  1.

That'll be why they haven't lost to a provincial club this season and the only team to beat them in a home league match in two years has been Celtic.

Without McDonald we are struggling against other strugglers, never mind Rangers.

I'm not disputing the fact that Rangers are a more talented team than ourselves. I am however arguing, unlike you it seems, that McGhee's tactics don't increase our chances of victory.

I'm not sure how you can sit through a game where for large parts there's a 40-50 yard gap from our midfield to strikers and we've got a rookie right back playing on left wing and argue otherwise tbh. There was clear tactical failings in that game from McGhee, to argue otherwise is to deny the obvious.

  2. Key aim for the season? I would say staying up. Do i think McGhee will keep us up? Yes, I do. So quite happy for him to stay. He won't be fired any way, so it's a non discussion really.

There are however some seriously worrying points. The players don't seem as fit as their rivals. This is a surprise given McGhee's 1st spell in charge.

He has signed some utter dross, we're getting near Baraclough levels of throwing enough shite at the wall and hoping some it sticks.

Let's see what shape we're in come the end of this window. There will come a time when it is best for us to part ways, now is not it.

  3. Key decision was the McDonald red card. Up till then we looked like we had a goal in us and were in the game. I didn't think it was a red but I'll be the first to admit it was on the far side and I didn't get a good look at it so I might be wrong.

After that we weren't ever likely to score a goal. McDonald is not only our best player but also is absolutely essential to bringing Moult, our second best player, into the game. So in essence we lost our two best players in one stroke.

After that Rangers were utter dominant and deserved their win. The people who think they are 'shite' need to simmer down. They are miles ahead of us and so are most of the city clubs.

I keep saying it but a lot of our support needs a big, big reality check. The standard of the league has gone up while the standard of our team has gone down. We are a bottom 6 club these days and screaming at the players or manager doesn't do anything to change that the clubs economics.

The key decision was the way McGhee approached the game. Even at 11-10 he sat back and then made plans to bring a right back on to replace a left back on left wing.

Yes. Sevco aren't as bad as some are making out. Equally though they're not as good as McGhee's tactics would have you believe.

  4. Big fan of Moult, absolutely love his passion. His celebration at the Accies game will live long in the memory.

However, at this stage in his career he's miles away from being a premier league striker imo. I'd be extremely surprised if he signed for Crystal Palace or any other premier league team. A middle to bottom championship team is his level atm I would say.

I'll be sad to see him go but it's the way the club needs to be run now. I would consider anything over 650k personally.

  5. Referee had a shocker. 2 stonewall and obvious red cards but he only awarded one. That had a huge influence on the course of the game.

Are you referring to the McDonald incident in the corner? Never a sending off imo. McDonald knew exactly what he was doing, the wiley old fox that he is.

If you're referring to something else then apologies. Can't think of another incident though.

  6. In a game devoid of any sort of quality,Skippy hassled, harried and held up the ball well as he could given the circumstances. A leaders effort.

Pass marks also to Campbell, who battled away and Tait, who lobbed in a few crosses.

However I thought Craig Clay was absolutely shocking 2nd half. McMillan didn't have a good game either but he's a young lad, so I'll leave it at that.

It was some bounce at the end. About 70mins in, the wind and raining was pishing down, the game was utter honking and I wondered why I even bother. Louis Moults beautiful heed is why I bother! Fitba eh

  7. Im not sure, however, do we really need a fan engagement manager?

Well the club obviously feel we do. We've been steadily losing fans for years, it's not sustainable the rate we're going.

If this appointment helps with initiatives to get some people back through the door, then I would say it's absolutely worthwhile, yes.

  8. Hateley was decent and fairly dependable but not the best right back in the world. Actually surprised so many people rate him - he got absolute pelters on here nearly every week!

Tait looks also decent to me so far. Solid enough right back.

Tbf I don't think getting pelters on here should be used as a yardstick to judge a player!

He was a decent player who gave us a couple of magic moments.

  9. I took against him cos he looked pish. Sole reason.

What a load of nonsense. Hateley was widely considered a good player for our club and would have easily walked into the Motherwell teams that followed his departure.

Not sure where you're coming from tbh.

  10. Nope, absolutely nothing stuck to him at all today, fair enough you don't expect him to win a majority of high balls, but his inability to pass the ball three yards is incredibly frustrating.

Cadden was head and shoulders above the rest today.

I did say this at the start of the season and was lambasted for it. His passing is quite often terrible. He obviously needs some help up there, so slightly unfair to judge but his good games are becoming more and more sparse unfortunately.

  11. Exactly my thoughts - the likes of Gauld Henderson McGinn are all a good bit ahead of cadden. The only midfielder that he could have a chance of displacing would be Craig slater but he has come through all the national age groups successfully which normally works in your favour (and he's a decent player as well)

Aye Craig Slater was the only one I looked at and thought, aye there's an argument for Cadden there. I plead ignorance however as I've no idea how Slater's time in England has went. I would hope the Scotland scouts had a better idea than me.

  12. Both good young players not playing much 1st team football never even looked at squad but surprised theirs only 3 old firm still think Cadden should be in there though

So you criticised the squad without even looking at it? Get a grip man.

Out of interest who would you take out to allow a spot for Cadden?

  13.

And we had our chance to promote a promising group of under-20's this close season and McGhee bottled it by offering contracts to geriatrics.

And you know what, some on this forum celebrated the geriatrics getting new contracts.

How's that working out for you?

Stick to the taxi's mate. Football management isn't for you.

  14.

Gary Mackay-Steven available so they say.

BTW Greg Stewart, who I think is a superior player to Johnson, went down south for £500,000.

Re Stewart; the thing in our favour is that Johnson has an extra year on his contract, that pushes up his value. Stewart's contract situation forced Dundee's hand. The chances of us getting a £1million for Johnson, as has been quoted in places, would be very slim I would think though.

  15. I heard he asked for 3k a week wages at Dundee! Further reports stated that he didnt get that, however, I am sure he is still costing them a fair bit.

How are you sure of that? You've basically confirmed you have no clue, like the rest of us.

  16. The thing is, he could well step up a level and progress the way Stewart has done at Dundee.

Equally he could be utter dug meat. There's risk attached to every signing. FWIW if we'd had the cash I'd have probably taken him. No chance of that happening now though.

  17. It seems like a bit of a must for the club financially but I think it would be a bit of a disaster for us on the field. He's been head and shoulders above everyone else at the start of the season.

Let's hope we hold out for good money.

  18.

You lost any credibility with that statement

"Marvin Johnson obviously stands out" Mark McGhee, Motherwell Manager, July, 2016. But naw I've lost all credibility by having the cheek to suggest that I think he's our best player. Sit down.
