstances there is no doubt about that,11th would be regarded as a decent result when season expectations were raised when he took charge of the team.

It's a big week ahead, get this over with an if results continue like they have been - then lets start getting concerned. A couple of wins and this will all be forgotten - heres hoping.

  5. Not a massive fan of boo-ing myself but in reality it's the quickest and easiest way for fans to show they dissapointment especially on a day like today.

Players are quick to take the adulation when things are going well so am sure a wee bit of stick today won't do them any harm.

  6. Yeah could be looking at a long hard second half of the season, a think losing games could become more regular now and a good start to the season things seem to have run out of steam quite a bit.

The biggest problem now is that there doesnt seem to be anyone with the required experience in the team going to keep things together and that could be costly. Never know, a defeat on the back of the old firm games was never going to be out the question and it just makes next week vital now because another defeat and then the slide really begins.

  7. Still think people are getting a bit upset over nothing really - ok so u don't want to go to Ibrox with a defeatist attitude before kick off a agree with that but a doubt Gannon said to the boys beofre the game, "away out and get gubbed lads" he is mearly playing a wee game saying afterwards that he didn't expect to win, course he didnt.

As for rangers being poor this season, mayby they have been but they are starting to get themself together in recent weeks and after the shite season they've had so far they are still top of the league and to be honest,it was probably a matter of time before everything clicked and they game someone a hammering 0 sadly it was today, but it could have been any other team in the SPL.

The youngsters have done fairly well this season but lets not forget there wasn't a player in that rangers team today that woudn't waltz his way into the Motherwell team - that's a harsh reality but one that must be remembered, these things happen against teams like Rangers and Celtic.

Someone said burnley beat man utd etc etc etc and yes it does happen, Motherwell have beaten Rangers before aswell - but the wins over Rangers and Celtic are just as rare as the 6-1 thumpings aswell.

C'est La Vie - naeone died, let's just judge the team in games when we DO expect three points. Not ones we HOPED we might get something out of.

  8. Could have been worse, we've watched far more experienced teams go to ibrox and lose 6-1 so i wouldn't read to much into it.

Anyone with any sense said at the start of the season Motherwell will do well to avoid relegation - a few weeks into the season a remember people started talking about 'Europe - top 6 blah blah'. Again, those of us well versed in football played down the talk.

Fact is,Losing to the top three sides in the league is expected - ok,so you want to put up a bit of a show against them yes but bah humbug - league positions arn't decided in games against Rangers and Celtic.

To be honest, the good thing is that Gannon has no real option but to persevere with the youngsters he has and their confidence won't be to badly beaten down by it. Normal league duty resumes again now and it's games against the other 8 teams that are going to determine how the season finishes.

Holding onto some of the loan players needs to be priority though in January or else results like todays could become all to regular.

Sometimes a wee wake up call and reality check isn't a bad thing when some people are getting carried away with a few good results.

Gannon is still doing a remarkable job regardless and if Mothewrwell finish outside of relagation this season then in my opinion, he's done a very very good job.

  9. Agreed. Look to Sheepy Land as an example. Ever since Willie Miller came out and slated the referees after they had 2 guys sent off at Hibees, they have had 3 guys sent off in 3 games. Coincidence?

........................as i was saying.. 'nalty denied...stonewaller apparently.

  10. Aaah shite. Ref gives a dubious offside against us, after last weeks dubious offside against us. Super eh. If I was a paranoid man I would say that Gannons comments against the refs isnt helping us.... good job I'm not paranoid.

T'is a rather good point though, in junior football the fans are always told to lay off the referee for bad decisions because he won't give your team anything if you abuse him.

You'd like to think that it would be different with 'professionals' but same situation still applys. COme out and slate the referee, but he is still the man in charge and slating him or his wee buddies can easily make a 50/50 decision become a 60/40 stacked against you. T'is no fair but...t'is life.

  11. By that logic, can we make the next banner one of Mark McGhee waving a candy cane...?

If that could be done in such a way that it was firmly tounge in cheek then yes - that would be quite funny i think. Infact i think it would be very very funny.

  12. The guys making these flags are good guys a don't think anyone should be debating that or generalising them either. However, there is an element of people who hang around close to them and like to pretend they are something that they are not aswell, and sometimes can give them a bad name.

That aside, the flag was a bit...'daft' really. I'm sure it was ment with the best intentions and all that jazz, and fair play for taking the time and money to make it but as Dee rightly said that the idea of it having terrorist connotations says, 'more about the people of the west of scotland than it does about the guys who made it' - a fair comment, however sadly we LIVE in the West of Scotland and wether the mindset is correct or not it is the one that we live within at the current time and one that we must think about when producing flags etc like this one because people will be very quick to pigeonhole it and for that reason, and the stigma that it would attatch it would probably a ...'daft' flag.

In saying that, makes fuck aw difference to me what people wave at football games really.......

  13. I am not going to bother with my tuppence worth on the rights or wrongs of what these people do in their job, their rate of pay or their job description.

What i will say,is that like it or not these people are away doing a job in a foreign land away from their loved ones.Yes they knew what they were signing up for,of course they did - but they did it,someone had to.

At the end of the day it is their job,and part of their job is the follow the wishes of those in charge, either in command of the army or the government. Since we as a people vite for that government, then their job is to follow OUR wishes as a general voting public.Perhaps if so many people were against the war they wouldn't all vote like sheep for the parties supporting war,but since they do - then they are ultimatly responsible for the legalities of the war, noone else.

And Malky79, your views on people 'following orders' are coming across as rather nieve, soldiers do follow orders without question, because it is their job - and they are trained and told to do so. I may not agree with everything that my boss says, but i go along with it because i have to respect their judgment. Since their job involves the task of firing bullets, then orders to kill or maim are orders they must follow, like it or not. If not they cannot just up sticks and walk out like me and you.

Another thing you might find is that right now, with the hopless state of our economy a lot more people are joining the army not because of a real will or want, but because it's possibly the only fucking job that they can get right now.....that's the real shame of our society.

Instead of getting all worked up over a PRIVATE company letting people in for free why not concern ourselves with some greater issues in society.

If john boyle decides to hand out thirty season tickets to guys he knows down the local boozer then that is his choice,at the end of the day it is HIS money at the end of the day and he can let in whoever the hell he likes for free. Some people on here are greeting as if it was money our their own pocket.

  14. What a load of patronising bullshit.

Crap Celtic SHOULD be pumping Motherwell everytime they play them (on paper) - anyone who doesn't see that is fucking diluded. Cweltic have a team of players earning big bucks with the best facilities for training blah blah ETC.

Motherwell have a bunch of young guys on wages of about 250-400 per week training at a fucking rugby park most of the time........doesn't take much to gather the idea from there, and the fact the bookies will always make celtic favourites home and away is thus further proof.

No naw,it's no patronising,it's the truth....what's patronising is that a couple of good results at the start of a season and a lot of motherwell fans think they are worlds beaters.

  15. 'with the likes of Motherwell'

That should be taken as a huge compliment to be honest. It's a true point because Celtic SHOULD be beating the 'likes of Motherwell' - on paper they have players that are supposedly of far superiour quality 'earning' higher wages and transfer fees.

In that case then of course Celtic should look towards Motherwell with arrogance and state that they should be beating such teams.

The fact they can't, and were matched by a team of 'lesser quality' should be taken as a compliment by Motherwell etc rather than a slap on the face.

I mean remember he is talking to his own fans in the interviews aswell noone else, it would hardly be profitable for him to say, " eh aye we were matched in every way against motherwell and eh...they are a good team" and expect his own fans to like it.

  16. Yes third place is deffinately there for the taking this season, there is no doubting that.

However, i also think we should calm it a wee bit. It's still early doors with a young squad, a couple of injuries here or there or a few not to good results could drop the confidence and take the wind out of our sails.

Things are looking promising right now, there is no doubt about that but let's just stay focused on our main objective this season,to rebuild the squad and keep ourself in the division.

I don't think for a minute now that relegation is on the cards, but as said - this team is still unproven and havn't been in and real situations yet where they have had to fight and scrap their way through. I hope we go through the season the way we have started, but theres a lot of milage to go yet and theres a lot more experienced teams in the division to take 3rd place.

In saying that the original point is very true, yes - third place is their for the taking, and the way the old firm are playing - so also is first and second B-)

  17. Very very sad news she was a great person and one i got on with well when i worked with her.terrible shame.

And only a short period after another former employee(though absent through illness for a long time) Cathy sadly passed away.

  18. Start of the game they said it was pissing!

It was hammering it down earlier mate and most of last night so a wonder how soggy it was under foot today.

Theres also more wind here today than your hometown is famous for - blawin a gale as ma granny would say.

  19. Oooft. 3 points, thank God. Seemed like a dreadful game. Wonder if the pitch held up in the rain?

Whit rain the sun is splitting the sky here the now - and im no kidding.

Weather in this countrys all over the place.

  20. Quite a few times in this thread the saying ' he knows nothing about football' has bropped up when refering to Billy Dodds.

Can i just remind these people that the guy played and scored goals in every competition Scotland has to offer aswell as playing internationally and in europe with rangers. He has won countless league and cup medals in his career and probably made a barrel load of money doing so - not a bad amount anyway for a 'fairly good' wee player.

Can i ask how many of those who think he 'knows nothing about football' have done the same? That's right, none of you. When you have, come back and start mouthing about he knows 'nothing about football' i keep forgetting punters are the font of all footballing knowledge these days when realistically we know very little about the in's and out's of the professional game.

Also, predicting Motherwell to draw is hardly surprising - we don't score many goals and we don't concede many either. In that logic - draw seems a fairly decent prediction.

    :D

  21. ^At the end of the day it is not acceptable in society to call someone a 'b bastard', so it shouldn't somehow be acceptable when you walk through a turnstyle going to the football.

Those are the facts, sorry if you don't like them. Take it up with Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandella, Malcolm X and if you are, brave Tiger Woods.

I didn't at any point say that it WAS acceptable,at football or anything.

I just said that i wouldn't go greeting like a big jessie if they did, which they do.....probably every time i've been to a game.

So mayby read what i have been saying before coming out with statments totally off the cuff eh.
